Welcome back My Dear Shoevians to The Other Shoe. I have to openly admit, this week was fraught with pain and problems! Mid-week I was struck with some terrific pain, all through my neck and into my arms and head. I tried sleeping it away, I tried soaking it away and all to no avail. Finally, I just settled in for a long hard ride and decided to do as little as I could around the house… … … and to let the blogs… sit. THAT was a very difficult decision, My Dear Shoevians.

.

After a seven month absence I was seeing traffic numbers, for a week’s time, up to One Hundred Nineteen!!! That translates to a yearly traffic of well over SIX THOUSAND!!!!! That is some serious traffic numbers to take to a publisher… with a truly original and touching novel in hand. It wasn’t easy but I took Tuesday and Wednesday off. I re-published my Hubble’s 25th Anniversary’ on Wednesday, then it happened.

.

This happens every six to eight months, at my location at blog dot com, the whole bloody web site just crashes! So, I wait and wait and wait. GONE for three days! I did not ‘see’ my primary blog location for three days, until today! So, here I am trying my hardest to play catch-up with the missed publication of the ‘Traffic Reports’ band now this ‘A Week in Review’. Now, I am tired and hurting all over again. But this will pass. I have to manage to finish this weekly review, and then publish ‘Sunday Funnies’ before it is no longer Sunday!

.

So, without further adieu, I give you ‘A Week in Review – May 10th, 2015’!

  • Sunday Funnies – Gryphon’s Premiere! – “Welcome back My Dear Shoevians to The Other Shoe. Today is a extra special edition of ‘Sunday Funnies’! Today I would like to ask you, My Dear Shoevians, to join me in Welcoming Gryphon D. Hannning (click on the hyperlink to go to Gryphon’s Facebook Page!) to this storied article series. As most of you are aware… … … Alexander R. Hanning passed away, several weeks ago, after a long battle with failing health. I made him as comfortable as possible, prepared all his favorite foods, and held him 24/7 for his comfort. He was loved deeply, and will be even more deeply missed. Last edition of ‘Sunday Funnies’ was a homage to Alexander.” This, My Dear Shoevians, was a very difficult article for me to write and publish. You see, it was an end, of sorts. An end to the era of Alexander R. Hanning as the star of ‘Sunday Funnies’ and the beginning of an all new era of Gryphon D. Hannning as the new star. I never do well with endings… of anything, but especially of the furry little ones I come to care for and love. There will never be a day… a time when I stop thinking of Alexander. He had that big an impact on my life, my work, my soul. It was Alexander that was at my side when I was diagnosed with cancer. It was Alexander that was at my side when I came home after chemotherapy. It was Alexander that stayed by my side when I got sick, and was there no matter what happened. However, this article was the premiere for another furry friend, Gryphon D. Hannning. This is Gryphon’s premiere video and premiere edition of ‘Sunday Funnies’. I hope that everyone stopped by to enjoy his premiere and his antics. Enjoy!

  • The Mars Report – May 4th, 2015 – “Welcome back My Dear Shoevians to The Other Shoe. Today marks the beginning of my third week back at; researching, writing, editing and publishing here at The Other Shoe. That is an important milestone for me, as just a few months ago (about mid-way through my chemotherapy treatments) I wondered if I would ever return to writing and publishing again. Well, not at all, what I mean is I doubted that I would ever again publish on a regular schedule again. Now, here I am two weeks past and over a dozen articles under my belt since my ‘The Rebirth and Re-Launch of The Other Shoe’ article of April 13th, 2015.” It was this Gargantuan edition of ‘The Mars Report’ that I think put me over the edge and into a world of hurt. The singles largest edition, with the most images, the most conetnet and the most science ever! If you haven’t looked at this edition, you should! Enjoy!

  • Lost in Space – Hubble’s 25th – Redux – “So good, worth republishing today! I’m taking a day of R&R, here’s a wonderful celebration of Hubble’s 25th anniversary. Enjoy! Welcome back My Dear Shoevians to The Other Shoe. Today is Wednesday April 22nd, 2015 and when I started the research for this article I quickly became aware that today is the 25th Anniversary of the launch of the Hubble Space Telescope! What a glorious day to pay tribute to this wonder of the modern age, by sharing some of the most recent images captured by Hubble.” With the pain in my neck reaching new levels of blinding pain, I decided to give myself a day to rest and recover. Little did I know that the primary blog location would take this opportunity to go AWOL! Nevertheless, this edition is/was worth republishing, so I did! ENJOY!

  • Traffic Reports – May 7th, 2015 “Now that I have the news out of the way, let me get to the meat of this article. As many of you, My Dear Shoevians, know about every six months I publish a ‘Traffic Report’. Now, I do this for many reasons, not the least of which is that I enjoy sharing the limited success of my writing. Yes, I work hard at; research, writing, editing and publishing at The Other Shoe. When I see the traffic counter on the Blog Dot com location stay over one hundred for a week or more… YES I am very very proud! That has occurred over the past two weeks.” This was a very enlightening edition of ‘Traffic Reports’. Whereas I did see the corresponding decline in readership during my chemotherapy, if you don’t publish new content, readers go elsewhere, that is a given. However, there is ‘Good News’ in this report, too! Good news in the discovery of even more expanded international readership! THAT is very ‘Good News’ indeed! If you need a reason to read this article, learning that My Dear Shoevians live in; England, France, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands and evern RUSSIA should do the trick, eh? Read and be informed!

.

That, My Dear Shoevians, brings us to the end of this article and the end of the week’s publishing. I hope that everyone takes some time, out of your Sunday, to go back and read and view some of the wonderful work and images I shared this past week. Again, I apologize for the absence, made even longer by the down time at the primary blog location. I am back, and I have a “Sunday Funnies’ yet to publish, today.

.

I regret to inform you that this week is my ‘Quarterly Visit To L.A.’ and my primary care physician, Dr. Laurence Gorlick. This journey into L.A., and back, takes a great deal out of me. It is a journey that takes, Allen and I, more than twelve hours of transit van rides to get into Rancho Palos Verde, and back here to Orange County. I will do my best to keep up my writing schedule, I just cannot make any promises I might not keep.

