Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. Well, I awoke, this morning, to find my blog here at blog dot com is working! This is great news for me, and for you My Dear Readers. Since my happy discovery I have been working to put together issues of all our favorite articles, for your reading pleasure. Now, to be honest, I must admit that I was rather enjoying having some down time while the blog was… missing.

.

I used the time to play some PC games that I never have time to play, when I am working on the blog seven days a week. You see, for most people there are enough hours in a day, to do both. I may just have to start pushing my writing to three to four days a week, and spending the rest of the time resting and/or playing games that I find relaxing. Thing is, I did have some time to enjoy riding around in a forest, killing some monsters, and making some beneficial trades. An enjoyable time was had by all.

.

Next, today is Wednesday and it is 1PM in the afternoon. I am going to make a good effort to write and publish an edition of ‘The Mars Report’ for this week. Once it cools down here, it is over 90 already outside and my air conditioner (the second one they have put in my room in two weeks) is not working! Taking all the pain medications that I consume makes me very sensitive to heat. Sensitive in that if the room I am in is over 73 degrees I become nauseas and dizzy. Often times I will pass out… I dislike the fact that I cannot seem to get a working A/C unit in my apartment. What I wouldn’t give to be able to go out and purchase one for myself and be done with the lazy staff.

.

OK, I am going to publish this update, and then back to working on either an issue of ‘The Mars Report’ or ‘Lost In Space’. Come back here, in about two to three hours, and see which I have published!

.

ENJOY!

.

Adieu!

.

Thank YOU!

.

.

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. This morning I awoke to the sound of my own coughing. This time it is much deeper, and the raspy quality is replaced with a rattling sound. Deep in my chest something is rattling like dried bones in a bag, and I am… well, kind of scared. For a moment, let me look on the bright side of things. Last week, for the very first time since my first bout with this respiratory infection, I managed to publish ten articles in seven days. My Dear Readers I want you to know, to completely understand, what you and your readership here at The Other Shoe  means to me.

.

My Dear Readers just prior to the first onset of my respiratory infection? The traffic at just the primary location of my blog was peaking at about 150 visitors per week. That is an average of twenty visitors per day, but some days (of course) saw more traffic. I understand… I accept the reality of blogging. I understand the fickle nature of traffic and the genuine need of people for new content. Whereas I do not mean to judge, really I am the same way. I am a ‘news junkie’ and I read three to four different source for news every single day. Not six months ago I would watch MSNBC non-stop from 7AM until 7PM six days a week.

.

I have broken my news addiction, and with it my (rather mellow) political partisanship. My Dear Readers until my doctors find out just exactly what is wrong with me. Why I cannot throw this respiratory infection, why I have low-grade fevers nightly or the chronic fatigue I experience. Until that time my ability to regularly provide the requisite level of content is greatly hampered. I met, and exceeded, my goal for content this past week. Yet, in the process I have caused my infection to return and started the cycle of illness yet again.

.

First, My Dear Readers I cannot put into words the excitement I felt writing Part One of ‘The Horror in Smithville’!  I just love a well-written and suspenseful horror story. Let me be crystal clear, I do not include works like the ‘Twilight’ series. From what I read, of these books, they were a mix between sugary sweet horror and soft-core teenage porn. My very first exposure to the genre, horror, was one common and familiar to my generation. ‘The Twilight Zone’, ‘The Outer Limits’ and (later) ‘Night Gallery’ were my introduction to the genre(s) of horror and suspense and science fiction. Written by; Rod Serling, Ray Bradbury, Gene Roddenberry, and even Isaac Asimov these works were literary gold and my first and most impressionable impressions of these genres. That and… a little known (and I have looked and could not find these books) series of books by Playboy. They were sold together and each book was devoted to one genre. I found them at a garage sale, when I was about 8. You cannot imagine the fast-talking, wheeling, and dealing I had to engage in order to get my mother’s permission to purchase the boxed set.

.

After these golden nuggets of horror and science fiction, both genres floundered for many years. George Lucas rejuvenated science fiction with ‘Star Wars’, while the horror genre was brought back to life by Stephen King’s brilliant abilities. Stephen King defined the horror genre for decades to come, and (believe it or not) caused me great hesitation writing and publishing in his genre. Last week I put my fears aside, embraced my nightmares and put pen to paper for my very first venture into the horror genre. I tread gently, into Mr. King’s territory, and have made the conscious decision to write for young adults, first.

.

Come to think of it, ‘The Horror in Smithville’ and ‘The Adventures of Princess Nadia’ are both written for the young adult – pre-teen audience. I do this, intentionally, for two reasons. The first of which is the most important. I do not feel as though there is enough well written and thoughtful science fiction and horror for young adults and pre-teens. I see a real need for more quality writing in both of these genres. Second, My Dear Readers I will be the very first to admit I need more experience… more education under my belt before I wade into the same waters occupied by greats like Stephen King.

.

I would like to think that someday I might be able to create imagery, bring to life endearing characters, share memorable settings, and spin tales that weave all these elements together into a work of art. I know my ultimate goal, I can feel my limitations and I see the path clearly in front of me. Then there is my physical condition, my degenerative disease state and the unknown disease/condition that plagues me, today. All too familiar, am I , with how quickly I burn through my stamina. That is just what happened last week, rather over the weekend and today as a direct result of my workload last week.

.

My Dear Readers I longed to present you all with a full week of content. My desire to reestablish the traffic I had worked my fingers to the bone to achieve. You see, I do not fear the work… the workload. Honestly, I do not fear the pain that comes as a direct result of working (sitting behind a keyboard every day for hours at a time). I do not fear the resulting illness or pain and suffering. I do not fear most likely due to the fact of this reality for now, going on, the better part of a decade. It is the resulting pain, suffering, fevers, and (most of all) the raspy to bone rattling sounds in my lungs.  It is not fear that stops me, it is the disabling; pain, popping and snapping in my  neck, the fevers, the flu-like aches and pains, the shooting pains into my hands, fingers, arms, shoulders, neck face and chest.

.

This morning, as I awoke to a fever rattling in my lungs and numbness in my left arm and hand, I turned my head to look at the clock and a tooth grating and deafening pop/snap in my neck echoes in my ears. All I wanted to do was to get up, take my medications, read some news, start up my computer, get behind the keyboard, and weave tales for you, My Dear Readers, to enjoy. It was not meant to be.

.

It is now 5:30PM and I am just now finishing up writing this update/communiqué to you, My Dear Readers. I did not want to just leave you all (after ten articles in seven days) with silence from me. However, I am an thinking clearly and even my most simple and rudimentary writing skills escape me. I pus too hard, and for too long, and then I am incapable to get back up get behind the keyboard and spin the tales I so love to tell.

.

I apologize for pushing so hard that it has damaged my health and find myself quite incapable of completing the work. MY Dear readers it is my intention and desire to present to you, as this week progresses; Part Two of ‘The Horror in Smithville’, a new edition of ‘The Mars Report’, an update on ‘Bridgegate’ in New Jersey and more and more engaging articles and stories. For the rest of today, I will rest. Tomorrow I will work to get my much needed appointments confirmed and scheduled. Just as soon as I am able, I plan of working as hard as I can to write and publish the works outlined above. Regardless of pain. Regardless of fevers. Regardless of aches and raspy-rattling coughs. I promise to do my best to provide the content you, My Dear Readers, desire and that I have inside my head… just waiting to be put down into words.

