A Week in Review - September 27th 2014

Danny PET OCM 9-3-14 5

.

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. If its Saturday? Then it is time for ‘A Week in Review’! That’s right My Dear and Devout Readers, the weekend has come the workweek in done. For many of you, My Dear Readers, the work week is just too busy to take time to read for pleasure. That is why I have created and now published for three years this article series. Each and every Saturday I post a review of all the articles published during the previous week.

.

I link to the article, a short excerpt from the article itself and, finally, I write a little something about the article I have linked. Bingo! How all of you, My Dear Readers, can catch-up on a whole week’s writing and publication in one place. Now, for this week, I (working, as always, completely ALONE) have managed to write and publish a record TEN ARTICLES! My Dear Readers, I simply am without the ability, to put into words, the overwhelming pride I feel. Pride that, in spite of pain and roaring depression, I have pushed myself as hard as I can to write and publish. Publish a record amount of good works to help further my cancer treatment funding campaign. I just feel, in my heart and soul, that if I can write and publish more and more “Good works’ that maybe… just MAYBE you, My Dearest Readers, will see my efforts… appreciate my work and reward my efforts by pledging your support to my battle against cancer!

.

As well, each and every article is an opportunity to drawn in more ‘new readers’, new followers and new faces that just might see donating to my Indiegogo campaign as an investment. An earned investment in a talented man who, obviously, works diligently to bring; entertainment, information, laughs and suspense to these pages and your lives. I work hard band I work long hours as a way to pay honor to the support and donations already received, and as an offering to anyone that will give in the near future. ‘Near Future’ is right there are only FIVE DAYS LEFT! I am running out of time fast! Time to convince the people I love to reach out and challenge the nay Sayers by donating to a fund to help me BATTLE CANER!

.

So, with each word written, each paragraph finished and every article published I am contributing and investing in our relationship… our friendship! I just hope that I convince enough of you, My Dearest Readers, to garner sufficient funds to win this battle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma!

.

Well, it is 11:00PM on Friday night, so if I am going to get any sleep tonight, I simply must get moving on this weekly review! So, without further adieu I give you ‘A Week in Review’ here at ‘The Other Shoe’!

.

  • My Two Cents – September 22nd, 2014 : “In closing, again, I never wanted to run a campaign this year. My Dear Readers I wanted 2014 to be a year where I wrote, published, and entertained without asking anything, one red cent, from you or anyone else. But as they say ‘the best laid plans of mice and men…’. I come to you, in these closing hours of my campaign, to ask, to implore, to convince, to beseech you My Dearest Readers, to reach out and help lift me so that I might stand in battle and win this war on my cancer.” It as Monday, just five short days ago, and I was already feeling the heat of failure. At this point I had raised just $150, and the shortness of support smarted! I knew not where support would come, I knew not if I would ever garner the support necessary for me to wage a successful battle with my Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma cancer! I had been… told/whispered/hinted at that ‘somebody’ was working to undermine my best efforts. That ‘someone’ was under the (MISTAKEN) impression that if I was deprived of support that (somehow) I would ‘sprout a new spine, new nerve roots, a new leg and be FREE of CANCER’ and “be forced to return to work”. I can only imagine that this person’ was totally bereft of medical knowledge, had not been around these past ten years, failed to understand the medical reality that damaged nerve fiber NEVER HEALS! That is why paraplegics NEVER get up out of their wheelchairs and power chairs and DANCE! (Except, of course, in ‘Tent Revivals’) The only way one might imagine that depriving a human being of much needed support to BATTLE CANER, is if their minds were so clouded by anger and hatred that reason had long ago left them. I was so deeply HURT, by the telling, that I had to explain to the person who told me this, that I was not “upset at them… I am upset by the actions which you tell me about”. My Dear Readers, please do tell me just WHAT KIND of person would run around sewing seeds of distrust based in falsehoods and deceit? What kind of a human being, a Christian, would seek to undermine the efforts of a disabled person to gather funds need to (now) BATTLE CANCER!?! My Oncologist, upon meeting me and hearing the story of my head injury… my further disability… my loss of mobility and NOW my CANER! He marveled at my enthusiasm, my ‘Good Attitude’ and my perseverance in the face of YET ANOTHER personal medical BATTLE! He openly admitted that he did not think he could manage to go through what I have, “and keep the same positive and enthusiastic attitude”! However, I have read that some ‘kinds’ of people ONLY have or keep sick/disabled people as ‘friends’ just so they can ‘Watch them loose their battles with disability or disease”! There are some really sick people out there… really!

  • A ‘Shout-Out’ to ‘The Solitary-One’ : “Sherri Mikeska aka‘The-Solitary-One’ I would like to “Thank YOU!” for; your donation, your time, your kindness, your generosity… AND for picking the “Multi-SOCIAL-Media ‘Shout-Out’!” as it was the ‘Perk’ that I created all by myself! I have been waiting for someone to pick this ‘Perk’ so I could do this… procedure. I really hope that you Sherri Mikeska ‘The-Solitary-One’ sees ALL of these ‘Shout-Outs’! Now, I did see the ‘RL’ name of the person that made the donation. Well, the first name. However, since I DID NOT receive; an email, an Indiegogo PM, or any correspondence giving me permission to use the contributors Real Life name? I DID NOT reveal even the first name that I have record.” The very FIRST of its kind, but hopefully not the last! This is part of the (personal brainchild of ME) ‘Multi-Social-Media SHOUT-OUT!” as a ‘PERK’ for ANY donation of $40 or more! There are STILL 13 (Thirteen) of these ‘Social Media Wonders’ left! You get mention in/on; BOTH Blogs, THREE Facebook Accounts (Mine, The Other Shoe and Danny’s Cancer Treatment Fund), TWO Twitter Accounts AND One YouTube VIDEO just FOR YOU! This is a GREAT Perk and one that I was SURE would be a HIT! With FIVE DAYS LEFT I am SURE that there are STILL a few people out here that would REALLY enjoy a ‘Multi-Social-Media’ SHOUT-OUT! Drop $40 of MORE at the campaign, PICK the PERK and WAIT for the WAVE of MEDIA Recognition! (The Net will NEVER be the SAME!) AGAIN ““Thank YOU!” to Sherri Mikeska!!!