.

Thank you!

.

Adieu!

A Week in Review - April 26th, 2015

.Unstable Star Eta Carinae

.

Welcome back My Dear Shoevians to The Other Shoe. First, let me apologize for the tardy nature of this article. Most weeks I, regularly, publish this weekly review on Sunday. However, this Sunday I was knee-deep in the publication and promotion of my first and best political editorial article in many months. Titled ‘Clinton-Hate Syndrome – Diagnosis and Cure’ the article outlines the dubious nature of three of the most popular ‘scandals’ to infect our national political dialogue. I say “infect” because… well, as I explain in the article I am genuinely convinced that Americans (well, a small ‘sect’ of Americans) are falling prey to a type of “linguistic virus”.

.

When infected, the virus attacks the neural pathways associated with reason and common sense. This, thereby, renders the listener incapable of discriminating propaganda from 'news'. Subjects find themselves in a highly suggestible state, so the loudest and angriest voice can overpower their critical thinking skills. This is a theory that I have been working on for a good many years and discovered during observations on Facebook and other social media. So far, I am pretty much the lone wolf with this theory, however, I am quite bereft to (otherwise) explain the actions of many intelligent and good-hearted Americans I have known for years.

.

You, My Dear Shoevians, can read this article by clinking on the link above… or here: ‘Clinton-Hate Syndrome Diagnosis and Cure’. I had really hoped to present ‘A Week in Review’ on time but found myself in the middle of a vortex of real time developments in the most recent ‘Clinton-Hate’ motivated ‘scandal’. You might know it as the ‘Clinton Cash’ scandal, so named after the unpublished book of the same name. Authro, of said work, was on ‘This Week’ on Sunday where he repeatedly admitted that he has no evidence whatsoever of any wrong doing on the part of the Clintons, but feels (regardless of the FACTS) that there “must be an investigation”.

.

Perhaps he feels this way because he knows that in an election of this magnitude the appearance of impropriety in just as damning as proof. A self-described ‘Conservative’ write, I am sure that he is fully aware that many prominent Republicans have stated their party has little chance against a Hillary Clinton run for the Presidency. This has been spoken by everyone from Newt Gingrich to Jeb Bush, in one form or another. How better to level the playing field than to smear an upstanding life-long public servant that with a dubious and unsupported (by facts) ‘cash for influence’ scandal.

.

Now, that is enough of that topic for the moment, on with ‘A Week in Review’. I am very proud to announce that, in the previous week, I manage to write, edit and publish another Five articles here at The Other Shoe. That makes two weeks running I have managed to hit my mark uninterrupted. Not so sure about the upcoming weeks, as I have several unavoidable doctor appointments and scans that I must attend. With that in mind I would like to begin our look backward over the past week of publications.

.

Without further adieu, I give you ‘A Week in Review’!

  • Sunday Funnies – Homage to Alexander R Hanning“Welcome back My Dearest Shoevians to The Other Shoe. Today, as promised, I am here to present… to honor the lifetime’s contributions of Master Alexander R. Hanning. Most of you, My Dear Shoevians, and the world first met Alex right here in an edition of ‘Sunday Funnies’. I had the privilege and honor of knowing, and loving, this great rat his entire life. Starting to research this article, and put together images of Alex at many ages, I almost lost it. I would start to cry… then weep at his passing and my loss.” My Dear Shoevians it still just slays me, each and every time I think of him… see videos of him… pictures of him… or think of him. Alexander has left a HUGE HOLE in my soul… and it pains me to no end. Gryphon is working hard to fill the void… he is very dear to me, already, and plays with me every morning without fail. This one is the hardest… since Nakita. It pains me so…

  • The Mars Report – April 20th, 2015 – “On April 16th 2015, the 957th Martian day, just days ago Curiosity past the ten kilometer (6.214 mile) mark on its trek on the Martian surface. Arriving at Pahrump Hills the rover Curiosity took an incredible panoramic image. Below we can see this panoramic image, taken by the Navcam (Navigational Camera), this shows us the sandy floored valley Curiosity must pass through next. This path will take Curiosity higher on Mount Sharp for further excavation, experimentation and some more incredible images of the Martian surface.” The publication of this edition of ‘The Mars Report’ comes hot on the heals of a major accomplishment for the Curiosity rover as it has just reached the Ten Kilometer point in its sojourn on the Martian surface. Further, I discuss the recent discovery of Nitrogen on the Martian surface and a field of veins of minerals on the surface. I you have not already read and viewed this edition, I suggest you take the link (at the beginning of this article) and check out this edition, NOW!

  • Lost in Space – Hubble’s 25th Anniversary – “Welcome back My Dear Shoevians to The Other Shoe. Today is Wednesday April 22nd, 2015 and when I started the research for this article I quickly became aware that today is the 25th Anniversary of the launch of the Hubble Space Telescope! What a glorious day to pay tribute to this wonder of the modern age, by sharing some of the most recent images captured by Hubble.” In a week filled with space-based accomplishments, this edition of ‘Lost in Space’ marked the 25th Anniversary for the Hubble Space telescope! I am very glad that I had decided to restart my blog at this perfect time. How better to restart and energize my publication than with two milestones in two separate articles series? This is a ‘Must SEE’ edition of ‘Lost in Space’ where I breakdown the work of Hubble into the three categories NASA uses to evaluate scientific achievement and progress.

  • Alive and, well… ? – Danny Update – “Below is a short video that I recorded today. I made this video to show all of you, My Dear Shoevians, that I am alive and still all in one piece. Right now, at 2:15PM PDST I am uploading the video for publication just as soon as possible. I am hoping to have this article, and the accompanying video, ready for viewing by 3:00PM PDST (that would be 5PM Central –Texas Time). Right now, it looks as though I will be able to keep this schedule.’ As explained, above, this is an article including a short personal update video I made. I was beginning to become aware of my physical limitations… still am fighting that demon!