.

Today, I wanted to share my dilemma, and hopefully engage your understanding. Yes, I also would like to illicit support and loyalty. However, I know that these must be earned. For four years I have worked to earn your support and loyalty. Oh, FYI this week I will publish the 390th article at my primary blog location. As well, in just twelve days we will be celebrating my Fourth Anniversary here at The Other Shoe! Hopefully that will coincide with the publication of my 400th article! By March 22nd, 2014 we WILL be celebrating 400 articles and FOUR YEARS here at The Other Shoe!

.

ENJOY!

.

As always I am deeply honored that you come here and read my work.

.

Thank YOU!

Boycott Target

.

[caption id="attachment_1814" align="aligncenter" width="630"]Boycott Target Boycott Target\[/caption]

.

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe and a very special… and very personal article. From the very beginning I am going to beg your patience and indulgence My Dear Readers. As I have never, in my life, engaged in the type of activity I’m embarking on tonight. Tonight I am going to share this single most terrifying incident in my entire life. An incident that forever changed my life and the major reason I find myself in a wheelchair today.

.

The date; August 25, 1987. The place; Target stores electronics lock up in Manhattan Beach California. I was nearing the end of my shift working in electronics for Target in Manhattan Beach California on Pacific Coast Highway. I was in the lockup storeroom they used for electronics. I was in the process of doing a visual inventory, minding my own business and doing my job, when my life was turned completely upside down.

.

Everything I am about to tell you, My Dear Readers, I have pieced together from information given to me after the fact, and my own memories. I was not alone in the electronics lock up on that day. There was another girl… She was on the top of a very tall ladder at the other side of the room. She was moving stock around at the very top of the steel racks that contained merchandise. To this day I fear that she, unintentionally, put the events in the action that resulted in my injury.

.

As I said, I was doing a visual inventory of a stack of oddly assorted merchandise. Everything in this lockup, except what was in front of me, was on steel racks. However the pile of merchandise in front of me… was not on any kind of supports whatsoever. In the stack there were; boxes of photo albums, boxes containing video games, boxes containing pretty much every other odd and end you might find in the electronics department from calculators to cameras to… A single electric Smith Corona typewriter.

.

Aye. there’s the rub… the electric Smith Corona typewriter (for some stupid reason) was on the very top and a 15 foot stack of miss-stocked items. At that moment I had no idea how that typewriter got all the way to the top of an unevenly stacked and precariously held together 15 foot pile of electronics. However, in a matter of moments that typewriter would change my life in ways that I would not fully understand till 26 years later, today. The other employee and I were not talking. As I remember, I did not know this employee very well. I recognized her from the store I had seen her around before, but we had never talked are engaged each other socially. Odd, this person and I did not know each other but in a matter of moments her being in that room would set about a chain of events that ended up putting me in a wheelchair today.

.

She was looking for something, on the very top rack of the steel that she was working on at the entrance of the electronics lock up. She was very busy shifting boxes around and moving things back and forth. All I know is; the next thing I knew was I saw her left hand push something… then a box… it fell over. Then as I looked up… she shouted  “watch out!”. The next thing I know I see this typewriter falling from the top of the stack towards my head. My Dear Readers looking back on this today I wonder… I think to myself. Why didn’t I jump to the left of the right? Why didn’t I fall to the ground and curl up into a ball? Why didn’t I put my hands over my head and go into a fetal position? The fact of the matter is, I did none of those things. All I did was lean forward and try and move my body to the left as this 30 pound steel electric typewriter fell 15 feet towards my head.

.

I remember the typewriter striking the back of my head and my neck, that is the last thing I remember. The next thing I remember is waking up and somehow magically a room that only had myself another coworker in… it was full of people including the store manager. I remember feeling extremely hot. I remember I was in terrific pain. I remember that I couldn’t feel are hardly move my right arm or leg.  I remember I had difficulty speaking. The rest is history. I was immediately taken to Centinela hospital in Los Angeles, where I spent two months. Then I was transferred to an Institute for head injured adults in Long Beach.

.

Just two weeks ago, while shopping ironically in a Target store here in West minister, I found out that that day… This, single worst day in my entire life... that… that day and my injury had been turned into a training video by Target for its employees. My Dear Readers it pains me to tell you that not once was I ever contacted by Target prior to them making this video. Target did not notify me that they were going to make a video about the worst in my life. Target did not ask for my input or permission to take any event in my life that is left me in a wheelchair and turn it into a video. And worst of all My Dear Readers Target has not offered me one red cent for capitalizing on this tragic accident.

.

That is why I am asking you… All of you to please consider, this holiday season, boycotting Target. I strongly feel that Target stores should be boycotted because they have taken the most terrible day in my entire life and turned it into a training video… Turn it into a way for them to make money. I apologize, I know that this is asking a lot, but I am asking you from the very depths of my soul to please boycott Target.

.

Boycott Target; until they contact me and offer me recompense for turning the worst day of my life into a training video. Boycott Target; for callously disregarding how it might make the victim of their negligence feel for them to turn the worst day of my life into a way to protect themselves from workman compensation claims. Boycott Target; because any company who would take a life-altering event and turn it into some flipping training video is not a company that deserves your money.

.

Quite honestly, My Dear Readers, I firmly believe that Target should have first contacted me about making a video of the worst day in my life. Quite honestly I think that Target should’ve asked my permission before making about a video about the worst day in my life. And finally, I think Target should be paying me for all the years they have used the single most painful and life-changing day in my life to protect themselves from other lawsuits.

.

My Dear Readers below is a video of me asking for everyone’s support. I would like to ask you to; share this video, share this article, share it through YouTube, share it through email, share it to family, share it to friends, share it to coworkers, share it to everybody that you can. Please help me get this article, this video, and my plight out to every person we possibly can because Target does not deserve all the holiday business. Please, help me and

Boycott Target!

A Very Special Thank You

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. It is very late at night, or very early in the morning. Either way, Once again, I am learning that it is a ‘bad idea’ to eat onion rings at midnight right before going to bed. So, as the onion rings are burning holes in the lining of my stomach, I figured that I would get a head start on Saturday’s publications. Yesterday I filmed a short “Thank you!” video here in my new apartment. I was going to write this introduction later today, but writing it now seems the best use of my time.

.

This week was quite busy. I was out each and every day; running errands, going shopping and getting some much needed sun and fresh air. While I was out I came to the realization that the neighborhood that I now call home is much better than Cypress. In Cypress I was forced (by the nature of my location) to shop at one of the most expensive supermarket grocery store chains, here in Southern California, Albertson’s. Now, I have two Target stores (with groceries) within power chair distance (within a half mile).

.

One is located in the Westminster Mall, a very nice indoor mall with; Spencer’s Gifts, J.C. Penny, Hot Topic, Macy’s, Cinnabon and the afore mentioned Target. It is a two-story mall with fifty or more different shops and a large food court. If I am not ‘up’ to going to the mall, there is another Target the other direction in a medium sized strip mall with; a Pavilions, Jamba Juice, Einstein Bagels, Howard’s, Marie Calendars and about twenty other shops. You can go more casual without feeling like you accidentally went to church in your pajamas.