  • The Mars Report – September 22nd, 2014: “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. Today I bring you, yet another, edition of ‘The Mars report’. There are a great many events transpiring, here on Earth in regards to Mars, and in the Martian orbit. The Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) is about to have some company in the Martian orbit. The MAVEN (Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution) spacecraft achieved Martian orbit roughly twenty hours ago, late Sunday night. The most tremendous thing about MAVEN is that this spacecraft will help mankind discover just what happened to the, once thick, atmosphere of Mars.” Determined to keep up the ‘regular’ publishing schedule, regardless of the; pain, confusion, depression and everything else. I put my nose to the grindstone, my mind into ‘Creative’ mode, took an extra pain medication and plunged, head first, into he awe and wonder that IS Curiosity’s adventure on the Martian Surface! This week was no different. I managed to find more than a half-dozen images to share, some really great narrative, and even shared some science! I am always happy to share the science and images that come from the rovers on the Martian Surface. My Dear Readers, I have been focused like a laser beam, devoted to my work, and hopeful that my HARD WORK and DILLIGENCE would be rewarded with YOUR DONATIONS! I hope, and pray, that I am right!

  • Multi-Social-Media Shout-Out! For Jason Kleppinger! : “So, Jason Kleppinger HERE IS YOUR ‘Multi-Social-Media Shout-Out!’ As well, I wold like to express my heartfelt THANKS for your kind contribution(S) to my cancer treatment funding campaign. Shortly, I will be broadcasting your name via; YouTube, Facebook, BOTH Blogs and my Twitter account(s)! By the time I am done… hundreds of people around the WORLD will KNOW of your kindness and GENEROSITY Jason Kleppinger!” And BAM right on the heals of the FIRST one comes the SECOND ‘Multi-Social-Media’ SHOUT-OUT! I am SO happy that these ‘Perks’ became so popular! I am only HOPING and PRAYING that many more will want to partake in this GREAT Social PERK. You get KNOWN on the internet FAST! Again, “THANK YOU JASON for your DONATIONS, your KINDNESS and you SUPPRT!” Thanks!

  • Lost in Space – Tour of Our Solar System ‘Review’: “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. Welcome to a review edition of ‘Lost In Space’. Last week we completed the series ‘Tour of Our Solar System’ with the publication of Jupiter. Today I am going to share a look back over all of the editions of ‘Lost in Space’ that made up the series ‘Tour of Our Solar System’. From looking at the ‘Likes’ and the traffic reports it is easy to see that this sub-series within ‘Lost in Space’ was a huge success.” As PRMISED (in Last week’s edition) and ON SCHEDULE I wrote and published this ‘Review’ of ALL the edidtions of ‘Lost in Space’ that made up the ‘Tour of Our Solar System’! I am so very happy that, at this point in the week, I am STILL staying on schedule, publishing FINE WORK, and not ‘skimping’ of taking shortcuts! Regardless of my pain (both physical and EMOTIONAL) so SOUJURN forward. I just Keep Moving Forward. Placing FATIH in you, My Dearest Readers, my family, and my very good old friends from Houston and Pearland! I just know that if I can manage to KEEP writing and publishing that my hard work and efforts WILL be REWARDED!

  • Notes From Behind the Keyboard – September 25th, 2014: “THAT, My Dear Readers, brings us to the end of this article, for today. I hope that I have opened some eyes, and shared some insight. It is always my intent to share, and inform. Never to judge or inflame. My words are just that, MY words. Nothing more, and certainly nothing less. I look forward to seeing you here, later today, and again tomorrow. On FRIDAY there WILL be an episode of ‘The Horror in Smithville’!” And into every life a little rain must fall. Yes, it is Wednesday and (when I wrote this article) my doubt had found its way into my heart and mind following my pain. Funny how pain is almost always accompanied by doubt. That being in pain, makes a person more susceptible to doubt. Even myself, I have found that there is doubt, along with some fear… and some genuine… confusion. I FEAR that I will be too short of funds, have to forgo chemotherapy… and fear that my cancer will overcome me… and take me from you, My Dear Readers. I am also confounded by the deafening silence coming from people I have known since I was a pre-teen and a teenager. One would think, since you are STILL in contact with them, they DO know of your malady… well, a friendship that spans FOUR DECADES? Should be a friendship that bears fruit in a time of need. Support, when one stands to face cancer and death, alone.

  • News From Around the World – September 25th 2014 : “Well now, My Dear Readers, that brings us to the end of this revival of ‘News From around the World’ here at The Other Shoe. As most of you are aware, I am running a running campaign at Indiegogo to help me with the mounting costs of battling my cancer. Danny’s Cancer Treatment Fund at Indiegogo is now in its FINAL WEEK! That’s right only seven more days for me to raise as much money as I can! I hate to be so brutally honest, but I am a ‘man on a mission’. A mission to raise money to help me with; transportation costs, pharmacy costs, treatment costs, and home care costs.” This article series has been absent for nearly TWO months. However, I brought this one out of mothballs JUST FOR YOU My Dearest Readers! I am working so hard, spending hour upon hour everyday behind the keyboard and on the net. Doing everything I CAN to curry favor and EARN/WIN YOUR SUPPORT! I JUST KNOW that IF I can manage to FINISH OUT THIS WEEK… PUBLISHING ALL THE REGUALR ARTICLES PLUS MORE!!! That I WILL see MANY ‘Good’ DONATIONS!! CORRECT!