  • ‘Clinton-Hate Syndrome’ – Diagnosis and Cure – “Today, in the paragraphs below, I will explain to everyone just how to diagnose yourself, and others, of this terrible socially transmitted disease, and (ultimately) how to treat and CURE this malady. However, before I discuss the personal symptoms of this terrible disease (the diagnosis), and the cure for ‘Clinton-Hate Syndrome’ I am going to discuss the source of this socially-transmitted’ disease. For the majority of Americans discovering the source of this terrible socially transmitted disease is easy to see.” A very unique piece, even by my standards. Whereas I post the starting article for three of the most recent ‘Clinton Scandals’, I go even further to debunk them as the partisan (hyper partisan) fact-void rhetoric that they are all proved (in the end) to be. Right before my eyes, as I researched this article, I watched as the newest ‘Clinton Scandal’ became unraveled right before my eyes. The ‘Clinton Cash’ scdanal is already being debunked by; NBC, ABC< and CBS as a partisan (poor) attempt to tie efforts by (then) Sec. Clinton to work done by the ‘Clinton Foundation’. The author of the unpublished work, ‘Clinton Cash’ openly admits to having “no real evidence of wrongdoing..” but still seeks an investigation!?!? Obviously a clear-cut case of ‘Clinton-Hate Syndrome’. Be sure to check out this article, as it contains FACTUAL EVIDENCE… and a very humorous ending. ENJOY!

.

With that My Dear Shoevians I bring this week’s edition of ‘A Week in Review’ to a close. I hope that everyone has enjoyed this week’s review, and the wonderful articles that made up its content. It is my hope to entertain, inform, and delight my readers. If, by some chance, you are educated during your visit… all the better. J

.

Now, for a little timely editorial. As I sit here putting the finishing touches on this article? I am bearing witness to the real time looting of a CVS in Baltimore, Maryland. The view is from a helicopter, a media ‘news’ chopper, and I wonder if these… ‘individuals’ are aware that their actions are being capture on video for all time? I watch as one young woman records the actions of her friends… on her cellular phone. Is she aware that, too, is a crime?

.

The repeated murder of African American men, and young men, by (predominately) white law enforcement officers is… grotesque and unthinkable. However, just how does the African American community think the sight of their young people looting A CVS… help their cause. Engender the national community to their side? Curious and curiouser.

.

Thank you!

.

Adieu!

The Rebirth and Re-Launch of The Other Shoe

[caption id="attachment_3856" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Author/Editor Danny Hanning in Rolling Hills Estates February 2015 Author/Editor Danny Hanning in Rolling Hills Estates February 2015[/caption]

.

Welcome back My Dear Readers Shoevians to The Other Shoe. This article is my first written work in, well, many months. The world just keeps moving, as it did during my hiatus. Just recently I lost my best friend and constant companion, Alexander R. Hanning. His passing shook me to my very core and left me reeling for days. Alexander had a stroke March 27th, 2015. For the next two weeks I kept him at my side, cared for his every need and fed him Ensure and baby food.

.

He really wanted to hang in there, to stay at his Daddy Daniel’s side, for as long as possible. I will talk more about Alexander, his life’s work, and his end struggle later this week in my homage. This coming Sunday I hope to publish a final ‘Sunday Funnies – Homage to Alexander R. Hanning’. I will share his final videos, which remain unpublished, his final images and the time we spent together prior to his passing. Alexander was; a source of strength, a genuine friend, an inspiration and my muse for many works. His role in my upcoming works ‘The Adventures of Princess Nadia’ will be greatly expanded due to his larger-than-life role in my real life.

.

After much soul searching and discussions with Allen, I have brought my battle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma to an end. I have put my oncologist on the backburner and scheduled my next office visit for October. For all of you, My Dearest Shoevians, which have not faced cancer, the battle takes everything out of your life. We lost thousands of dollars of potential income, right at our birthdays, our 27th anniversary, and the Holiday season. Time, events, and treasure I will never regain, and is sorely lost.

.

Writing this, just now, I am seeing (for the first time) my level of personal loss. Oh, don’t get me wrong… I have known my loss. My lost income, my lost time and my loss of life and love. It is just, well… writing about it here, today, brings me face-to-face with my losses. Today, I end one of these losses by returning to writing and publishing here at The Other Shoe.

.

Now, My Dearest Shoevians, I am going to be completely honest upfront. I will not be capable of producing the amount of content, articles, here at the beginning. First, I am going to undertake a search for a new ‘look’ for the blog. The site at Word Press will remain the same for the time being. So, this change will just take place at the Blog.com location. I am looking to rekindle the Shoevians that were/are my regular readers. However, I am looking to expand my readership with any/all means possible. What you can look forward to?

.

You can look forward to; ‘The Mars Report’, ‘Lost in Space’, Sunday Funnies’ (changed due to the loss of Alexander R. Hanning), A Week in Review’ and “News From around the World’. I have several new article series that I plan on rolling out, over the next several weeks. Of course politics and the upcoming Presidential election will be featured over the coming months. For those that think they ‘know’ who I will write in favor and who I will choose to trash? “You don’t know!”

.

This is a very important election for many reasons. The most important for our nation is Income Inequality! The candidate that (honestly) champions genuine income redistribution (as suggested by Pope Francis) will curry my favor. We, Americans/America, are deeply entrenched in an “economy of exclusion”[1]. Pope Francis, recently, m et with executives from United Nations Agencies, Funds and Programmes. Here is an excerpt from their discussions:

.

“Future Sustainable Development Goals must therefore be formulated and carried out with generosity and courage, so that they can have a real impact on the structural causes of poverty and hunger, attain more substantial results in protecting the environment, ensure dignified and productive labor for all, and provide appropriate protection for the family, which is an essential element in sustainable human and social development. Specifically, this involves challenging all forms of injustice and resisting the “economy of exclusion”, the “throwaway culture” and the “culture of death” which nowadays sadly risk becoming passively accepted.”[2]

.