.

Then there is Bella Terra. It is a series of strip malls connected with an upscale apartment complex. This is the mini-mall where Allen got his job at Kohl’s. The 405 freeway is half a block south from my building, and that will be very convenient, once I get a car or van. There is just no end of places to go and shop, or just window shop. I also have, for the first time in ten years (and the very first time since I bought my power chair) a ground floor apartment! In just the past month, I have used my power chair more than in the pervious year.

.

This has, all, put me in a much better personal space. Having said, I felt compelled to express my gratitude to everyone that hs helped to make my new home a reality. Hence, the video below. I hope that you enjoy watching the video as much as I enjoyed making it for you. Please, take a moment to watch and accept my deep and heartfelt “Thank YOU!”

.

As always, I am honored that you come here and read my work.

Weekend Update October 26th, 2013 And A Tour!

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. I opened one of the final boxes to unpack, today, and found what I thought to be a lost 1080p video camera. I had used this camera for lots of videos during the last Indiegogo campaign. I had feared that the camera was lost forever. Overwhelmed with joy, I was, upon finding it today.

.

Since I was so happy to find this, better, camera I decided to make a video. One, to make sure that it had really survived the move and to show off my new apartment. I am very thankful to everyone that contributed to my most recent Indiegogo campaign to raise the funds to move. I wanted to show you, My Dear Readers, and everyone that contributed, the great apartment that I found and acquired with the funds you so generously gave me.

.

Later today I am hoping that Alexander shows his little fury face so that I can get a new video of him, too. I am waiting for all my auctions to end at eBay, Once they have I will start the process of generating new auctions and sales at Amazon. I am genuinely hoping that I can garner better bids and more money.

.

I am still panicked about the financial situation I find myself facing. However, it does no good to focus on the fall, just makes one fear the landing, more. I hope that I can sell some of the items, at Amazon. Until then, I will just eat Ramen noodles three meals a day and get by the best that I can. Allen had another second interview, yesterday. I am hopeful. He is out most every day putting in applications, and it is just a matter of time before he gets a job.

.

Again, thank you to everyone that gave and made this new home possible.

.

As always, I am hono9red that you come here and read my work.

.

Thank you!

Moving The Other Shoe Store to Amazon, Soon.

Welcome back My Dear Readers, to The Other Shoe. Last night I wrote about how I am hoping to make changes with The Other Shoe, by expanding my blog to its own URL location. In the spirit of change I am here to announce another change, coming soon. As you all know, about two weeks ago I entered into an adventure at eBay. The heartless and soulless theft of $300 of my charitable donations, by one Lawrence Hierlmeier of Anaheim, I am facing a huge hole in my finances for the next several months.

.

In an effort to replace said funds, I sought to sell some electronics. I have been buying electronics parts and peripherals from eBay since 2007. Now, I though I might turn the tables and make some money. Easier said than done, I tell you what My Dear Readers. Before I ventured into this unknown territory I; read the FAQs at eBay, read several articles on the web about ‘How to sell on eBay’, and followed all the directions as I listed my items. I did everything according to the advice and directions I received.

.

Now, with two weeks into this venture I have; One item that was bid on seven times only to have the highest bidder withdraw his bid because “I was confused when I place the bid…” and now I am going through all the previous bids with ‘Second Chances’. And, One item (with a value of $45) being sold for 99 cents! IMHO eBay is the 99 cent store of the internet.

.

[caption id="attachment_1757" align="aligncenter" width="225"]MC760 USB Data Card for $.99 at eBay MC760 USB Data Card for $.99 at eBay[/caption]

.

The majority of people using eBay are chronic users that, pretty much, sit in their mother (or grandmother)’s basement looking for any item for 99 cents, purchasing it and turning it around for a profit. There really are no individuals left on eBay that are regular normal folks… it has been taken over by chronic eBayers. That is all fine and good, and I have learned a valuable lesson with only a small loss of time and money.

.

As of today, I will be slowly removing all my items from eBay and setting them up over at Amazon.com where I will set myself up as an individual seller. In order to be a “Professional Seller’ I would need to pay $39.99 a month. That is a non-started with me, seeing as I am trying to make money and not spend money. As I have said, this is a great learning experience and I am not upset or angry about anything that has happened. (So far).

.

.

I am deeply disturbed that I do not have the $150 filling fee or the $40 service fee so that I can sue Lawrence Hierlmeier for the $300 the black hearted _____ stole from me. I am working as hard as I can to make sure I have; rent, my phone bill and food. Once I have that all paid for I am going to save my money so that I can take Lawrence Hierlmeier to court. I hope to win back my original $300 plus the filing fee, fee to have him served and I am going to ask for ‘pain and suffering’ and money to compensate me for all the extra work I have been forced to do, thanks to his greed and avarice.

.

I have enough proof, and I am quite good in court. I have little doubt that I will win, and think that I should come out of the court with just shy of $1,000.00. Then I will place a lean against his home and his car, and wait for him to pay me. It shouldn’t be a long wait. J

.

So, My Dear Readers, this week (and culminating by this weekend) I will be moving all of the items I have for sale from eBay and over to Amazon. I have a ‘good feeling’ about Amazon. I spent several hours, early this morning, looking over like merchandise at Amazon and I am pretty sure that I will be able to make some money with far less “I got confused” and 99 cent sales. See, I understand why eBay tells you that you will have a better chance of selling an item if you start the bidding at 99 cents. It builds traffic for eBay at the expense of sellers like me. No hard feelings, they have to hurt others to make money for their share holders. It is a soulless business, but I have no hard feelings for the blood sucking losers. (Meg Whitman made here millions making eBay the blood sucking company it is today. Only to loose $130 million of it running, and loosing, against Jerry Brown.)J

.

Well, My Dear Readers, that about sums up things for today. Oh, yes it is 5AM. I get up really early anymore. I help Allen get ready for work, then I check on my sales and do some writing. My pains reasserts itself about 6AM, and I go back to lying in pain in bed until later in the morning or afternoon. I am working as hard as I can to get as much work into each and every day that I possibly can.

.

Remember to stop by my listings at eBay, and soon Amazon.

.

As always, it is a great honor that you come here and read my work.

.

Thank you!

My 'eBay Advenutre' and an Update From Dan!

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. I am quite happy to announce I am living in a nice apartment with a full kitchen. Allen is at my side, working a work release program and taking care of me. Things are really tight. Honestly, if I had not been a victim of theft? Things would be much better for me. I am still sitting here trying to figure exactly what kind of person steals from disabled people?

.

I mean, seriously, it takes a special kind of sicko to steal money from a guy in a wheelchair flirting with homelessness. So, this week I am hoping to raise enough funds to file the lawsuit against… Larry. I have snet a certified letter requesting the return of my, illegally obtained¸ funds. I went to the OC Courts web site and filled out the paperwork to file suit. Now, I just need the $150 to file and have Larry served.

.

What a world we live in, eh?

.

I am almost unpacked, from moving. I still have three or four boxes of PC games to unpack… once I find a place to store them and a few boxes of family memorabilia. Photo albums, boxes of photographs and copies of awards and my high school diploma still need to find a home in my new home. Basically, I am getting settled. Well, sort of.