  • The Horror in Smithville – Part – 14 – B – 3 : “Betty Sue and Truman are leaning up against the door, when they hear Barry form inside the inner office. They hear him screaming! They had smelled cigarette smoke, again, a few moments earlier. Then it got really quite. Now… Barry was screaming AGAIN! This time is was so loud that it forced Truman and Betty Sue away from the door to the inner office. They heard Barry’s screaming twice, then they could have sworn they heard… Barry begging for his life! Truman got right up against the door, again, and put his ear hard up against the door. He could barely make out Barry saying “PLEASE just STOP right NOW!”” AS PROMISED!!! This week, we return to Barry Gartuske, Truman Dunahoo, and Betty Sue. We have Deputy Darryl on his way to “apprehend the MURDERER”… (Is Timmy DEAD?) AND we have the REAPPREAENCE of ‘The Tall Man’ in all his gory… or is that ‘glory’… Anyway, it is a GREAT episode and REAL ‘MUST READ’ for any of My Dear Readers that enjoy suspense novels or horror! And who DOESN’T at THIS time of year, right? I am HOPING BEYOND HOPE that I WILL have this story FINISHED just in time for HALLOWEEN!!! Now, My Dear Readers, I just CANNOT think of a BETTER motivator… to get me TO finish this horror novel IN TIME for HALLOWEEN than to have a GREAT Ending to my CAMPAIGN! The more money I garner? The BETTER the CHANCES are for me to FINISH! Simple!

  • INTERNATIONAL Traffic August – September 2014 : “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. Now, My Dear Readers, I have always wrote and published for the largest possible audience. Seems to me that the greatest accomplishment for a writer, of any kind, is to have their work read by the largest possible audience. Sure, Domestic audiences are great, it is gratifying to have the people you grew up with read and like your work. Although, the greatest test of a writer’s chops (it would seem to me… as logical) would be so demonstrate that one’s work has international appeal. If you, My Dear readers, have been a long-time reader of this blog, what I am about to publish will be rather familiar.” Well, My Dearest readers, I was looking over the traffic reports for the past month. Nothing out of the ordinary… except there is a LOT MORE traffic at the secondary location that EVERY before (that is over at Word Press). Then, I noticed something ELSE. I was looking at the SOURCE of this great influx of traffic. Low and behold, I find the source… and it knocks my socks off! The ‘source’ of the great increase in traffic? INTERNATIONAL READERS! That’s right, over the past several months, the better part of this year, my Internationla readership has been on a gradual increase! For the purposes of this article I have limited the graphics to the increase in just the last thirty days. But, just at the ‘secondary’ location? There are more than THIRTY nations where I have readers! Still the majority of my traffic is in the ‘GoodOl’USA!’ but now I have ‘regular’ readers in; England, Germany, Spain, France, Greece, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, and India just to name a handful! In the article (linked above) you can see all the nations listed with the number of readers by the name of the country. I am just FALBERGASTED! The NUMBERS are just MINDNUMBING! Over all, between the TWO locations? In just ONE DAY I now have OVER ONE HUNDRED SEPARATE VISITORS! Even BETTER it shows that TWICE A WEEK I have 100+ days! This is better than ever before! Between the increasing international traffic and the several 100+ visitor days my blog(s) have gained a popularity… my WORK my WRITING has gained a level of popularity that I had not even noticed, and am just HUMBLED by!

.

So, My Dear Readers, that brings us to the end of this weeks’ edition of ‘A Week in Review’ here at ‘The Other Shoe’. If you have read this entire article, then I think that you, My Dear Readers, now understand why I have managed to keep in a ‘Good Mood’ regardless of the dismal sate of my campaign. I can take heart in the fact that my writing and my work is gaining an international audience! That, overall, my traffic is on the up-swing, and that more and more people, every day, are learning just what a joy it can be to read something written by Danny Hanning!

.

YES! I really do need for donations to increase… either in frequency or size… or BOTH! I simply will not be able to afford to restart my treatments and care with the $280 I have raised. However, I will Make A PROMISE right here, right now’! That if (somehow) I manage to break $1,000.00 before the end of the campaign that I “will restart and STAY WITH my chemotherapy/radiation therapy. PERIOD! I do NOT want to shorten my life by refusing these treatments, However, I will NOT allow myself to be without enough money to pay the rent just so I can afford; transportation, food, a caregiver, and medications. PERIOD!

.

So, there it is My Dear Readers, a FULL and complete week of writing and publishing. JUST AS I PROMSIED! Now, I have done MY PART. It is TIME for you, My Dear Readers, to do your PART! I have sojourned on through pain, doubt and fear these past four weeks. I have done so without ‘seeing’ the financial… or friendship support that I need to battle and beat cancer. Regardless, I have managed to write and publish TEN ‘Good’ articles for your reading pleasure. Now, won’t you PLEASE click on the link below… and make my life BETTER and SAFER by pledging YOUR support?

.

Adieu!

.

Thank YOU!

.

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. Well, here we are to Saturday again, already. So, if it is Saturday then I it is time for ‘A Week in Review’ here at The Other Shoe. This is a rather special review as this week was host to some new articles here, and more than one pivotal article in our favorite series. A rather impressive accomplishment if you consider just how sick I have been for the past several weeks. My apologies for the tardiness of this piece. The night, behind us, was long and eventful… for me, and as such, my hands and body took their time… getting ready.

.

Regardless of my personal woes, the work must continue unabated. Amazingly, in spite of fevers and other physical woes and frights, Nine articles were published in just this last week. I must say, for just one person; researching, documenting, writing, editing, and publishing every one of those nine articles brings me great pride. As well, I do not know if anyone but me looks at it… but, there is a traffic counter, over in the right hand bar. This week we saw this traffic counter enter unknown territory .

.

For it was this week that this traffic counter entered and remained in the fifties for all week. It was much to my surprise that the counter, at one point, reaching the all time high of fifty-nine! AS I wrote this article, Saturday afternoon, it was flirting with 51-53. Just how could a man, a writer, not feel great pride in seeing this sight? One thought comes right to mind… “Thank YOU!”

.

Yes, for it is you, My Dear Readers, that drive that counter and are the source of my pride. Each visit, each page turned, each article read you bring pride to my heart and soul. It is with every word, of mine, that you read you bestow upon me a great honor. Like a renaissance minstrel, I come here every day and spin webs of words for you to untangle. Without fail, every day, and every week, you return to me and toil in my webs. You do me a great honor, one that I will not soon forget… if ever.

.

Now, before I bring tears to my eyes (hah! Too late) let me share with you the fruit of this week’s labors. My Dear Readers, my health is failing… I have written an article… explaining my current state… my maladies and shortcomings. I hesitate to publish this work, for it was written in darkness. Darkness in my mind, in my heart and in my soul. There is one… of those maladies I mentioned.

.