I strongly feel that, regardless of your political leaning, income inequalitypovertyrampant hunger among CHILDREN in America… and the repeated financial attacks (by Congressional Republicans) on; Food Stamps, Social Security Benefits, Social Security Disability Benefits, Veterans Benefits, Homeless Veterans Benefits, and like programs. America must belly-up to the table and honestly discuss the obvious attack(s) on the; poor, seniors, and the disabled.

.

So, My Dear Shoevians, I am publishing this article today (April 13, 2015) as a precursor to the rebirth and Re-Launch of The Other Shoe! I will not shy away form the issues of our time. I will not pull any punches, and I will do my level best to DOCUMENT every fact and factoid I will share over the months and years to come. As always, I put honesty above popularity and the credibility of my blog above traffic reports.

.

So, if you are just looking for some one0sided political fodder for your Facebook postings? The Other Shoe is not your place to read. However, if you have grown tired of obvious fodder and pandering. If you are not just another rhetoric parrot then, maybe… just maybe The Other Shoe is the place for you.

.

I look forward to seeing you all here as I work (hard) to return The Other Shoe to its former glory, and traffic. I just know that these ‘times’ will give me fodder. I am just hoping that my health, my strength and my resolve can match the intensity of these times.

.

Thank you!

.

Adieu!

Notes From Behind the Keyboard - February 6th, 2015

.

[caption id="attachment_3778" align="aligncenter" width="630"]Danny Hanning Danny Rolling Hills Estates[/caption]

.

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. My goodness has it really been over a month since I last posted? Yes, it has! For most of you, My Dear Readers, this comes as no surprise. My battle with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma has taken the last little bit of strength from my body. Leaving me quite bereft of the physical abilities needed to write and publish. Normally, I would apologize for this extended hiatus, today... I am not. My adventure with chemotherapy has come to an end.

.

Unfortunately the chemotherapy did not have the desired results. From what I am told, these drugs did not “knock back...” my disease as much as my oncologist has anticipated. Therefore, we have started a round of radiation therapy. This will last another couple of weeks, and then I will be finished with all the toxic... exposures. With any luck, once I am finished with this current treatment I will be relatively free of this cancer.

.

My Dearest Readers, I have many videos from the past several months. Videos of me heading to treatment, videos of me during treatment, and a few of Prince Alexander playing and being my little boy rat. It is my desire and intent that, once I am recovered from these treatments, I will be sharing all of these videos with all of you. My Dear Readers, I genuinely long to return to a regular and full writing and publishing schedule.

.

Do you all remember what that was like? Five to seven articles every single week. A weekly edition of 'The Mars Report' with all the newest information and images from Curiosity and the Opportunity rovers. Weekly editions of 'News From Around the World' with all the news that does not appear on the major media outlets web sites. Weekly editions of 'The Horror in Smithville' with the latest antics of Timmy and Archer if their fight against 'The Tall Man' and the upcoming adventure @ the Harvest Carnival. Weekly editions of 'A Week in Review' and the antics of Prince Alexander in 'Sunday Funnies'!

.

I have not forgotten all the wonderful articles and all the wonderful experiences that we shared here at The Other Shoe. Nor have I forgotten how wonderful it is to write and entertain all of you, My Dearest Readers, from all over this great planet Earth. I really had no idea just how bad these chemotherapy treatments would slam my health. I really had no idea just how much these treatments would negatively effect my neruopathy in my left hand. I really ad no idea just now bad things would be, or I just might have opted out of getting these treatments.

.

All I can hope is that you, My Dearest Readers, will come back once I start writing and publishing, again. For I have dearly missed all of you... deeply. I would like to promise that this weekend I will return to my regular writing and publishing schedule. However, I have never lied to you, My Dearest Readers, before and I am not about to start now. Terrible as it may be? Just writing these two pages has taken a great deal of energy and focus. Looking back? I really am amazed at the amount of content I generated all by myself. Over just under five years I wrote, edited, and published nearly SIX HUNDERED articles for your reading pleasure.

.

When I consider all the effort that goes into just one edition of 'The Mars Report'! Downloading images for the article, writing the article and embedding the images, uploading the images on to both blog servers, uploading the text, and then integrating the images (and adding descriptions) for as many as ten images. Honestly, it would take me up to four to six hours just to get from start to finish for just one edition of 'The Mars Report'. It was a labor of love, My Dearest Readers. A love of all things extraterrestrial, and a love of all of you My Dearest Readers.

.

Well, that brings us to the end of this edition of Notes From Behind the Keyboard'. I do hope that all of you, My Dearest Readers, keep checking back and drop by often. With all luck and a bit of extra strength, you can look forward to me adopting a partial publication schedule by the end of February, or the first of March. I know that, sometime in March, my oncologist will start (again) the process of 'Staging my Cancer'. That will mean PET scans, blood tests, and most likely another bone marrow test.

.

As always I will keep all of you, My Dearest Readers, fully informed on the results of these tests. Fear not, even if I loose this battle with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma? I will continue to write and publish so long as I have life. It is my heartfelt desire to complete 'The Horror in Smithville'. I already have the final chapters in my head... and the bloody and violent conclusion... it just is not on paper or saved on a hard drive. It is my deeply felt desire to start, and finish, 'The Adventures of Princess Nadia', too. At least the first book of the series. If I have my way, I will manage to write (and get published) all FIVE books that will make up her story.

.

In closing, I would like to take a moment to say “Thank you!” to; Ian Cottier, Jason Kleppinger, and James Coate for their kind support during the holidays past. Without their kindness and support I would not have had the genuine thrill of a Christmas Dinner or ANY presents under the tree. Times are tough all over, and I fully understand. I am just thrilled to have friends, and My Dearest Readers, that care enough... and trust me enough to make donations to help me find some small happiness. I am hopeful that when I get my novel works finished... that I find a receptive publisher. That I can get my works published... and never have to ask for the help or assistance of friends, readers, or family... ever again. I just hope that I make it that far. :)

.

Adieu!

.

Thank you!

Texas 2014 a Year in Review

[caption id="attachment_3831" align="aligncenter" width="450"]Texas Texas[/caption]

.