.

Hanging over everything do, and my ability to get in the right frame of mind to write, is the tremendous weight of ‘making ends meet’. Allen is not getting paid for the work he is doing and my quandary is that my social security just covers the rent. This leaves me sleepless most nights. It is difficult to find peace, to sleep or write, when the weight of your world hangs over your head 24/7. Everyday I wake u p and I think about putting my wireless keyboard in front of me, and beginning to write. Each and every morning, right after I have that overwhelming urge to express myself in the remaining fashion I have… I begin to worry. Worry about paying my phone bill. Worry about getting food. Worry about paying the rent, and worrying about all the financial strain I live under… each and every day.

.

Late last week I took action that I thought would lead to some resolution… to some relief from the crushing feels I experience. I placed a dozen, or so, items I own on eBay to sell. Now, My Dear Readers, I have never done this before. I am an eBay virgin. I have never done this before and know that I am, likely, not presenting the items the best I can… or in a way that drives traffic. I am doing my best.

.

I have decided to promote my eBay items, here at The Other Shoe. I simply cannot bring myself to run another Indiegogo campaign. I simply cannot keep up that frantic pace, and that level of writing, at this time. My Dear Readers, I miss ‘The Week In Review’ and ‘Sunday Funnies’ and I genuinely hope that I find… the personal space… the motivation… the end of the writer’s block that strangles my creativity. I deeply miss the routine of writing regular articles for my blog. I genuinely miss writing my thoughts and impressions of the news of the day, and week.

.

Loud, and turgent[1] (Rising into a tumour or a puffy state; tumid, Bombastic; turgid; pompous.), voices are guiding weakened minds to acts against the best interests of our nation and themselves. Honestly, America and Americans need what I have to say more now than anytime in the past three years.

.

I sincerely want to return to writing, on a regular basis. IT is just the weight of… my financial commitments… they task me. That is why I am turning to you, My Dear Readers, to look at my eBay sale items. See if there is anything that I have you might want to purchase. I know… I am ashamed… but I have to eat and pay rent. Here is the link to my eBay listings:

http://www.ebay.com/usr/enzomatrixlt

(or just click on the word eBay anywhere in this article)

Take a look and see if there is anything there you might… desire .I am working, as best I can, on some articles for later this week. I am hoping that some of this pressure is relived. I do not know how to ask for help, at this point in my life. I do not understand how and WHY someone could possibly steal from me. What kind of persons steals from a guy in a wheelchair?

.

Please, take a moment and look at my sale items. Barring that… I am listed on PlayPal as Daniel Hanning. Any kindness will be graciously accepted. I do not want to ask for further charity… That is why I started my listings at eBay.

.

My pain now clouds my judgment… and my thoughts. I hope to see you all, My Dear Readers, soon. I miss you all so very much… it hurts. Please know, that every day I think of you all. I hope to be back and writing, with regularity, soon. Take Care.

.

As always, I am honored that you come here and read my work.

Thank YOU!

October 1st 'Danny Update' and More...

Welcome back My Dear Readers, to The Other Shoe. I do not have that much to update. However, last night I did fall on debris on the steps going to the trash area. I was carrying a bag of trash and I slipped on some… debris from the demolition. I twisted my left leg, at the knee and banged my right knee and leg on the stone steps. With the difficulties I have with stairs, anyway. I guess it was just ‘a matter of time’ before this happened. See, this is the downside of being Danny.

.

.

Any other normal American would have, likely, called 911 and taken pictures of the stairs. I mean it was debris on the steps that caused me to fall. These workers have been negligent to downright disrespectful of the residents here, and the need to keep the work area clean and clear of debris. However, not Danny… oh, no… not Boy Scout Danny. I just got up off the stairs, cursed myself and went into the house for a good cry. There are multiple bruises on my right leg, and my left knee is about the size of a basketball.

.

.

I twisted on my left leg and my right leg banged on the stairs. I really try to be careful. However, with the people working here, they are just not eve careful. They should sweep up, every day, at the end of the day. They never do. So, here I am trying to pack everything I own, by myself, and now I have to go without food.. because I just cannot walk that far with my left knee all messed up.

.

(Bruising on my Right Leg From Fall)

.

I am not a litigious person, generally. I am going to make an exception this time. Tomorrow I am planning on packing all the rest of my belongings. I plan on leaving out my DVD player, and my TV. Also, I plan on leaving this computer out until Thursday night. As soon as I pack up this computer, I will have no way to post or communicate until I get moved and unpacked. I received a call form Allen, today.

.

He has received an answer to his ‘Early Release’ paperwork. He called to get; his phone number, the name and phone numbers of two personal references that he will not be living with and the phone number for his last job. That was the only number I could not get for him, when he called. He told me that he could be released as soon as tomorrow night. That would be Wednesday night. After I got off the phone, I immediately sat down and prayed. I prayed to thank God for Allen getting his paperwork back… and I asked… pleaded, that Allen get released before I am evicted.

.

I am having some difficulty finding a place to live. Every day I go to Craigslist and; repost my ad for ‘Housing Wanted’. Then I go to roommates and look at all the new listings. It is just shocking how much people want for; a living room, a bedroom that is 8x10… and I even saw one ad for “a sleeping place…” for $450 a month. I am looking for a place that will; accept Alexander and be open to me bringing my own bed and TV and furniture.

.

I am just amazed how many have “must have 9-5 schedule”... or “NO pets allowed”… or “Female only… college student only… must have regular schedule…” The majority of people just have so many hang ups. They do realize that they are trying to make, right? They have so many rules… so many unrealistic expectations that it makes every day an adventure in disappointment. However, for $1,000.00 I have found a very nice place available in Huntington Beach. They seem to be nice. Know that I am disabled, and I asked about Alexander and he responded “That shouldn’t be a problem…” I have to get back to them, tomorrow. I just have a problem handing over $1,000.00 prior to moving in… and with my theft from last week. “Once bitten, twice shy!”

.

I wrote my brother, Darrell, today. I explained that I have done my best to vet a 73 year old widower. I had talked several times via emails. Went to his house and met him in person. Had a nice hour long visit, and ‘Larry’ stole my $300 deposit. Darrell responded;

“You don't even make any sense. You give money to strangers and then wonder why you get screwed over.

I can't keep throwing money down a drain like that.

Figure it out for yourself.”

.

Now, let me be clear. This is how my email to Darrell started:

“Dear Darrell,

I need advice or maybe some guidance. I am not asking for money.”

.

I am not too sure how I could have been more clear. I stated that I did not want money, I just would have liked if my brother called Larry and asked him to return my money. See, the way I see it is… it is much more difficult for a “stranger” to sleep at night if they know the person they stole from has family that cares. So, I explained the situation to the best of my ability to Darrell and simply asked if he would pelase call this person and act like he gave a damn what happens to his little brother. I had no idea that would be a bridge too far. Nor did I forsee that even though I said I didn’t want money just some familial support… that we would just (on his own) go for the ‘Danny is begging for money again…’.

.

