Sunday Funnies - July 26th - Mohawk Rat - Redux

Gryphon Sharing Danny's Soda! Gryphon Sharing Danny's Soda!
 .

Welcome back My Dear Shoevians to a Redux of a recent 'Sunday Funnies' titled 'Mohawk Rat!'. In this video we can see Gryphon combing the fur on his head, after a recent bath. It looks like he is styling his fur into a Mohawk haircut. This will be the very first 'Sunday Funnies' to appear at my all new blog location. Hope everyone is having an enjoyable weekend. Have a great Sunday!

.                 Welcome back My Dear Shoevians to The Other Shoe. Today is Sunday, so that means it is time for our weekly series 'Sunday Funnies'! This week we have another appearance by our newest star my little furry buddy Gryphon D. Hanning! I cannot begin to tell you all, My Dear Shoevians, just how much it means to me to have another furry little buddy. My house is just not a home without a little fancy rat scampering around, playing in the morning, sleeping in my lap in the afternoon, and watching TV with me in the evenings. . In this video I have actually captured a rat-habit that I have watched for many decades, but failed to get on video until now. Yes, I bathe my Fancy Rats. I bathe them in my bathtub and use my Panteen for Color Treated Hair. If it is good enough for me, then it is good enough for them! This way they smell that they have the very same odor was their fathers. This goes a long way to assist with familial bonding with Fancy rats. . Once they are out of the tub... and pouted a little... given the customary dirty looks to the daddy that bathed them... they go about; fluffing, grooming and arranging their fur the way they prefer. One of these process I call... Mohawking. This is the process of grooming their hair (the fur on the top of their heads) into a Mohawk! It is really quite amusing and entertaining! While I have watched it, as I stated before, for many decades, this is the very first time I have managed to get the process on video! I hope that you get a kick out of this, as much as I do! . ENJOY!

Sunday Funnies - May 10th, 2015

.

Welcome back My Dear Shoevians to The Other Shoe. After a long, and unavoidable, absence I have returned just in time to share another edition of ‘Sunday Funnies’ with Gryphon D. Hanning. First, a little explanation of my absence for the past several days. At first I was taking some much needed ‘downtime’, however, since Thursday I have been unable to work on my primary blog location. This happens, from time to time, at the blog location at blog dot com. Rather than have a huge backlog of articles to cross publish, once the primary location comes back, I decided to wait and publish when I can do it at both locations at once.

.

Today, Sunday May 10th, I find that my primary blog is back! Now, I am going to get the ‘Traffic Report’ (already posted at Word Press) published at blog dot com, then I will publish this article at both locations. It is unfortunate that this happens all to often. I have, often, wished for the finances to have my own web site for my blog, making it so that I can publish whenever I like.

.

On with the show! Today we have another video starring Gryphon D. Hanning. This is his second video since coming to live with me. Just so you know I have two more videos already shot and uploaded, for future editions of ‘Sunday Funnies’!

.

SO, without further adieu, I give you Gryphon’s First Bath!

A Week in Review - May 10th, 2015

.

Welcome back My Dear Shoevians to The Other Shoe. I have to openly admit, this week was fraught with pain and problems! Mid-week I was struck with some terrific pain, all through my neck and into my arms and head. I tried sleeping it away, I tried soaking it away and all to no avail. Finally, I just settled in for a long hard ride and decided to do as little as I could around the house… … … and to let the blogs… sit. THAT was a very difficult decision, My Dear Shoevians.

.

After a seven month absence I was seeing traffic numbers, for a week’s time, up to One Hundred Nineteen!!! That translates to a yearly traffic of well over SIX THOUSAND!!!!! That is some serious traffic numbers to take to a publisher… with a truly original and touching novel in hand. It wasn’t easy but I took Tuesday and Wednesday off. I re-published my Hubble’s 25th Anniversary’ on Wednesday, then it happened.

.

This happens every six to eight months, at my location at blog dot com, the whole bloody web site just crashes! So, I wait and wait and wait. GONE for three days! I did not ‘see’ my primary blog location for three days, until today! So, here I am trying my hardest to play catch-up with the missed publication of the ‘Traffic Reports’ band now this ‘A Week in Review’. Now, I am tired and hurting all over again. But this will pass. I have to manage to finish this weekly review, and then publish ‘Sunday Funnies’ before it is no longer Sunday!