Welcome back My Dear Shoevians to The Other Shoe. Yes, here I am again today. I know that this is highly unusual, and I am really pressing my ability to sit up and write… but THIS! Well, what I am about to share with you was posted on Facebook by a friend of mine. His name is Pat Kendrick and he still lives in Texas, in Sugarland. In the five years, well in March five years, of this blog I have never published anything posted on Facebook.

.

I have never been allowed the privilege on showcasing their words here on my blog at The Other Shoe. Today that changed! Today I have been given the esteem privilege of publishing for you, My Dear Shoevians, of sharing some very powerful words directly from the heat of the Great State of Texas. Finally, I would like to say “Thank you!” to Pat Kendrick for the honor of sharing his incredible words… his insight… his vision.

.

Now, without further adieu, I give you… Texas 2014 a Year in Review” by Pat Kendrick:

.

Texas 2014 year in review: Governor Rick Perry indicted on 2 felonies.
Attorney General Gregg Abbott sues Obama twice. Once over Obamacare, once of immigration, Ted Cruz is still a US Senator from Texas, Abbott elected Governor, Texans turns their backs with hate toward kids trying to escape tyranny and terror, no Medicaid expansion leaving 10,000,000 Texans uninsured, 49th in education, 1st in minimum wage jobs, a new Lt Gov who led the charge to fire 11,000 teachers and thi...nks ISIS is our greatest threat in Texas, Kim Kardashian got married twice or 2 more than the number of Texans who died in the fake Ebola scare, open carry let people with penis envy carry AK 47s around town and in stores, voter ID laws restricted voting though no evidence at voter fraud exists, Texas women have their constitutional right of choice virtually eliminated by draconian laws, Louis Ghomert, Joe Barton, and Blake Farenthold are actually Congressmen from Texas, and our textbooks now list Moses as a founding father and slavery not such a bad deal. A glorious year in Texas politics. I'd say 2015 has to be better but I'm scared I'll be wrong
.

.

And people wonder ‘why’ I won’t go back to Texas, even to visit. Yet, My Dear Shoevians, I cannot help but feel that I have… somehow… abandoned my fellow Texans to the butchers. That is how it feels to me… inside. I LOVED growing up in Texas… I LOVED being a Texan. That is… until… things changed.

.

Now, the whole world can clearly see that not all Texans walk in lock step. That there are many Texans that do not approve of the dire and draconian changes happening in my home state. laugh I don’t know how long it has been since I referred to Texas as my home state. I haven’t visited in nearly thirty years. It is the state of my birth. Yet, I am ashamed. If you have read Mr. Pat Kendrick’s words, above, and you were from Texas, wouldn’t you be ashamed?

.

Again I would like to express my heartfelt thanks for Pat Kendrick for the privilege of sharing his words with all of you, My Dear Shoevians.

.

I have become... suddenly.. very tired. I knew that I was pushing too hard… and I still have to copy/paste to two blogs… proof and publish.

.

Adieu!

.

Thank you!

The Battle Rages On...

.

Welcome back My Dear Shoevians to The Other Shoe. First, I would like to wish everyone a “Happy New Year!” I don’t know about you, My Dear Shoevians, but I really needed a ‘new’ year. 2014 had become filled with; pain, suffering, sadness, darkness, confusion, and an overwhelming sense of depression. 2014 brought cancer from something that plague my; father’s father, my father, and my brothers. To something tactical and very real to me. Good riddance to 2014!

.

Next, I would like to share two ‘new’ events in my life and the life of this blog. First, it is my unfortunate task to inform all of you, My Dear Shoevians, that my chemotherapy was not as “effective” at battling my cancer as my oncologist had hoped. The gains were minimal, and the effects of the treatment on my body, too severe. Therefore, within the next month of so, I will be moving from chemotherapy to radiation therapy. Anyone that has followed a family member through his or her fight with cancer knows what this treatment entails.

.

This move concerns me, as does the bodily harm of the chemotherapy. I am concerned about the radiation burns that will appear on my face. Yes, the area they will ‘nuke’ will be my lower right jaw and neck. For a time, I will have a large discolored area. I know it will pass, just like my hair “will grow back”. Knowing and seeing are two very different things. However, I will soldier onward in hopes that the combination of these two different treatment types will give me a great chance of not having to wage this war again, soon.

.

Second, I have not been able to keep up the articles at this blog like I had previously, and like I have wanted. This concerns me greatly, and I am at a loss as to find… assistance. However, with the coming of the ‘New Year’ I will redouble my efforts to make more regular postings. Much is happening with NASA’s Mars Exploration project, and I would very much like to keep all of you abreast. I assure you, My Dear Shoevians, that I will make every effort to keep you abreast of these historic events.

.

Since I last posted, I have undergone another chemotherapy treatment. Below is a short video I made during that treatment. You know, My Dear Shoevians, I had ‘good intentions’ when this battle started. Intentions to make this blog a journal of my journey through my cancer treatment. Boy did I underestimate the toll these treatments would demand! Now understand that this chemotherapy is not happening to someone in ‘good health’. Not to someone that jogs frequently, or goes to the gym on a regular basis. My body and health were already compromised by my ongoing health issues.

.

For me, this was more like kitting a guy when he is already down… with a baseball bat. I am not ‘complaining’ I am just giving everyone some perspective. Some understanding of just why I have been unable to keep the commitments I have made to you, My Dear Shoevians. Now I am going to give you a little insight into just what you might also be reading, here at The Other Shoe, in the upcoming editions.

.

March tenth 2010 I wrote and published my first article for this blog. I started this blog, as I have told you My Dear Shoevians, to be a small counterweight to the overwhelming deluge of negative and harmful media and dialogue coming from the far extremes of the conservative movement. Truthfully, I have been remiss in this original goal. I stepped back from political writing and publications in an effort to halt the alienation of some of my readers. Some of my readers, in the South and in Texas, had become deeply disturbed by my writings. Then, they tied their support for me… for my many ‘causes’ to a kind of control over what I wrote and published.

.