Back to point, my health is failing. As I knew it would, as I had been so often warned, and as I have feared. Last night, was a terrible trip fraught with personal battles… that I barely escaped. Even nightfall… night, no longer gives me rest or respite… anymore. I say this not for… pity or any other selfish reason. I say this, more, as a warning. This blog is my life-blood. In it I have poured all that is myself. Men, all of us, seek immortality from birth.

.

Many men seek it through exploits; in sport, in business, in commerce and even in battle. Many more men seek it in progeny, the furtherance of self through birth of new life. That goal, has repeatedly escaped me, and not from a lack of trying… or ability. Seems the women I chose to bed, had no desire to raise young. Anywho, this blog and all my writings are my progeny … my immortality. They will live on past me, in my wake they will still thrill and challenge, enrage and entertain. Just as I have done, in life.

.

Honestly, I hope to live many more years and put a great many of you in the ground. Hope… is not a thing that changes destiny or fate, regardless of what children’s stories portend. I am bound by the cards I have drawn and the fate and destiny that they hold, for me. Be I here for another day, or another decade I promise you, My Dear Readers, that for so long as there is breath in my lungs, strength in my body and thoughts in my mind… I will come here and share.

.

No man can promise more, no person could expect any more.

.

Having said, we continue on to today’s faire here at The Other Shoe. As mentioned, above, this week was (for me) a glorious week. I shared often, I shared soulfully, and from this week’s numbers you, My Dear Readers, drank deep at the chalice of my words. I hope that, in drinking, they brought you pleasure as much as I in bringing them to you.

.

So, without further adieu… I bring you ‘A Week in Review!

.

  • Sunday Funnies – March 30th, 2014 : “After many weeks of trying, I have finally managed to get some footage of Mr. Alexander’s unique personal habit. You see, Alexander is unique. Not just in this habit, but in a great many ways, every single day. He talks… constantly. He is kind and loving, true and forgiving. For today, we focus on one of his unique, and entertaining, personal habits.” This week’s videos were a major coupe. Many week’s, I have spent, in the single endeavor of capturing this, for you. Alexander is very dear to me, you see. He is very unique, in a great many ways. What you witnessed here this day, in the videos that I shared, was a very personal habit, he enjoys. Yes, it is cute and entertaining. But, please understand, too, that it is a quite personal thing… to Alexander, too. Enjoy!

  • Coming This Week – March 30/31st, 2014 : “Welcome back My Dear Reader to The Other Shoe. Well now, I would usually write and publish this article on Monday. Yet, something just caught my eye, and I just had to share it with you, My Dear Readers. If you are reading this article on Sunday March 30th, 2014 (or have visited and read articles between Friday March 28th and Sunday March 30th), you are taking part in the single largest influx of visitors my blogs have ever seen. Yes, I have two locations for The Other Shoe. The primary blog located at blog.com and secondary located at wordpress.com. I saw secondary only because it was the second location of my blog launched. Remember, I do everything at both blog locations. Writing, editing, publishing, promotions… everything.” Short, sweet and to the point, what more could one ask for. This single article, the one featured above, set in motion one of the single busiest weeks this blog has ever seen. It was with great pride, and great effort, each story was wrought. Each word and each image, into each went great thought. If you have not yet ventured, through this week’s stories and tales, an adventure you have lost.

  • The Mars Report – March 31st, 2014 : “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. Today I have a very informative edition of ‘The Mars Report’ for all of you, My Dear Readers. The image you see above is an artist’s concept of the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter. This orbiter has many missions and two of them are in support to the rover Curiosity. First, this orbiter takes high-resolution images of the Martian surface. These images are then used to plot Curiosity’s navigation and course. Second, the orbiter relays information and images from the rover to earth.” In this week’s edition, of ‘The Mars Report’, we ventured where no human has ever before. With each passing day, we get closer, to the mountain named Sharp. Along the way it will make discoveries, and share them I will. One need look no further, than this article to be sure, to get their fill. Of all things Martian, and a few extraterrestrial thrills.

  • News from Around the World : “Just as the Founding Fathers designed. Yes, the Senate is the Elder body of our Congress, in that it is the senior and most reasoned body. The Founding Fathers knew (foresaw) that destructive populist movements might well gain a majority in the lower house of Congress. As a boy, and young man, I read “The Federalist Papers’ and ‘Articles of Confederation’. It was in these documents that our nation’s democracy were brought to fruition. They outlined how the lower house of a Congress was ‘The People’s House’ and, as such, could easily fall prey to populist ideals that ran contrary to the continued health of our democracy and our Republic.” A little ‘American’ news, mixed with stories from afar. This is what I wanted.. This week saw the unveiling of this ‘new’ article series, ‘News from Around the World’. It is my hopes that it catches on, with all of you, My Dear Readers. It is my hope that I can share meaningful news from afar. ENJOY!

  • Lost in Space – April 2nd, 2014 : “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. A very special welcome, indeed, to this the second edition of ‘Lost in Space’! I am quite proud to announce that last week’s, premier, edition of this article helped spearhead the single largest increase in visitor traffic (at both locations) for my blog(s). It would seem, that I am not the only person that enjoys looking at beautiful images from outer space. Kudos to all of you, My Dear Readers, which visited between Wednesday and Sunday of last week as your visits helped. You helped propel my work to ever-growing levels of popularity. That’s a ‘Good Thing’!” Nowhere else, have I seen a larger collection, every single week, of images strung, from the heavens they come, together from afar. I bring to you, My Dear Readers, each and every week. Celestial visions, a sight to behold, I bring to these pages for young and for old. Mankind’s future rests in these stars. When I was younger… we worked among the stars.

  • Personal-Medical Update – April 3rd 2014 : “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. First, I would like to thank everyone for their kind words of support during my difficult day yesterday. Yesterday I had an appointment with the doctor to evaluate a lump on my face, at my jaw line. Thankfully this lump is not any kind of tumor. For that news I am extremely grateful. However, I was told that it is a swollen lymph node.” It sucks to be sick, on top of my pain. Bad news just keeps coming, my way. Keep you posted, I will as I know. Just sucks being this weak and… stricken… at such a young age.