I knew that Darrell had already helped me out with money. I was completely embarrassed that the money he had generously given me, was taken by a 73 year old widower. It really did take a lot of courage to write the email and send it to Darrell. I mean… everyone is a stranger, right? If I am using craigslist, I am dealing with strangers. I am not sure just exactly how I am supposed to be renting or rooming with… friends. I mean I would much rather be rooming with a friend. I have even been offered to move in with a very good friend that I have known since 1995. However, he lives in Tennessee and I would loose; my doctor, my prescription drug coverage, and would have to leave all my belongings here in California.

.

(Nails Outside Door at Cypress Lodge October 1st, 2013)

.

That is why I am really hoping that Allen does get his early release. That would solve a lot of problems. With Allen’s help I could; get everything in a storage that was large enough. I have already found a larger storage for less money. Only $30 a month for the first two months. That way I could put what I have here in the room now in the room on Friday. Then the next weekend, or the one after that, call my friend Tony and have him and Allen take everything out of the first storage and put it in the new storage area. Once Allen and I find a roommate situation that we feel will last? We can take everything out of the storage and move in to a new place to live.

.

Right now… I am doing the best I can. I do not think; having people steal deposit money, having my brother call me stupid (repeatedly), and hurting myself just trying to get the work I have been left alone to do, done… is asking too much. I really did trust Larry. Honestly? I think it was all a scam. I honestly feel that Larry worked me and had every intention to steal from me from the get go. I had another very good, and old, friend tell me that his take was that Larry had this planned all along. That he intentionally picked a disabled person, intentionally was open and supportive just so he could take as much money as he could from me.

.

(More Garbage On Walkways At Cypress Lodge October 1st, 2013)

.

If that is the case, then it is a ‘Good Thing’ that I mailed the Certified Letter documenting the chronology of the theft, and how quickly he changed from supportive to thief. Allen has told me that he will help me file the lawsuit and make sure that I get to court in my power chair. I do not like to sue people. The neurosurgeon that did my operation… well, he took 4 ½ hours for a surgery that he scheduled for 3 hours. He told me that he would fuse C3-C4-C5 and instead he fused C3-C7. My next neurosurgeon told me that it was “the longest cervical fusion he had ever seen…” But, the first doctor was a “Stranger”… I was stupid to trust him, right?

.

Funny that, some people just have streaks of bad luck or misfortune… However, with Danny (according to his brother Darrell) it is not misfortune, it is just Danny being stupid… every single time.

.

Now, if Allen does not get his early release. I have a plan, too. I am going to get the larger storage, for only $30 for the first two months. I will put; my bed, TV, Firebird computer, DVDs, and all the furniture I have left into the new storage. Once I have a place to stay, and Allen does get out. I will have Allen and Tony help me combine the two storage area into the larger (cheaper) one. That will be the cheapest, labor wise, and I will not loose any of my belongings. I have located a cheap hotel, back in Stanton. Funny that, was the town Allen and I started out in when we moved to OC from Long Beach. Coming full circle.

.

That way I; have a place I can afford for Alexander and myself. Have all my belongings in storage (the first month is FREE at the smaller storage). The first one is FREE until October 27th. Either Allen will be out by that date, or I will have a definitive date of his release by the 27th. I was told that they can prorate my rent, if I tell them in advance of paying the first full month’s rent when I will be moving out. That means; FREE storage for the smaller unit until October 27th, $30 a month for the larger storage I will get for the 4th, and now all I have to do is find a place for Alex and I to live until Allen gets out.

.

That brings us to the end of today’s update. I hope that everyone realizes that I really am doing the best I can with what I have… and the situation that I have been… abandoned. I am not squandering any money. Heck, I haven’t eaten but one meal a day for the past two weeks. When I eat it is at night and most of the time it is one of those $1 Mother’s ____ Fettuccini Alfredo in the boxes, thingy. So, I have my food budget down to about $1 a day. I weighed 165 lbs. when I saw Dr. Gorlick last… I am betting that I am going to be about 160-150 when I see him November 5th, 2013. I can tell in the mirror, that I am loosing a lot of weight. I have never really had an appetite when I am under stress, or depressed. I haven’t been under this much stress… since I took my last (failing) property and turned it around in three months.

.

Just to toot my horn? I took a property with a 63% occupancy and a 40% resident retention and in just three moths? I raised rents, increased occupancy to 95% and resident retention to 100%. I was working from 8Am until 10 or 11PM every day for the first two months. I remember… I really liked property management… and I was quite good at it, too. While I was packing? I found a whole stack of my old Plaza Woods Newsletters! That was my first property to manage when I left pharmacy work. I wrote a monthly newsletter, collected rents, made deposits, kept the spreadsheet for all income and payouts and even did some light maintenance. I loved my work and was good at it, too.

.

Once I am settled and begin writing from my new home? I will scan some of the old newsletters and share them with you, My Dear Readers. You will be able to see what and how I wrote back in 1996-1999. Looking back, I really worked hard for Charlie Roy and Plaza Woods. I even designed the web site, and published and did all the photography. When I like something and put my mind to it, I can be very good.

.

That brings us to the end of today’s update. I hope that I have entertained… at least some.

.

As always, I am deeply honored that you come here and read my work.

.

Thank you!

Daniel Update September 30th, 2013

Welcome back My Dear Readers, to The Other Shoe. Today is Monday September 30th, 2013. I have injured my lower back I can hardly stand up. I slipped on rubble on the stairs, they NEVER clean up after Demoing here... I fell down the stairs and have injured my left knee. I cannot walk... I can hardly stand. My neck is throbbing with pain that shoots down both my arms into my hands. Saturday I placed a dozen or so boxes into storage. Since Saturday I have packed, my Firebird 802 gaming computer. I cried when I did pack that computer. I just have this horrible feeling that I will never see my favorite computer in my entire life.

.

Truthfully, I have been crying every single day, for the past two weeks. Only when I am alone… which it is fortunate that I am alone all the time. Larry… the 73 year old widower that STOLE $300 of my much needed, hard fought for, funds. I have called Larry. I have messaged ‘Larry’. ‘Larry’ refuses my calls, but sends me messages… calling me a liar…then asking (in the same message) “why don’t you move in?” . How terribly abusive can one human being, be? I mean if I move in is it day after day of him calling me names? Berating me and insulting me? That is not a roommate situation… that is an ABUSIVE situation.

. So, ‘Larry’ I refuse to move in and be your punching bag. Next, I have mailed the Certified Latter to ‘Larry’. This is the precursor to my LAWSUIT against ‘Larry’. Yes, I am filing a lawsuit in small claims court. I am asking for; my original $300, all expenses (including the certified latter, bus and cab fare, and caregiver expenses to file and pursue the law suit), pain and suffering caused by his abuse and refusal to give back my deposit and I will be asking the judge for treble damages, too. I will make this law suit as close as I can to the $5,000 limit to this level of justice.

.

I am in tremendous pain and suffering. I fear for my life and my safety. I have been continuing my search for a place to live. I have few leads… and I am fearful that I will be putting my belongings in storage to live, with Alex, on the streets of Orange County. I cannot get into a shelte4r… because I take medications… and that makes me a target for abusers. I will keep all my medications away from me… and any cash I may have at the time.

.