.

So, without further adieu, I give you ‘A Week in Review – May 10th, 2015’!

  • Sunday Funnies – Gryphon’s Premiere! – “Welcome back My Dear Shoevians to The Other Shoe. Today is a extra special edition of ‘Sunday Funnies’! Today I would like to ask you, My Dear Shoevians, to join me in Welcoming Gryphon D. Hannning (click on the hyperlink to go to Gryphon’s Facebook Page!) to this storied article series. As most of you are aware… … … Alexander R. Hanning passed away, several weeks ago, after a long battle with failing health. I made him as comfortable as possible, prepared all his favorite foods, and held him 24/7 for his comfort. He was loved deeply, and will be even more deeply missed. Last edition of ‘Sunday Funnies’ was a homage to Alexander.” This, My Dear Shoevians, was a very difficult article for me to write and publish. You see, it was an end, of sorts. An end to the era of Alexander R. Hanning as the star of ‘Sunday Funnies’ and the beginning of an all new era of Gryphon D. Hannning as the new star. I never do well with endings… of anything, but especially of the furry little ones I come to care for and love. There will never be a day… a time when I stop thinking of Alexander. He had that big an impact on my life, my work, my soul. It was Alexander that was at my side when I was diagnosed with cancer. It was Alexander that was at my side when I came home after chemotherapy. It was Alexander that stayed by my side when I got sick, and was there no matter what happened. However, this article was the premiere for another furry friend, Gryphon D. Hannning. This is Gryphon’s premiere video and premiere edition of ‘Sunday Funnies’. I hope that everyone stopped by to enjoy his premiere and his antics. Enjoy!

  • The Mars Report – May 4th, 2015 – “Welcome back My Dear Shoevians to The Other Shoe. Today marks the beginning of my third week back at; researching, writing, editing and publishing here at The Other Shoe. That is an important milestone for me, as just a few months ago (about mid-way through my chemotherapy treatments) I wondered if I would ever return to writing and publishing again. Well, not at all, what I mean is I doubted that I would ever again publish on a regular schedule again. Now, here I am two weeks past and over a dozen articles under my belt since my ‘The Rebirth and Re-Launch of The Other Shoe’ article of April 13th, 2015.” It was this Gargantuan edition of ‘The Mars Report’ that I think put me over the edge and into a world of hurt. The singles largest edition, with the most images, the most conetnet and the most science ever! If you haven’t looked at this edition, you should! Enjoy!

  • Lost in Space – Hubble’s 25th – Redux – “So good, worth republishing today! I’m taking a day of R&R, here’s a wonderful celebration of Hubble’s 25th anniversary. Enjoy! Welcome back My Dear Shoevians to The Other Shoe. Today is Wednesday April 22nd, 2015 and when I started the research for this article I quickly became aware that today is the 25th Anniversary of the launch of the Hubble Space Telescope! What a glorious day to pay tribute to this wonder of the modern age, by sharing some of the most recent images captured by Hubble.” With the pain in my neck reaching new levels of blinding pain, I decided to give myself a day to rest and recover. Little did I know that the primary blog location would take this opportunity to go AWOL! Nevertheless, this edition is/was worth republishing, so I did! ENJOY!

.

  • Traffic Reports – May 7th, 2015 “Now that I have the news out of the way, let me get to the meat of this article. As many of you, My Dear Shoevians, know about every six months I publish a ‘Traffic Report’. Now, I do this for many reasons, not the least of which is that I enjoy sharing the limited success of my writing. Yes, I work hard at; research, writing, editing and publishing at The Other Shoe. When I see the traffic counter on the Blog Dot com location stay over one hundred for a week or more… YES I am very very proud! That has occurred over the past two weeks.” This was a very enlightening edition of ‘Traffic Reports’. Whereas I did see the corresponding decline in readership during my chemotherapy, if you don’t publish new content, readers go elsewhere, that is a given. However, there is ‘Good News’ in this report, too! Good news in the discovery of even more expanded international readership! THAT is very ‘Good News’ indeed! If you need a reason to read this article, learning that My Dear Shoevians live in; England, France, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands and evern RUSSIA should do the trick, eh? Read and be informed!