  • The Horror in Smithville – Part Four: “Archer was cold. Like, really cold to the bones. He reached out to feel for the sleeping bag, or a blanket. Sometimes, when it got really cold during the night, Timmy would put a nice wool blanket on top of his sleeping bag. That always chased the cold away, and he would half-wake-up and pull it around him. Nothing. He felt around and around… then two things occurred to Archer. First, his hands and feet seemed to move in slow motion. The next, he wasn’t breathing!” This one is easy; I wish that they were so. Quite simply; if you haven’t read this, then DO!

  • The Deep Web – Part Three : “Remember, venturing into this darker and hacker-filled part of the web is a venture fraught with danger and exposure. Exposure to people and organizations that would just a soon as take your identity and all your money, as give you the time of day. If you recall these darker recesses of the web are populated by (either); Black Hats [hackers with deception and theft only in mind] and White Hats [hackers that have made a conscious choice to use their computer skills to protect or improve the life of their friends and clients]. Most of the time, My Dear Readers, you will not know which you are dealing with… until it is too late.” Quite simply put… this is a ‘Must Read’ for anyone with the courage, the WWW to leave. I told you in the beginning, yet here I will remind you again. In the ENTIRE World Wide Web, of which this blog is part, what you are seeing… what you know of… is only such a very small part. ‘The Deep Web’ is thousands of times larger than that which you know. Like a Pirate’s Adventure this other web will you show. You venture at your own peril, if this series you do not first read. I pity those that go there, unprepared. Like lambs to the slaughter, but they will see.

.

By gum, that brings us to the close, of this article… this week… this adventure, we close. My time, well spent, if it brought you some joy. If it made you; think, or scrim, laugh, or cry, want to live or want to try.

.

It is with a sadness, I bring it to an end. Hopeful that next week, we can start it all over again. Till then, I will bid you adieu. Take care, look both ways, be kind to another… as you would have them be kind to… you.

.

As always… I am so deeply honored by each of your visits. Come back often, and visit.

.

Thank YOU!

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. Second, the orbiter relays information and images from the rover to earth.

.

Now, I had not been keeping up with the mission (daily) like before all the new additions to The Other Shoe. Seems that the orbiter took a bit of a break. On March 9th the reconnaissance orbiter went offline as it switched computers, from primary to backup. This left a vital link in communications from Curiosity to earth and us. That has left people, like myself, quite bereft of new mages to share with our readers. I have five images that I am here to share, today. However, we might not see ‘The Mars Report’ next week if there are no new images of science to report. Just a little FYI.

.

Our next image is of the rover Curiosity. This is a selfie taken of a shadow of the rover. The shadow falls on a slope of the McClure-Beverlin Escarpment. This escarpment is located on on the western rim of Endeavour Crater. The images was taken on March 20, 2014 by the rover's rear hazard-avoidance camera. Well, we humans just love taking selfies, now it is Curiosity’s turn.

.

.

With the orbiter back up and running, a new discovery was made on the Martian surface. Our next image is of that discovery, an all new gully. Taken by the High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) of the orbiter on two different occasions. The image to the left was taken November 2010 and the image on the right was taken May 2013. The second image reveals the formation of a new gully on the crater wall slope of the southern highlands. It is believed that it was formed by activity by carbon dioxide frost.

.

Switching back to a black/white image, the shot below is of rock rows on striated ground. These rock rows are in the foreground of this image. In the background we can see our, eventual, goal Mount Sharp. The rock rows are in an outcrop called "Junda". Curiosity passed this outcrop during a drive of 328 feet (100 meters) on Feb. 19. 2014.

.

Ahhh, we are getting close to the end of this edition of ‘The Mars Report’ so I am getting to the really good images. Joy! Our next image is one that I have searched for… for many months. Taken with the combination images from the the High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) camera aboard the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter Platform, in orbit over the Martian surface. This image shows… … … (drum roll, please!) … the route driven and route planned for NASA's Curiosity Mars rover from before reaching "Dingo Gap". Now, this is a ‘Must Keep’ image for all hardcore Curiosity fans and Martian Fanboys. If I had the money? I would have this puppy enlarged, wall sided, and put it up on a wall in my apartment. Yes, I am a ‘Martian Fanboy’… if you hadn’t already guessed that by the ongoing weekly article series.

.

Well, My Dear Readers, this brings us to our final image of the day for this edition of ‘The Mars Report’. As I mentioned earlier, depending on available materials next Monday there may or may not be an edition next Monday. I really hope that they get the uploads flying and post lots and lots of images in the next week. The Mast Camera on the rover Curiosity took our final image of the day. This image was taken February 25th, 2014, about a quarter mile out from our next waypoint ‘The Kimberly’. This image shows sandstone layers with varying resistance to erosion are evident in this Martian scene. This is important because so far, on our trip with Curiosity, we have only encountered mudstone formations.

.

This is the why of my hopes that they get the orbiter busy relaying more and more images from this sandstone area. As well, there is a real opportunity for a lot of good science in this area. So, as we bring this edition to an end, enjoy this final image from the Mast Camera of the rover Curiosity.

Thank you all for dropping by today and sharing these images. I hope that I have brought a little wonder into your world, today. That is the gift I give to you, My Dear Readers. Wonder.

.

As always I am deeply honored that you come here and read my work.

The Deep Web - Part Two

.

[caption id="attachment_2482" align="aligncenter" width="450"]Forbidden Access _ The Deep Web Forbidden Access _ The Deep Web[/caption]

.

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. Welcome back to my ongoing series about ‘The Deep Web’, Part Two. First, a little review of some of the material we have already covered.

.

What is Tor? – Tor is an anonymizing browser meant to take advantage of an anonymizing network. This is meant to protect you, the end user, from piracy and hackers by routing your connection to the ‘Deep Web’ through bridges and concealing your IP address.

.

Tor cannot sove all anonymity problems. It focuses on protecting the transport of data. Using the ‘Tor Browser Bundle’ while browsing the ‘Deep Web’ will work to withhold some information about your computer’s configuration. Information about your computer’s configuration is golden to hackers, as they use this information to find and exploit weaknesses in said configuration.

.

Unlike in the regular web, and your normal web browser. Tor works to build a network of encrypted connections. Building connections one hop at a time. This means that on one connection has any more information than the hop before, and after. Regular browsers just connected you directly to the web site like; Amazon, eBay or Netflix.