I had really hoped not to spend October homeless… and worked so hard. If only a greed and avarice soul had not sought to do harm to another American… just to float their sick boat of anger and animosity. ‘Larry’ best be glad that my friend Harley is not living here, now. I would have sent Harley over to get my money… and he would have come back with the money… all $300 and all 6’5” of Harley. J

.

I have to rest… some. If there is anyone out there.. reading.. that could help me. Please do!

Thank you… and it is an honor that you come to read my work.

A THEFT Before Homelessness...

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. It has been six days since I last published here at my blog. For the past six days I have spent my waking hours; packing, sorting, labeling and packing. My disability makes this work slow and quite painful. However, I persevere because I have received great news and I was thrilled to have a place to move to! [Note the past tense in that sentence]

.

Today I received a call from Mr. Gay (I will refer to Mr. Gay as Allen for the rest of the article, just as I address him in life). Allen called and explained that on the 25th he had his first hearing. The hearing started with the judge indicating that he wanted Allen to serve three years! This is what I thought… feared when I approached Mr. Lawrence Hierlmeier about rooming.

.

I met with Mr…. I will call him Larry for the rest of the article… I am typing this article, as I have not been able to afford to replace my headset microphone, yet. When I met Larry, for the first time, and talked about moving into his home. I explained that I was without my caregiver. I explained that Allen had broken the law and that I did not expect him out for six months to a year. Larry said

.

“I understand, we all make mistakes…”

.

I indicated that when Allen was out of jail that I would coordinate, to the best of my ability, moving out when Allen was released. Larry said;

.

”Don’t jump the gun… we will be able to work something out…”

.

Larry was; kind, open, sharing and admitted that he had taken a liking to me. I was under the impression that Larry; understood my disability, found me truthful and said (while driving me home at the end of the interview)

.

“Don’t worry, Daniel, I everything is going to work out… we will all meld together… like family… “

.

I had a very good feeling about Larry, I had a very good feeling about living in the room he showed me. I express no hesitation when he asked about leaving a deposit, at the end of the interview. I handed Larry $300 CASH and went up to the room to make some measurements. Below is the receipt that Larry gave me, when I returned downstairs. I handed Larry his tape measure and took the receipt. I then indicated that I would call an OCTA ‘Same-Day Taxi’ and wait out front to be picked up.

.

That is when Larry offered to give me a ride home, and I accepted. That was September 23rd, 2013 (as indicated on the receipt below). Oh, I failed to mention. Larry told me that his grandson, he had raised the daughter and son of one of his daughters when she was killed by “a drunk driver´ and “the father just left the children with me…”. He informed me that his grandson was going to school for game design. I was excited by this sharing because I am an avid gamer and spent years writing reviews of PC games (here and at another web site ‘All-Out Gamers’).

.

I was quite happy thinking that I would be rooming with a person studying game design. As Larry told me, on the drive home;

.

“… we are going to be a good fit…”

.

That is why the events of today have me; upset, confused, injured and scared. At 9:50AM Pacific time, today, Allen called me from jail. I knew that the 25th was a court date… I was scared because he did not call me last night. However, Allen sounded… upbeat, and I soon found out why. Allen explained that he went into the court, waited six hours to have his case heard. Once his case has before the judge, the initial ruling was for Allen to spend THREE YEARS in jail… to be sent “up-state” to the long-term facility and that the judge had no desire to show any lenience. It was at this time that the Public Defender and the Assistant District Attorney brought my letter to the judge’s attention.

.

They made it clear, to the judge that the letter had been sent to them, and the Governor’s Office via Register/Return receipt mail. After some discussion, and to the chagrin of the judge, Allen received twenty-four DAYS, three years formal probation, and required to make an $800 donation to witness protection. My letter helped. I am sure… certain, that it was not just my letter… my words that swayed the court’s decision. As the public defender told Allen:

.

“You don’t belong here… you don’t belong in jail. I can tell just talking to you… that you do not belong.”

.

I do hope that in any way… any small way that my words and what I had to say about Allen; how he keeps me alive, how he has deep ties to the community, and that he is a kind and gentle person gave the court pause. I also think that the past two weeks to daily… nearly hourly prayer played a role. I was overjoyed that Allen will be out of jail in time for my next doctor’s appointment. I am overjoyed to have Allen back so soon!

.

As soon as I got off the phone with Allen, I began to think of the impact this knowledge would have on my living situation. Larry knew that Allen was my caregiver. Larry knew that, when Allen was released, I would want to live with him again. Larry KNEW that Allen and I had been living together for TWENTY-FIVE YEARS! I hid NOTHING from Larry about Allen and my desire to live with him just as soon as he got out of jail. That is why… what happened, next…. floored me!

.

I took me some time to get my thoughts together. As well, I was coordinating the people to help me move my belongings into storage, find a ‘self storage’ facility close to my new home and take a bath. Once I had picked a storage facility, and made a reservation. Met with Matt, one of the people I wanted to have help me move. I called Larry at 4:16PM.

.

Larry was out for a walk with his dog. I, briefly, explained that Allen would be out of jail by the 21st. I told Larry that I wanted to discuss the impact this would have on our room mating together. I even explained that if he was not comfortable with Allen living there I would find another place to live. Larry said:

.

“Don’t jump the gun,. Daniel. You know I do have another spare room… I want to work with this… I am sure that we can work things out… DO NOT WORRY!”

.

That was @ 4:16PM pacific time (today) September 26th, 2013. The very same day that I found out, and only three days since I gave Larry a $300 deposit. FYI Larry asked about the deposit, and I offered the $300 without hesitation. BIG MISTAKE on MY part!

.

At 4:50PM Larry called my number, I was unavailable and he left a very terse message. I called Larry back at 5:41 PM. It was at this time a extremely angry Larry answered and began to loudly browbeat me. Larry came directly to the point;

.

“You are not getting back the $300 deposit. You acted hastily and you have harmed both of us. You made an agreement, which you can no longer complete, and I do not feel that you deserve to get any of the deposit back…”

.

I said:

.

“Larry that $300 is ONE THIRD of all the money I get in one month! I apologize… I told you that I can move in… without Allen…”

.

(Larry) “No, you cannot complete the agreement, I will not allow you to… you cannot and I feel you do not deserve any of the $300.”

.

I am speechless, literally. I stand there, with my heart stopped in my chest. In one angry and antagonistic move Larry has; left me with only DAYS to find someplace to live and taken $300 away form me… when I need it the most! I plead with him:

.

“Larry I do not know what I have done to anger you… to upset you… to invoke your ire! PLEASE do not do this to me. I was prepared to give you $100 of the deposit for ‘days of rental lost’.”

.

(Larry) “That is not enough, you entered into an agreement that you can no longer keep and I am keeping the $300. There is nothing more to be said… “

.

I say what I think anyone would say to a thief;

.

“I am sorry but I am afraid that I am forced to call the Anaheim police and report…”

.

I am cut off by a, now, screaming Larry;

.

“What did you call it… my (sarcastically slurred) ire? Well you have raised my ire. You are not getting back one cent.”

And Larry hangs up on me.

.