.

That, My Dear Shoevians, brings us to the end of this article and the end of the week’s publishing. I hope that everyone takes some time, out of your Sunday, to go back and read and view some of the wonderful work and images I shared this past week. Again, I apologize for the absence, made even longer by the down time at the primary blog location. I am back, and I have a “Sunday Funnies’ yet to publish, today.

.

I regret to inform you that this week is my ‘Quarterly Visit To L.A.’ and my primary care physician, Dr. Laurence Gorlick. This journey into L.A., and back, takes a great deal out of me. It is a journey that takes, Allen and I, more than twelve hours of transit van rides to get into Rancho Palos Verde, and back here to Orange County. I will do my best to keep up my writing schedule, I just cannot make any promises I might not keep.

.

Thank you!

.

Adieu!

Again, this week let’s all put our hands together to give Gryphon D. Hanning! Gryphon is very young and even shyer. The first few attempts, at me capturing him on video, resulted in a whitish blur with black spots. This week, however, I was able, finally, to get some pictures of Gryphon and a video!

Sunday Funnies - Homage to Alexander R Hanning

[caption id="attachment_3577" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Alex at Xmas Hiding Alex at Xmas Hiding[/caption]

.

Welcome back My Dearest Shoevians to The Other Shoe. Today, as promised, I am here to present… to honor the lifetime’s contributions of Master Alexander R. Hanning. Most of you, My Dear Shoevians, and the world first met Alex right here in an edition of ‘Sunday Funnies’. I had the privilege and honor of knowing, and loving, this great rat his entire life. Starting to research this article, and put together images of Alex at many ages, I almost lost it. I would start to cry… then weep at his passing and my loss.

.

So much of mankind misunderstands and mistrusts rats. Now I am not talking about the common breeds of rats; rattus-rattus and rattus-norvegicus. These are you sewer and ocean faring vehicle rats. They are, however, the fathers and mothers of our modern day… domesticated ‘Fancy Rats’… what I have labeled rattus-superiorous. Just so everyone can know and maybe… just maybe inform a world. ‘Fancy Rats’ originated in the Victorian Era and were breed for dog fights. The original breeds of rats simply turned and ran, when placed in a pit with a terrier. IT was Jim Shaw that bred the very first Fancy Rats because they showed promise in the dog pits.

.

When placed into the dog pits these Fancy Rats would start to ‘box’ the terriers! They would no run away, scamper off, they would roll into their backs and begin ‘boxing’ with their front paws! This threw the dogs off, at first, and was the source of great sport… to the sick individuals that engaged in this inhumane and vile sport. Yet, even at our darkest mankind can do some small good. Our modern day ‘Fancy Rats’ owe their entire existence to Jim Shaw and sick and depraved Victorian Era perverts.

.

Now, back to my best friend and the star of ‘Sunday Funnies’ for many moons, Alexander R. Hanning. Now, it comes as a disturbing surprise that… and I have worked on this for over a week… I am having a difficult time locating early images of Alexander. Granted I am dealing with greatly increased pain, and eeven more limited mobility since my fall in the shower a little over two weeks ago. I apologize, however, I have been able to find videos of Alexander on My You-Tube Channel. Below is my very first video of Alexander R Hanning sharing a Freshetta pizza with me, his Daddy.

.

[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvZfJTFnNeM]

.

I am planning on creating his own YouTube channel… and put all his previous videos there for everyone to view and enjoy. Until I get the energy and make the time you can simply go to My You-Tube Channel and enter Alex/Alexander into the search engine. This should list all of the videos that have his name in the title. Again, I apologize for this inconvenience, between my failing health and my recent loss… well, I am just of the mind to spend hours and hours on these (much needed) projects. I am going to work on them just as soon as I am past my next series of scans… later this month.

.

Now, back to this homage and our star Alexander R. Hanning. Alex, from very early in his life, always shared my food and dinners with me. There really wasn’t much use in trying to make him stop, and I never really thought eating some human food would harm his health, more than brining him joy. OF course, today I kick myself and wonder… wonder if his human diet contributed to his stroke… and his early and untimely passing. AS if my shoulders are full enough, already.

.