.

That is it for the review of our previous edition of ‘The Deep Web’. Now, I would like to move forward with an itemization of Do’s & Don’ts. These are rules of surfing that should be ever present when one is surfing ‘The Deep Web’. To disregard these rules of use, is to place your computer and all computers in your home or on your network in jeopardy. Hackers are very sophisticated, today. They only need one opening, one moment of distraction or forgetfulness to take advantage and damage your computer(s), and your life.

.

[caption id="attachment_2477" align="aligncenter" width="450"]Access Forbidden Screen Access Forbidden Screen[/caption]

.

Rules to Follow on The Deep Web

  1. Always use a anonmyizing browser or browser bundle like Tor. Always make sure that you are using the most recent version of the browser and/or browser bundle.

  2. NEVER ‘torrent’ over the Tor browser/ These torrent applications ignore proxy settings and make a direct connections when they are told to use Tor. It will send your real IP address in the GET tracker request. Not only do you deanonmyzie your torrent traffic, you may also slow down the entire Tor network! BAD MOJO!

  3. NEVER enable or install browser plug-ins such as; Flash, Real Player, Quicktime and others. As they can be manipulated by hackers to reveal your Real IP Address. Tor does not recommend installing additional add-ons or plug-ins to the Tor browser.

  4. ALWAYS use HTTPS versions of web sites when surfing The Deep Web. In the normal web you susaly only use the HTTPS versions of; banking web sites, financial planning web sites, eBay, Amazon or other purchasing web sites. You must always check and make sure you are connecting via a S (HTTPS) or secure version. Tor pushes HTTPS everywhere you surf, though one must always check the type of web site and make double sure it is an HTTPS version.

  5. NEVER Open documents downloaded from The Deep Web while still connected to The Deep Web or regular internet. You shouldbe very vigilant to not download documents via Tor. ‘DOC’ and ‘PDF’ files can contain internt resources that will be accessed and/or used and downloaded OUTSIDE of Tor. This may reveal your Real IP addy and other computer confirguation specifics. If you must read a document downloaded from The Deep Web? It is strongly suggested that you do so using; a disconnected computer, using a Virtual Box[1], or using with a Virtual Machine[2]. Use a computer with the Wi-Fi turned off and the LAN cable removed. Asl well, do not reconnect LAN or turn on Wi-Fi without scanning with a Malware scanner, ROOTKIT scanner and rebooting your computer.

  6. USE bridges or find companies that provide bridges to The Deep Web . Tor tries to prevent attackers from learning what destination websites you connect to. To increase security and decrease risk you should configure your Tor browser to use a bridge-relay rather than connect directly to the Tor public network. You can find out more about bridge-relays[3] in the coming episode of ‘The Deep Web’ right here at The Other Shoe.

  7. Get a Gmail account to use for use for communication with Tor community and any communication out of furtherance with contacts with The Deep Web. Gmail uses HTTPS secure servers.

  8. USE Tor version 3.5.3 or greater only.

  9. ALWAYS use Bitcoin[4] ONLY for any and all transactions on The Deep Web. NEVER use your credit or debit card under any circumstances for transactions on The Deep Web.

.

That brings us to the end of the most fundamental Do’s & Don’ts for The Deep Web. I have one final, personal, suggestion. When working in/on The Deep Web? Pretend that you are dealing with pirates and thieves ALWAYS. Never let you guard slip, even for a single moment. You can survive engagements and transactions on The Deep Web millions of people do every dingle day. However, NEVER let your guard down, not even for one moment. It could make the difference between a profitable engagement, and costing you; your computer, your financial resources, your credit rating, and even your HOME.

.

[caption id="attachment_2481" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Access is FORBIDDEN The Deep Web Access is FORBIDDEN The Deep Web[/caption]

.

Next week, right here at ‘The Deep Web – Part Three’ I will share information on; bridges, virtual boxes, virtual machines and how to create these shields between you and The Deep Web.

.

As always I am deeply honored that you come here and read my work.

.

Thank YOU!

.

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe and ‘The Mars Report’ for March 24th, 2014. With the lost airliner in Asia, the turmoil brewing in the Ukraine, it is difficult to pull our eyes away from all this disaster and look to the skies. However, that is exactly what I did today, and what I am asking you MY Dear Readers to do for the next few moments. Actually, it is comforting to think that not all of our human condition is pain and suffering of other humans. Though it occupies little real estate in; newspapers, Television reporting, cable news networks and even blogs.

.

Curiosity, remember, is the Martian rover that we are following here at The Other Shoe. Even though it does not make the news, there is a lot of ‘good science’ happening on the surface of Mars. Hundreds of America; scientists, teachers, students, interns and elder scholars work tirelessly to bring useable science out of the mystery that surrounds our sister planet. Even science from back when I was still in school has relevance today. Take, for example, the image below. This is an image from the Voyager Project back in 1979.

.

[caption id="attachment_2575" align="aligncenter" width="630"]Martian Morning Clouds Seen by Viking Orbiter 1 in 1976 Martian Morning Clouds Seen by Viking Orbiter 1 in 1976[/caption]

(Image of Martian Clouds from Orbit – Voyager 1 1976)

.

The twin Voyager orbiters were the first, and last, manmade research vehicles to ever capture this sight. This is an image of morning clouds over Valles Marineris area of equatorial Mars. Never before, and not since, has any other humans brought back images of this complexity, and splendor. Even thirty-five years ago, American orbital research vehicles brought back scientific discoveries that help us better understand other climates, and ultimately our own. No other nation, on the planet earth, has ever managed to bring back images like this. American still stands as the founding nation of interplanetary flight, and discovery.

.

Now, for something completely different… a recent image from the surface of Mars thanks to the Curiosity rover’s NAVCAM. The navigational camera sits atop the center mast on the rover Curiosity. This image is a composite of several images taken by the NAVCAM on Mars Day 574 dating March 18th, 2014.This image looks southward toward a planned science waypoint at "the Kimberley," with an outcrop of eroded sandstone in the foreground. ‘The Kimberly’ is named after a region of Australia, here on earth. Now, ‘the Kimberly’ on Mars is made up of sandstone formations. This sandstone area in the Kimberly will be new and different terrain than the mudstone Curiosity has been limited to, since landing. This gives Curiosity, and scientists here on earth, a new opportunity to study sandstone formations on a foreign planet.