I should never have allowed this to happen. What is done, is done, and cannot be undone. However, at the risk of never gain receiving help of assistance… never again knowing the kindness of these ‘others’… and standing alone against a sea of troubles. I will begin a series of articles, here at The Other Shoe, that shines a light on the path ahead. We are not the first modern society to place its feet on a path without; reason, knowledge, or logic. That is what I call it when a very vocal group of zealots want to replace the science of evolution with the illogical and unscientific ramblings of ‘Creationism’.

.

That, My Dear Shoevians, is just the tip of the iceberg that has frozen reason in political dialogue and discourse in America. Over the next few weeks I will work to open eyes… to share perspective… to draw political parallels… to bring reason back to American political dialogue. Yes… that is a huge goal… but I am a gay man that made it thought the 80’s death march of HIV/AiDS. We buried thousands of our loved ones… before anyone paid attention. I made it thought that… I made it though a fracking typewriter dropping on my head… I made it through loosing my MOBILITY!

.

If you, My Dear Shoevians, think I will shy away from this battle? Then the upcoming weeks and months will change your mind!

.

Happy New Year!

.

Adieu!

.

Thank you!

To Be, or NOT to Be...

[caption id="attachment_3778" align="aligncenter" width="225"]Danny Hanning Danny Rolling Hills Estates[/caption]

.

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. My Dearest Readers I come here today to make… an… admission. I come here, to this blog… this blog with over Six Hundred Articles… this blog that is over four years old and has over six hundred articles… to make an admission. On March 10th, 2010 I, Daniel Hanning, created this blog The Other Shoe (as in ‘waiting for The Other Shoe to drop) for a singular primary reason. Oh, there were a lot of reasons I started this blog, My Dear Readers. I had, recently, found out that I would never walk the same… I would be in pain… for the rest of my life… I had stories to tell, that lived in my heart and mind. There were a lot of secondary and tertiary reasons, My Dear Readers, for me starting this blog. But, there was only ONE primary reason I started this blog.

.

AMERICA. My Dearest Readers there was only ONE primary reason that, on March 10th 2010, I started this blog. I was gravely concerned about America. To be more specific, I was gravely concerned about the political dialogue here in America. Extrapolating, I was gravely concerned about the tone of political dialogue in America. I was gravely concerned at the immediate tone of political dialogue in America could/would do severe and irreversible damage to our fragile Republic. Politics.

.

YES, My Dearest Readers, the tone of the political dialogue following the election of President Barrack Obama had created a genuine concern. I had a genuine concern of the (possible) irreversible damage to our fragile Republic. I created The Other Shoe as a counter weight to the, often vicious and hateful, political dialogue that dominated some of our national media outlets. My Dearest Readers, I created this blog in the hopes that I could possibly help to create an alternative to the growing; negative, personally vicious, and often hateful hyperbolic rhetoric that (appeared) to be the cornerstone of some of our national media outlets.

.

Truthfully, My Dearest Readers, I did not come into this blog without previous experience in; writing, publishing and editing. Prior to starting this blog I had spent several years as the Political Editor for the web site ‘All Out Games’. ‘All Out Games’ was (to be) an international web site for gay gamers. Yes, that is correct. I had joined a group of young men that wanted to create a web presence for gay gamers, from all over the world. To create place where gay gamers, from all over the world, could come to and (without prejudice or hatred) discuss gaming… and what it was to be a ‘Gay Gamer’. At this time World of Warcraft would not allow a “Gay Guild” in game. When playing multiplayer online games, one of the sure ways to get kicked form a game would be to mention you are gay… or act or sound ‘gay’.

.

We were the only web site, in the world, designed and created (from the ground up) for that sole purpose. After, only, a few weeks of posting to threads? The founder and administrator of the web site sent me a personal message asking me if I want to write articles for this web site. After only a few weeks of that, he asked me to be the ‘Editor in Chief’ for the sections; ‘Personal Computers’ (meant for tips on maintaining and upgrading PC hardware/software), PC game Reviews, and … … … POLITICS. For the next 18 months I did my very best to; write engaging and informative reviews (that included in-game screenshots and short videos), wrote articles about how to maintain the personal computers and update/upgrade their hardware and software, and I wrote political articles.

.

All Out Games’ was my very first experience writing political articles for online publication. After, about, two years I left ‘All Out Games’. I did not leave, the staff, of that wonderful and supportive web site for any reason that most might imagine. I did leave the staff because they (the owner/Admin) totally changed format(s). It went from ‘All Out Games’ a web site for gay gamers (Mostly PC games, we didn’t really cover consoles)… went from gay gaming TO… … … ‘Homo Mojo’ a web site devoted to… … … the review and promotion of… … … gay videos.

.

Now the admin, the writing staff, a majority of the regulars, and the group of FoE’(s) [Friends of Enzo] begged me to stay on and keep writing reviews. Oh, back then I wrote and published under the moniker ‘Enzo Matrix’. It had been my handle in most online games and in World of Warcraft, too. There was a large outcry, from the readers and even most of the writing/editing staff, for me to stay on and “keep up your great work”. I did think and consider my course of action very seriously, My Dear Readers. However, what I just could not get past was just how (people like you, My Dear Readers) would ‘see’ me after publishing on a web site that just reviewed and promoted gay pornographic movies. Remember, this was in 2005, and attitudes about pornographic movies were not the same as today.

.

My Dearest Readers I really wanted (desired) to (one day) be taken seriously as a writer of political articles. I had genuine concerns that, IF, I spent any length of time writing and publishing reviews of gay pornographic videos it would greatly damage my chances of being taken seriously as a political writer. I stayed on, as a web site member, for several weeks. I watched, the change, read the work of the writers and carefully considered my course of action. Remember, My Dearest Readers, that this was my very first ‘paying gig’ as a writer. As well, I had a rather large group of followers that very much enjoyed my work.

.