Our next video is of Alexander sharing some curly fires with me from Arby’s. Now, he always ran off with them but I don’t really think he ate them much. Whenever I would clean out his home there was always tons of curly fires for me to clean out.

.

[youtube=https://youtu.be/BlyKu8B_KhQ]

.

For our next video of this homage we have Alexander learning that au jus is hot!

.

[youtube=https://youtu.be/hgImOTCWeCk}

.

Alex as a great many things; loving, caring, affectionate, intelligent, determined… and he was a construction rat! From the very first day Alex would spend time turning; paper bags, magazine rack of my computer table, even a pillowcase into his new home! The video, below, is one of many videos I made of his construction efforts that spanned his short lifetime.

.

[youtube=https://youtu.be/ST6i6NtwLow]

.

And another of Alex rebuilding his home…

.

[youtube=https://youtu.be/teao33clJ_A]

.

The pain, in my neck… down my arms and into my hands and shooting into my face and neck, have increased… drastically since I started writing this article (well, this final draft). Unfortunately, I am going to have to wrap this up quickly… and hope to ADD editions over the upcoming weeks. More editions to share images of Alexander… and more stories from his short life. My Dearest Shoevians Alexander was only with me for two short years… it felt like a lifetime.

.

In that short time he constructed a place in my heart. He will always be with me, in my thoughts, in my heart and in my mind and works! That’s right Alexander R. Hanning is reborn in my works ‘The Adventures of Princess Nadia’. As is; Nakita, Nadia, and Alexander. These are/were my children taken from me all too soon. Below is the final video of this article. Now, I am crying again… and I still have to upload the article, edit, embed videos, and publish. It is now 2:24PM PDST and I am hoping to have this article available for everyone to read by 5PM Central time.

.

Thank you for dropping by and your visit, today. I look forward to seeing you, My Dear Shoevians, back here often. Please, remember Alexander R. Hanning for what he gave to all of us.

.

Thank you!

.

Adieu!

The Rebirth and Re-Launch of The Other Shoe

[caption id="attachment_3856" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Author/Editor Danny Hanning in Rolling Hills Estates February 2015 Author/Editor Danny Hanning in Rolling Hills Estates February 2015[/caption]

.

Welcome back My Dear Readers Shoevians to The Other Shoe. This article is my first written work in, well, many months. The world just keeps moving, as it did during my hiatus. Just recently I lost my best friend and constant companion, Alexander R. Hanning. His passing shook me to my very core and left me reeling for days. Alexander had a stroke March 27th, 2015. For the next two weeks I kept him at my side, cared for his every need and fed him Ensure and baby food.

.

He really wanted to hang in there, to stay at his Daddy Daniel’s side, for as long as possible. I will talk more about Alexander, his life’s work, and his end struggle later this week in my homage. This coming Sunday I hope to publish a final ‘Sunday Funnies – Homage to Alexander R. Hanning’. I will share his final videos, which remain unpublished, his final images and the time we spent together prior to his passing. Alexander was; a source of strength, a genuine friend, an inspiration and my muse for many works. His role in my upcoming works ‘The Adventures of Princess Nadia’ will be greatly expanded due to his larger-than-life role in my real life.

.

After much soul searching and discussions with Allen, I have brought my battle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma to an end. I have put my oncologist on the backburner and scheduled my next office visit for October. For all of you, My Dearest Shoevians, which have not faced cancer, the battle takes everything out of your life. We lost thousands of dollars of potential income, right at our birthdays, our 27th anniversary, and the Holiday season. Time, events, and treasure I will never regain, and is sorely lost.

.

Writing this, just now, I am seeing (for the first time) my level of personal loss. Oh, don’t get me wrong… I have known my loss. My lost income, my lost time and my loss of life and love. It is just, well… writing about it here, today, brings me face-to-face with my losses. Today, I end one of these losses by returning to writing and publishing here at The Other Shoe.

.

Now, My Dearest Shoevians, I am going to be completely honest upfront. I will not be capable of producing the amount of content, articles, here at the beginning. First, I am going to undertake a search for a new ‘look’ for the blog. The site at Word Press will remain the same for the time being. So, this change will just take place at the Blog.com location. I am looking to rekindle the Shoevians that were/are my regular readers. However, I am looking to expand my readership with any/all means possible. What you can look forward to?