.

.

For our next image, we go back into orbit over the Martian surface. The image, below, was taken by The High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) camera on NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter. The Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter was launched prior to Curiosity and is meant as a navigational and support vehicle for the Curiosity rover. Well, let me clarify just a bit there. This orbiter does have its very own missions. However, it does help provide navigation for Curiosity, tracks Curiosity’s movement, and high resolution images from this orbiter are regularly used to help map out Curiosity’s movements and to plot its overall course. It was launched in conjunction with Curiosity and is immeasurably helpful to the Curiosity rover’s missions. The image below shows the rover Curiosity on ‘Murray Ridge’ on the Martian surface.

.

(Curiosity from Space on Murray Ridge approaching Murray Gap)

.

Staying in orbit, for the time being, our next image is still from the HiRISE camera. This is a very unique image, even for one from the Martian surface. As we approach the spring on the northern continent of Mars, we begin to see Martian sand dunes appear. They appear as they surface from their winter cover of seasonal carbon dioxide (dry) ice. Well… I tried to phrase this different... I could not. So, here is a quote from the NASA web site.

.

“The steep lee sides of the dunes are also ice-free along the crest, allowing sand to slide down the dune. Dark splotches are places where ice cracked earlier in spring, releasing sand. Soon the dunes will be completely bare and all signs of spring activity will be gone.”[1]

.

(Martian Sand Dunes in the Spring)

.

Well now, My Dear Readers, I had planned to share three or four more images. Had it all planned out, saved to my hard drive and ready to upload to both blogs. Going to be a smashing good issue of ‘The Mars report’ for its return to The Other Shoe. Apologies all around, as my pains (the severe sharp pain in my cervical spine, the lovely shooting pains form my cervical down my left arm and all the way into my left hand, and the very entertaining pains into my face and checks… that often make my left eye do the oddest things… even messes with the vision in my left eye)… yes, those pains… are really kicking up. Thus, resulting in a growing severe headache and accompanying irritability. Apologies, that I must include and narrate this final image. I hope for improved health… it never comes. Again, my apologies for this issue being shorter than planned.

.

The image below… YES, it does look like ‘communicator badges’ from ‘Star Trek’! However, they are sand dunes. Again, staying in orbit to the very end, this image was taken by the HiRISE camera aboard NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter on Dec. 30, 2013.

.

.

Well… one more image. The image below is from the Mastcam back aboard the rover, Curiosity. This image is a scene looking back at where Curiosity crossed a dune at "Dingo Gap" combines several exposures taken by the Navigation Camera (Navcam) high on the rover's mast.  The panorama is centered toward the east and spans about 225 degrees, from north-northwest at the left to west-southwest at the right..

.

.

That brings us to the end of this edition of ‘The Mars Report’ for March 24th, 2014. My Dear Readers, I want you to know and understand that bringing these images to you brings me great pleasure. All my life I have looked upward to the stars. Filled with boyhood wonder, even at 55, I have looked at the moon and stars. All my life I have wanted nothing more than to slip the surly bounds of earth and set foot on another planet. It is my humble opinion that earth… is/was meant merely as mankind’s cradle. That like our young, we are meant to leave the crib and walk elsewhere. Mankind simply cannot stay on earth. For those in-the-know you understand that, one day, our sun will explode. At that time, all life left on earth shall perish. Period.

.

As always I am deeply honored that you come here and read my work.

400th Article at The Other Shoe - Part Three

.

[caption id="attachment_2203" align="aligncenter" width="630"]Daniel Hanning of The Other Shoe Daniel Hanning of The Other Shoe[/caption]

.

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. You want to know something that will really get the blood pumping?  Looking back over a body of work as large as my writings at this blog that will get the blood pumping. On Thursday I published Part One and that took me back to the very first article I published, here at The Other Shoe. Immediately I was reminded of the passion I felt when I started this blog. I remembered that I started this blog in the pursuit of truth, and the hope that in sharing that truth… I would set myself and the people that I love…free.

.

That passion still lives within me, and the words and work of this blog. My Dear Readers, I consider myself… lucky. Lucky in that I am still here, and so is this blog. Reading about blogs, I found out that something like 70%-90% of blogs die… end, within the first year. I am only months from celebrating my forth anniversary here at The Other Shoe (March 22, 2014).

.

The last edition of this series focused to two different types of series that I have published here at The Other Shoe. Today, I am going to focus on the other type of series I published. PC Gaming is one of the few joys remaining in my life. Aside, of course, for the joy I experience writing and publishing my work. Gaming has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. PC Gaming combined two of my great loves; computers and gaming.

.

Now, the world of MMORPGs I was a little late to the party. I had played Guild Wars, right before I entered the world of Azeroth in World of Warcraft. I know it’s crazy but just writing the name of that game… takes me to that place. Since I started playing I have spend nearly an entire year ingame in WoW. I know that sounds like a lot, but spread over seven years, it is only like one day out of each week spent playing. That is a lot easier than one might think. The game is highly addictive, especially if you are good.

.

Well, I guess that is as good a segway as any, My dear readers, I bring you the Third Edition of my 400th celebratory series. Today, the world of MMORPGs.

.