I am standing in the parking lot… shaking. In just a matter of seconds I have; lost $300 of the money people gave me out of the kindness of their hearts and… I am without a place to live… with only a week or less to find another place. Never in my entire life have I ever been so completely harmed and offended by any human being. Larry knew of my disability and limited financial means. I was willing to pay RENT for the three days he held the room for me.

.

I called the Anaheim police. They said it was a civil matter and that I had to take it to court. I am without a home… out $300 and I am supposed to take the time to file suit? My Dear Readers I am not writing this to ask for anything. I am writing because… other than finishing packing… looking as best as I can for five days… I do not know what to do.

.

Larry contacted me on Craigslist. I have a sneaking suspicion that Larry may well be one of those that uses craigslist to prey on others. I was; used, taken advantage of… boned. What strikes me most odd? Until today, at 4:51 & 5:41 Larry was; understanding even supportive. Then, like a light switch Larry turned ugly, offensive and brutally hurtful and thieving. He yelled at me. He insulted me… called me “Stupid” and too impulsive…”

.

[caption id="attachment_1682" align="aligncenter" width="630"]Larry's Ticket To Theft Larry's Ticket To Theft[/caption]

.

It was as though he was not satisfied with just stealing from me…. He had to hurt me in the process. I have never in my life witnessed a more drastic, ‘Dr. Jekyll, and Mr. Hyde’ switch in a person, ever. I have no place to turn and now $300 less than I had just three days ago and nothing to show for it. Below is the receipt that Larry gave me. I am going to make a short video, tonight…

.

.

As always, My Dear Readers, I am honored that you come here and read my words… my work. I apologize that tonight was not an entertaining article. I hope… that soon… I can bring you more of what you enjoy… and less of… this.

.

Thank YOU!

P.S. First, I WILL include a copy of the receipt later tonight. It is scanning and taking forever... I apoligize. I just REALLY wanted to get this published. Thank you.

Daniel Update and More September 20th, 2013

Welcome back My Dear Readers, to The Other Shoe. Just a little update and touching base… with my base. J I awoke this morning coughing and running a fever. The cough is deep in my chest and quite raspy. My temperature was 100.2 degrees… so, stress and poor diet have conspired and I must have the flu. I knew that I shouldn’t wait till October 22nd to get my flu shot. October 22nd is my next appointment with Dr. Gorlick.

.

Unfortunately I will not have a place to live when that date arrives. At least, right now it does not appear that I will have a place to live. I find myself in a bit of a quandary. Whereas I have used little of the funds I have raised. The amount I have left is not enough for storage and a place to live. My possessions need to be safe. I have found a place that is close by and the rental is $100 a month. I plan on putting most of my possessions in storage next Friday.

.

I will pay for two or three months. That should leave me with $400 - $500 left. I have a doctor’s appointment, so I am going to need a place to clean up, charge my power chair, and an address to be picked up. I am thinking I will stay on the streets until October 21st. That afternoon I will get a room for two days, a ground floor room. There is a hotel across the street from where I live. That way I can get my power chair out of storage, clothes, take a bathe and have them pick me up. Go see the doctor. Come back and spend another night in a bed, prior to rerunning the power chair to storage and heading back to the streets.

.

I simply cannot miss my doctor’s appointment. I desperately need my medications. See, the way I see it Mr. Gay should be out and able to help me, again, by the end of October. That is, if he is not released on the 27th of this month. I have written, and sent  via ‘Registered’ mail letters to; Orange County District Attorney’s Office, Orange County Public Defender’s Office and The Office of the Governor explaining the circumstances Mr. Gay faced at the time of his arrest. I explained the impact his continued incarceration will have on my health, too.

.

If you would like to help me help Mr. Gay? PLEASE CALL:   Mr. Glen A. Gay Booking #2785848 TO

HEAD OF COURT:

Martin Schwarz, Assistant Public Defender

.

I know… you don’t have to tell me. It is just that I cannot afford an attorney for Mr. Gay. Hell, I will be doing well to; get my belongings in storage, file to halt or retard the Unlawful Detainer and feed myself for the next three weeks. My Dear Readers, I am spending the monies I received form you very sparingly. No splurging on pizza or eating out in fast food places. I take all my meals at home. I generally eat tuna or hot dogs and sometimes some beans. That is IT!

.

I will admit, I have been forced to pay a friend, on three occasions, for his time and efforts helping me to get food and medications home. I am frugal with the monies I have been blessed. However, I cannot afford… nor can I really physically accomplish getting out and looking for another place to live. I need help. I am afraid that this weekend I will be calling a family member… maybe, and a friend asking if they can come out here and help me find a place to live… if I get the courage.

.

I do NOT want to interrupt anyone’s life. However, I am just incapable of doing anything beyond getting my belongings into a storage facility… by myself.  I put that in the letters I wrote, too. If Mr. Gay were here, I could get everything moved and myself. Without his assistance, I am greatly hampered.

.

So, the plan is that on September 27th, 2013 I will have help putting most everything I own into a storage facility here in the city of Cypress. I will pay several months, in advance. I will pay for a post office box… then I will take my little friend Alexander and I will head out to see where I can… live. Shelters are mostly out of the question. First, I am on two pain medications and oral and a transdermal patch. The patch that I wear? Saw a television show about ‘addicts’. Well, evidently that patch I wear to live in intractable pain? Some addicts use for injection and are worth… well, more that I will put in print.

.

Needless to say, my patches are worth more than my life. Second, Alexander. I cannot find a place for him, and I refuse to make him suffer any more than need be. He is scared, already. I want… need to have him with me. I am without Allen… without a roof over my head… please I just need to keep someone I love nearby. That is not too much to ask, is it? I have figured out how to construct a temporary cage that will fit into the grocery cart I have purchased. I refuse to get harassed or arrested for using a grocery store cart.

.

Cypress police just love harassing the homeless already; I plan on giving them no reason to bother me. When I need to shop, or go into some place. I will drop Alex off at the storage facility and put him in his cage, for a few hours. During my doctor’s appointment I will leave him in his cage in the room I rent for a few days.

.

I am praying that Mr. Gay gets out ROR. If not, I plan on staying here in Cypress the best I can until he gets out. Once out, I hope that he and I can find a place to live and continue or lives, together.

.

I am not really sure just how often I am going to be able to write, here. I will take videos, frequently at first, of my life on the streets. You can follow my videos at my YouTube channel. (Just click that link and it will take you to my channel… home of 115 videos). When I am able I will post articles, and post article with the videos. Honestly, I do not think I am going to feel like communicating… once I am homeless.

.

Crazy, huh? I am talking so calmly about being a statistic… homeless. No use crying… no use getting mad… Did I tell you? Mr. Gay was out the Friday he made his indiscretion going to the Unemployment office. See, he had not received a check in more than ten days and we could not get through to the office on the phone. There is a reason why here: Upgrade to California's unemployment system causes problems for thousands’ [1] TWENTY THOUSAND people were without checks for over two weeks. (Late adddition it was FIFTY THOUSAND[2]Californians without their Unemploymnet... 75% of which WORK!)

.

Not an excuse… “Just the facts, Ma’am.” Joe Friday – Dragnet.

Thing of it is? Without that snafu Mr. Gay would never been out that day. Right now? I WOULD HAVE HIM HELPING AND $500 MORE TO HELP ME!

.