Not only would I loose a paying gig, I would (likely) loose all my followers, a viable outlet for my political works, and the only real replacement for the work I was no longer able to do. It was a very difficult decision and I labored over this decision for more than a week. In the end, I realized that writing reviews and promotional material for gay pornographic materials and videos just was not; (1) What I wanted to do, (2) Was more likely to harm my future prospects than improve them {finally} (3) I had never really been a fan of… enjoyed… spent time watching gay pornographic videos or magazines or anything. It really was ‘outside my limits of experiences. To this day I feel I made the correct decision and I have no regrets.

.

This all took place the later part of 2005, and it ended up being the correct decision for more than the reasons I outlined so far. Because, it was in 2005 that my state disability payments maxed out and my application for Social Security Disability reached its second rejection. It was in 2005 that I went about hiring an disability attorney, going to a lot more doctor appointments, a lot more X-rays and scans, and they discovered that even more was wrong with my cervical spine. For the next five years I did not publish but I continued to write, on my computer, and I played games as much as my pain allowed.

.

My Dearest Readers, when I started this article (Sunday night 12/14/14) I honestly thought I would finish this tale in just a few pages and just one night. WRONG! Now, rather than try to boil this article down to just a few pages more and publish a poorly written work? I have decided to make this ‘Part One’ of a multiple part article. Edit this, tonight, and publish it for promotion tomorrow, Monday. Then, tomorrow, I will do my very best to get to the meat of my story and this article for publication on Tuesday or Wednesday. When it is published will greatly depend on how my chemotherapy goes and how my body reacts.

.

I am going to shoot for a Wednesday publication, My Dear Readers. That way I will have articles published on; Monday, Wednesday and Friday! Three articles in one week is a good and reasonable publication goal. It is not my previous goal of six to seven articles in a seven day period. However, it is much better than my (for the past month or so) one article every seven days. I like this new publication schedule because it is substantially more writing published in seven days, but it is a goal that I feel I can meet!

.

So, I am going to go back and edit/review my work. Then I am going to upload this article to my blog(s), embed some images and schedule it for publication for Monday morning! Tehn, tomorrow, as I am getting prepared for Tuesday’s chemotherapy I can finish writing the article. Label it is ‘Part Two’, edit/review, upload, embed and schedule for publication on Tuesday or Wednesday. Then I have just to create and write/edit/publish one more article for Friday and I have greatly increased my publication output!

.

Now, My Dear Readers, let’s remember that ‘when we left off’ I had left ‘All Out Games’ and was about to win my Social Security Disability and Medicare benefits. Winning these benefits would allow me the resources to purchase an all new computer and ‘Word’ software to write. These two factors would really empower me to reach out and grab ‘The Other Shoe’!

.

My Dear Readers I am going to do my best to get you all caught up on the articles about my last TWO chemotherapy treatments, my (November) visit to my primary care physician, and all other medical appointments… by the end of this year. From right before my initial diagnosis I promised to keep all of you, My Dear Readers, in-the-loop. Keep you all up-to-date with my diagnosis, my treatment and the outcome of my treatment. I have no intention to go back on that promise, I know that a good many of you are genuinely interested in my care and treatment and I want to honor your caring.

.

I hope that everyone has enjoyed reading, today, and that you come back to read the conclusion of this article series. Tuesday I will be at the Transfusion Center for my chemotherapy. I do not know if I will be on Facebook, but I am pretty sure that I will not publish on Tuesday… That is… unless, of course, I completely finish writing/editing/uploading/embedding tomorrow.

.

Adieu!

.

Thank YOU!

News From Around the World - September 25th, 2014

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="400"]News From Around the World News From Around the World[/caption]

.

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. Welcome to a revival of ‘News From Around the World’. I haven’t wrote or published any editions of this series for some time. However, I was looking at some news stories, earlier today, and I decided that now was the time for me to revive this series. Now, there are not going to be a lot of stories, in this first edition, but I am hoping to have more with each following edition.

.

This is the story that caught my eye, and persuaded me to write and publish this series, again. With all the troubles in our world, from ISIS… ISIL or whatever they call themselves this week, to the growing discontent of America’s minimum wage workers, to the ever advancing effects of ‘Climate Change’. Our world appears to be a planet stuck in some kind of galactic quicksand. Here is the symptom that has me the most concerned, this week. The DJIA lost over 200 points today! As I am writing this article I see that the DJIA has lost 233.77 points equal to about 1.34% of DJIA total volume.

.

"To us that would signal a threat from the Kremlin that the Russian-U.S.-Europe conflict economically might take a turn for the worse, should it be enacted. They are signaling that unless concessions or negotiations take place, we're prepared to do this," said Jim Russell, senior equity strategist for US Bank Wealth Management. "It's a turn for the worse, it's an unwelcome signaling from the Kremlin that this, a limitation on capital flows to Russia, is a possibility. Maybe the markets are reacting to it," Russell said.”[1].

.

This drop comes right on the heals of the S&P 500 jumping the most it has in the past month. Aye, there’s the rub! It might just be me, but when we get “largest drop since___” right after (24 hours earlier) “single one month increase in years…”? Well, that is what I call ‘instability’. Instability in the financial markets. Now where have I heard that before? Oh, yes! I remember now… 2008 – 2011! And, you want to know what doesn’t help? All the nay Sayers and portents of doom coming from a particular network and its affiliates. As I learned when I was a young boy, ‘perception dictates reality’. So, let’s keep track of the pulse of the markets and I will get back to you about this tid-bit of news in October.

.

Jumping over to the tech news, we can see that Apple is just not having a good month. YES they did sell something on the order of ten million new iPhones. Then, they (Apple) released a new OS update (iOS 8.0.1) and all the sudden everybody to:

.

The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus users who downloaded the iOS update found themselves unable to access cell service or use the TouchID fingerprint sensor,”[2]

.

Apple immediately pulled the 8.0.1 update. Here’s the real BITE Apple emailed its users that “"Affected users can reinstall iOS 8 through iTunes,"[3]Which, I mean I don’t know because I do not have any Apple products, but if you just signed a new two year agreement and/or plopped down a big stack o’cash? That is not what I would want to hear from the company I just married my cellular service to for the next two years! Great thing? It ONLY effected the ten million users that just bought iPhone 6!

.