World of Warcraft

[caption id="attachment_1988" align="aligncenter" width="630"]Danny at Stormwind Gates after Dragon Attack Danny at Stormwind Gates after Dragon Attack[/caption]

  • · MMORPGs And YOU! – World Of Warcraft : “For anyone that is thinking of expanding their PC gaming experience to a new genre. Or for anyone thinking of making their first venture in PC gaming the genre of massively multiplayer online role-playing games. World of Warcraftis quite definitely the game for you. My Dear Readers I played in many role-playing games, both on personal computers and in board games, previous to my introduction to this now world-famous game. First, a bit of irony. World of Warcraftmade its world debut November 23, 2004. November 23 is just three days after my birthday. However, in 2004… At the time of my birthday, I was not able to afford to purchase World of Warcraft.” Honestly, just writing about this game makes me flash on the fields of Azeroth, the rivers, the cities and the sky. For anyone thinking of playing a PC game (beyond those pitiful Facebook games and the like) WoW would be the game to check out. This game holds a very special place in my heart, in my memories and in my love for gaming and personal computers. You will never be able to play WoW on a; tablet or cell phone or other miniature computing device. WoW takes a real computer to play, and fully appreciate. You can go fishing (and actually catch fish), climb mountains, ride horses, go hunting and even fight your way (for days) through dungeons. My Dear Readers, if anyone would like to give me a gift? A gift of game time in WoW would surely bring a smile to my face. However, at $15 a month… well, I haven’t eaten but two meals in the past three days… I cannot afford to play my favorite game of all time. That is what World of Warcraft is, for me. I was a Mage and Potion master, in the world of Azeroth. I can make potions that are no longer p[art of the game. In my bank I have potions and flasks that have been removed from the game, but I still posses. Potions, Flaks and the like were my speciality, and I was very good at what I did. Funny that, I Real Life I worked in pharmacology for a decade. In WoW I love alchemy and potions. Virtual life imitating life, or vice versa? Either way… right now… this moment… I would give most anything, to once I have this published… re-enter the world of Azeroth and spend a few weeks. Play WoW and you, too, will know why.

  • · MMORPGs And You! – Part Two – Age of Conan : “The game that you’ve been seeing pictures and videos, above, as from the MMORPG ‘Age of Conan’. This MMORPG is based in the world of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. As well, a lot of the characters the plot lines the story are lifted from the movie series starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. If, My Dear Readers, you enjoyed in the works of Doyle or the movies of Arnold Schwarzenegger this MMORPG is the one for you!” Why am I doing this to myself? Writing about these games… reminds me of these games… reminding me of these games… makes me SO want to play these games. Age of Conan is another of the special games of this genre… for me. As a boy, I enjoyed the novels. As a young man, I enjoyed the movies. As an adult I just LOVED the MMORPG! There is just something special about playing in a world that you read about as a child, watched on the ‘Big Screen’ as a young man. This game is not nearly as ‘special to me as WoW… I doubt there will ever be another experience like WoW. However, the world of Conan the Barbarian is quite entertaining and enjoyable. I just now thought about it… the why… My Dear Readers, I had forgotten… the friendships. You meet people in game, and you develop friendships… that are just as real and tangible as the ones one makes in Real Life. No, I would never marry someone in game. And, YES, many of these games DO offer in game marriages. In Age of Conan I did develop several meaningful friendships. I think it is those friendships that I miss, too. AoC is a GREAT game, MMORPG. It has engaging plot, the plot works well through the game and quests. The game plays out in the world of the first movie, and the quest lines come right out of the movie and books. You would do well to check out this game, and not the slightest disappointed if you decided to play.

  • Rift

[caption id="attachment_855" align="aligncenter" width="630"]Enzo on a Spider Mount This is a screenshot of Enzo riding his Spider Mount in Sanctum, the major city.[/caption]

  • · MMORPG(s) and YOU – 1st Edition – Rift : “Today Rift is our game, and what a game it is. I started playing Rift right when it came out. I had heard/read about it for months and it looked to be what WoW started out. It had depth in the game (Good vs. Evil) and it was based on my favorite MMORPG of them all, WoW. Basically you are a; Mage or a Warrior, a Hunter or a Healer. You either heal you friends and party members or you fight the many monsters and Bosses that stand in your way. Mages and Hunters are ‘ranged’ fighters. They shot things at the targets while standing well back. The one up front, taking all the damage, are you Warriors and Tanks.” Rift is one of the MMORPGs that I continue to play. It is ‘Free-to-Play’ with an ‘Open World’ policy. You can go anywhere you want in the entire world, no boundaries. Many of the ‘FtP’ MMORPGs have whole parts of the world blocked off. Some of the world map is only accessible if you pay the monthly subscription fee. Not Rift though. Rift is the best of all the free MMORPGs that I have played, to date. It is easy to get started, involving from the beginning and very easy to level a character. You can ride mounts as early as level 10, unlike others where you have to be level 20 or 40 before you get up off your feet. One downside is that there is no self-flight. In WoW you can purchase flying mounts and fly all by yourself in any of the areas of the world. Seeing the gaming world, from above, adds a depth and quality to the game that is unmatched. I would suggest Rift to any beginning players… almost as much as WoW. Almost.

  • · MMORPGs And YOU! – Conclusion : “When I started this series, on June 24th 2013, I had no idea that it would span seven months and nine articles. Touting (compiled from all nine of the series) a grand total of 145 ‘Like’(s) this series was/is my greatest work to date. Hands down, the single most popular of the series was… … (drum roll, please)… … ‘Star Wars the Old Republic’ with thirty-six Likes total. As is that was not enough, this series was the single most ‘reblogged’ of all my works to date. Carried by three other bloggers (at one point) these articles certainty are the epiphany of my abilities in 2013.” Now, MY Dear Readers, IF you want to check out the NINE different MMORPGs that I shared, this would be THE article to read and peruse. I have included images from each of the nine games, and links to the nine separate articles. Each and every one of these games brought joy and happiness to my tortured life, at one point or another, over the past seven years. This conclusion article was a tribute to the genre, and to the nine MMORPGs that brought so many hours… days… weeks... months of enjoyment to me during the most painful and tortured time of my adult life. Now do you understand… just what these games mean to me?

.

With that I bring you to the conclusion of Part Three of my 400th Celebration here at The Other Shoe. I know… I have spent more time… written more and shared more on this, the 400th Celebration than any other celebration or review in the four year history of my blog. This milestone means the world to me. Especially at this point in my life, right now.

.

Things are tough for yours truly, right now. I refuse to complain, but I also refuse to ignore. I am not alone in my plight. Millions upon millions of Americans are caught between an eternal rock and a perpetual hard place. I do the best I can, with what I have and what is shared with me buy others. One thing that is different? I work hard as I am physically able to write and entertain. I do my very best to entertain and enlighten and I spend many hours each day in that pursuit.

.

Tomorrow I will be bringing you the 4th edition of this celebratory review of my 400th article and four-year journey.