That is a FACT. Anyways, anyone that might want to help me? Contact me via Facebook or this blog. I do need help. I cannot walk, far, without assistance. I do not have a place to live. Any kind of help will be greatly appreciated. I am not a criminal… I did nothing wrong… yet… my life is going to be horribly damaged, too.

.

As always, I am deeply honored that you come here and read my works… my words.

.

Thank YOU!

A Plea For Sanity And Compassion

Welcome back, My Dear Readers, to The Other Shoe. I have received some high praise for my recent article ‘The American Civil War of 201_’. I am extremely faltered by this praise, as that it comes from a fellow author with whom I have great respect. I understand that I need work on my grammar. If my life stabilizes I full intend to go back to college and taking courses on creative writing and English. I do not want to offend you, My Dear Readers, with poor grammar or spelling. I use ‘Word’ to write all my articles, but I know that I still make amateur mistakes. I appreciate your understanding and tolerance.

.

Having said, I would like to offer one bit of defense for my writing. Several times in my life of writing I have been told, mostly by women with whom I was intimate, that they can hear my voice when they read my work. I just couldn’t ask for higher praise. I am proud of my voice and the way I express myself. If I can manage to improve my grammar, and still keep the style? I would be a very happy author.

.

I have not written about my caregiver/BFF Mr. Gay today. I have not spoken of my dilemma, either. That does not mean I have not been working, or hurting. Quite the contrary is the case. I am still quite terrified by my impending… situation. However, I have not been idle. Below is the text of a letter I have constructed for; Governor Jerry Brown and The Public Defenders Office of Orange County. What I wouldn’t give for the resources to hire a good attorney for Mr. Gay. What I wouldn’t give to have the financial resources to post bail. I would give my very soul for his release. I feel a deep and heavy guilt for his situation.

.

Everyone’s actions are their own. “Poor judgment should not be rewarded with personal sacrifice.” My father said those very words to me, when I was seventeen years old. My father had a very informed understanding of the world we live in, and an intellect that far outweighed his formal education. I miss my father more than I can say. He could be as hard as nails, as unforgiving as iron, and as loving as any son could hope.

.

I know that one day’s action, by Mr. Gay, now seems to overshadow a decade of caring for my every need. In an effort to correct the record and give Mr. Gay a fighting chance of being released and keep me from homelessness. I have written this letter and will fax it to; Governor Jerry Brown of California and The Public Defenders Office of Orange County.

.

IF there had been time? I would have started, run and promoted 24/7 an Indiegogo Campaign to raise money for his bail and a very good attorney. Quite honestly, if it were not for Mr. Gay… I would have died in my bed… this year. I owe Mr. Gay my life.

.

.

Dear Governor Jerry Brown,

My name is Daniel Hanning and I live in Cypress, California. I am a disabled American with a huge problem that I pray your office will assist me. I have a caregiver, and best friend and significant other of twenty-five years. For the past eight years he has been my sole caregiver. IF I ate, it was because Glen Allen Gay feed me. If I bathed, it was because Glen Allen Gay bathed me. If I shopped or enjoyed fresh air or went to a doctor appointment, it was because Mr. Glen Allen Gay got me there safely.

.

On Friday September 13th, 2013 Mr. Gay was walking to the local Unemployment office. He had not received his check when it was scheduled, not for more than seven days late. Just a week before someone on our property stole his one and only means of transportation, his bicycle. It was very hot. Mr. Gay was very tired and under tremendous stresses.

.

For the past eight years Mr. Gay gets up at 5 or 6AM to feed me and get me my morning medications. After that, we would go out and try to find a full time job. At 47 in this market Mr. Gay has worked tirelessly to find that illusive full time job. Upon getting home, at noon, he would get me fed lunch and bathed if it was my day to have a bath.

.

Next, my afternoon medications. Then Mr. Gay would go to his part-time job. Upon getting home for his job he would prepare dinner for me, get my evening medications and then get me ready for bed. He would stay up with me, if my pain was bad as it has been for the past two years. I suffered with severe Degenerative Disc disease, spinal stenosis, limited use of my left hand, left foot drop, and severe intractable pain. Mr. Gay worked tirelessly to make my life livable.

.

On July 29th, 2013 Mr. Gay and myself received a Sixty Day Notice to vacate our affordable residence of the past ten years. On top of caring for me. On top of looking for work and having dozens of employers pass him over for a younger person. On top of my condition getting worse, so bad that I stop breathing in the middle of the night and being unable to swallow often. On top of having his only means of transportation stolen (the new owner of the building told one of the evicted residents “take any bike you want off the property I want all of them off of my property. The same property owner that has refused to get permits from the City of Cypress for his work on this property)

.

On top of all of that Mr. Gay spent FIVE DAYS on the phone trying to get through to Unemployment. I was on my cell phone, he was on his cell phone and I was using the building phone. Three phones for five days and we never once got through to the unemployment offices. Mr. Gay and I needed his check so that we could afford to comply with the 60 day notice and move.

.

Without Mr. Gay, Dear Sir, I am completely lost. I will end up in a continuing care facility, costing the state thousands a week more than my disease costs now. That, or I will Fall between the cracks and end up homeless on the streets of Orange County, California.

.

Mr. Gay broke under the pressure. At 47 years of age Mr. Gay broke the law. Instead of continuing to walk, in the heat for miles to get a check. Mr. Gay broke with what is right and made a huge error in judgment and broke the law.

.

Please understand that I am not condoning Mr. Gay’s actions I am putting his actions into context. If anyone is to blame, it is me. I ask so much of him every day. His job refuses full time hours. HE works for Olive Garden and I am sure you are aware the owner of this company is making a political point (he hates President Obama and ‘Obamacare’ aka ‘The Affordable Care Act’) and refuses all hourly employees livable wage jobs by keeping hours to less than twenty a week. I am sure that if this lowly blog write (I write The Other Shoe) knows about the antics of the CEO of Darden Foods, you do, too.

.

Mr. Gay has worked hard and played by the rules the majority of his life. He takes care of me, free of charge to the County of Orange and the State of California. Mr. Gay is set to be arraigned Tuesday September 17th, 2013. Mr. Glen Allen Gay (age 47) Men’s Central Orange County Booking # 2785848. If he is released on his own recognizance with community service? He can return and continue to help me life and move.

.

However, if Mr. Gay is sentenced I will need full time care, paid for by the County of Orange and the State of California. Mr. Gay did not sell anything or damage anyone else’s property. He did not cause another human any pain of suffering. However, if he is held it will cause me grave pain and suffering. If I end up homeless, I will likely die due to my condition. I will slip and fall and I will expire. I cannot walk more than a few steps. I cannot bathe myself or prepare my own meals. I do not want to become a burden to the county or the state or end up homeless and dead.

.

Please can you help me help Mr. Gay? I am fearful for my life. Please, reach out and change the course of our futures and protect my health and life?

.

You can reach me at [removed for privacy concerns] Please, just one phone call can alter the course of our futures. Give Mr. Gay a second chance at helping me and bring hope to my life. Please contact me if you need further information of proof of my cervical degenerative disc disease and spinal stenosis.

.

Thank you for your time and efforts in this matter,

Respectfully,

Daniel L. Hanning