Now, as if that is not enough ‘Bad News’ for Apple, seems they have a bug (“Worse than “Hartbleed”) pointed right at its customers. It is called “Bash” and it messed with; Linux, Unix, and MciOS! Here’s the scoop on “Bash”:

.

A major security flaw that could affect Apple's Mac and Linux operating systems has been discovered, with security experts claiming it to be more dangerous than the recent Heartbleed bug. The Shellshock bug creates a vulnerability in "Bash" — software that controls the command prompt on many computers running the Unix operating system. The Shellshock vulnerability could allow hackers to insert malicious pieces of code from a remote location and potentially take control of a machine. "The difference in significance is that with Heartbleed, what somebody could grab credentials of a user and do what they wanted, but in this case, if somebody is vulnerable, it potentially allows someone to get full system control of a victim's system,…”[4]

.

That was a quote from David Emm senior security research at Kaspersky lab. Kaspersky has been outing Apple for its security faults and holes for the past three years. Just last year, at a computer security conference in Japan Kaspershy founder Eugene Kaspersky blasted Apple for being “A decade behind Windows OS when it comes to system security…”[5]

.

So, in just a matter of a week Apple has ten million brand new iPhone 6 users unable to make phone calls, a brand new bug “Bash” knocking a hole in the Apple iOS, and there lack of focus on system security plaguing them in the tech world. I just cannot be thankful enough that I do not have an iPhone, and iPad, or any other ‘i’ device. However, My Dear Readers, if you do have and use Apple? All I can tell you is that I think there is a Kaspersky product for use on Apple iOS. If there is? BUY IT… INSTALL IT… USE IT! I would hate for any of My Dear Readers have the identity stolen, the bank account drained, or their iPhone high jacked by some high schooler in Russia! I have nothing against ‘i’ products, I just learned and have worked on PC hardware and software since the late 80’s and I just love using a OS I know.

.

Now from ‘i’ stuff and Apple to… light bulbs! Well ‘Smart Light Bulbs’. I just caught an article on this all new ‘Smart’ light bulb being developed by “Ex-Tesla and NASA Engineers…”[6] This is not just some gimmick to sell more compact fluorescent bulbs. This is an actual ‘Smart’ device that:

.

work autonomously, both by adjusting light output based on sunlight and by learning and adapting to its owners’ household habits.”[7]

.

As device creator, Neil Joesph, see it this is the next step up from Philips Hue and the LIFX. The product is named Alba (alba is Italian for sunrise). Alba uses embedded diodes that work as sensors for; movement, ambient light, occupancy and can even (over time) adapt to the usage patterns of the user. Remembering things like, when a person gets up each day, when they are out of the home for work, and when they arrive back home from work. They speculate that these ‘Smart’ bulbs could cut energy usage by 60% to 80%! Now, that translates to paying for 80% less electricity for lighting you home! That could be tremendous savings in larger homes and businesses. This could be the wave of the future of light sources.

.

Finally, we go to Japan for the… well the worst of all the stories I have shared with you, My Dear Readers, today. In the Japanese prefecture of Wakayama… the yearly… dolphin hunting has begun. This is just (for me) a fancy… and culturally allowed yearly slaughter of dolphins!

.

Local fishermen are permitted by the Wakayama prefectural government to hunt an annual quota of nearly 2,000 dolphins and porpoises from seven different species, in accordance with what the government says is traditional practice.[8]

.

Now, My Dear Readers, I cannot even put into words just how much this sickens me. That, each and every year, these people have “a quota of 2,000 dolphins, and porpoises from several different species…”[9] I understand that this is part of a historic ritual, and rite of season that has gone on for hundreds of years prior to understanding what we now do about dolphins and porpoises. However, isn’t it the duty of man to apply knowledge to ancient and barbaric practices… and be learning, end them? Is not that they way mankind grows and develops? Are we not, by allowing and even condoning this activity, hampering the social growth of this community?

.

By allowing this to happen, by looking the other way… are we not damning these people to being backward and barbaric? Is it not the responsibility of the larger international community to temper behavior with knowledge? It seems to me, that by allowing this sick and barbaric practice to continue we are relegating these communities to a ‘social Dark Ages’. That it is our responsibility as international neighbors to make sure that sick and barbaric practices, like this one, are ended? Not only for the benefit of the animals, but for the social growth and responsibility of the people.

.

Honestly, there is just no ‘Good Reason’ to do this. There is nothing that they ‘get’ from porpoises and dolphins (nutritional wise) that they cannot get from other foods or nutritional supplements. Let me put it another way. Let’s say suddenly we find out that turkeys are highly evolved animals. That they have the potential for language and interspecies communication. I would be The First Son-of-a-gun to STOP eating turkeys! Now, My Dear Readers, I just LOVE turkey meat. Especially the dark meat, right? However, if I were to find out that these turkeys were just as smart as dolphins. Had the capability of language just like dolphins… and started looking as cute as dolphins… (OK, drop the last one there). I seriously would be the first in line to STOP EATING TURKEYS!

.

So, again, WHY are we giving the Japanese communities a pass on killing these sentient creatures? If I had the money… the ability to travel… and someone to help me. I would go there and throw myself between these barbarians and the dolphins! Period!

.

Well now, My Dear Readers, that brings us to the end of this revival of ‘News From around the World’ here at The Other Shoe. As most of you are aware, I am running a running campaign at Indiegogo to help me with the mounting costs of battling my cancer. Danny’s Cancer Treatment Fund at Indiegogo is now in its FINAL WEEK! That’s right only seven more days for me to raise as much money as I can! I hate to be so brutally honest, but I am a ‘man on a mission’. A mission to raise money to help me with; transportation costs, pharmacy costs, treatment costs, and home care costs.

.

I only hope that you, My Dear Readers, take a moment to two and look at the campaign web site. Read some of the materials. Look at some of the images and scans pics. The give so that I might live cancer free, someday. I am working as hard as I can. Often writing and publishing TWO ARTICLES A DAY! I would not ask if this were not a life-or-death situation. Please understand that I do need your help.

.

Adieu!

.

Thank YOU!