.

You can look forward to; ‘The Mars Report’, ‘Lost in Space’, Sunday Funnies’ (changed due to the loss of Alexander R. Hanning), A Week in Review’ and “News From around the World’. I have several new article series that I plan on rolling out, over the next several weeks. Of course politics and the upcoming Presidential election will be featured over the coming months. For those that think they ‘know’ who I will write in favor and who I will choose to trash? “You don’t know!”

.

This is a very important election for many reasons. The most important for our nation is Income Inequality! The candidate that (honestly) champions genuine income redistribution (as suggested by Pope Francis) will curry my favor. We, Americans/America, are deeply entrenched in an “economy of exclusion”[1]. Pope Francis, recently, m et with executives from United Nations Agencies, Funds and Programmes. Here is an excerpt from their discussions:

.

“Future Sustainable Development Goals must therefore be formulated and carried out with generosity and courage, so that they can have a real impact on the structural causes of poverty and hunger, attain more substantial results in protecting the environment, ensure dignified and productive labor for all, and provide appropriate protection for the family, which is an essential element in sustainable human and social development. Specifically, this involves challenging all forms of injustice and resisting the “economy of exclusion”, the “throwaway culture” and the “culture of death” which nowadays sadly risk becoming passively accepted.”[2]

.

I strongly feel that, regardless of your political leaning, income inequalitypovertyrampant hunger among CHILDREN in America… and the repeated financial attacks (by Congressional Republicans) on; Food Stamps, Social Security Benefits, Social Security Disability Benefits, Veterans Benefits, Homeless Veterans Benefits, and like programs. America must belly-up to the table and honestly discuss the obvious attack(s) on the; poor, seniors, and the disabled.

.

So, My Dear Shoevians, I am publishing this article today (April 13, 2015) as a precursor to the rebirth and Re-Launch of The Other Shoe! I will not shy away form the issues of our time. I will not pull any punches, and I will do my level best to DOCUMENT every fact and factoid I will share over the months and years to come. As always, I put honesty above popularity and the credibility of my blog above traffic reports.

.

So, if you are just looking for some one0sided political fodder for your Facebook postings? The Other Shoe is not your place to read. However, if you have grown tired of obvious fodder and pandering. If you are not just another rhetoric parrot then, maybe… just maybe The Other Shoe is the place for you.

.

I look forward to seeing you all here as I work (hard) to return The Other Shoe to its former glory, and traffic. I just know that these ‘times’ will give me fodder. I am just hoping that my health, my strength and my resolve can match the intensity of these times.

.

Thank you!

.

Adieu!

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. My love for Alex knows no bounds. Alex’s love for me, knows no bounds. So long as I am alive Alexander R Hanning will live a blessed life. He will want for nothing and spend his days; eating, playing, and sleeping beside his Daddy. He is a wonderful young rat, and his time with me has been special.

Sunday Funnies - September 7th, 2014

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. If it is Sunday? Then it is time for ‘Sunday Funnies’! This week Alexander R Hanning is busy at work building yet another ‘Home’ away from his two story condo. I found a nice cardboard box, placed it on my bed, and gave him old pajamas and torn up paper to play with. This video is a little bit of the ‘construction’ Alex engaged in getting the box turned into a home!

Enjoy!

A Week in Review - September 7th 2014

.

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. The end of the week has come and it is time for ‘A Week in Review’ here at The Other Shoe. With the publication of this article, I have managed to publish NINE articles in the past seven days. I consider this to be quite an accomplishment, considering what was going on in my life outside this blog. I started the re-publication of a very (initially) popular series of articles; ‘The Story of Daniel’. First published in the late summer to fall of 2012, this series of articles was (originally) written to help you, My Dear Readers, gain an understanding of who I am… where I grew up… and how important it was/is to reach out and help me in a time of great need.

.

My motivation for re-publication was the same as when it was first published. The reasoning is the similar, only the circumstances are different. Similar in that when it was originally published I was fighting for my mobility, and now I am fighting for my life. Below are excerpts and comments on the eight articles I have published in the past seven days.

.

Now, without further Adieu, I give you ‘A Week in Review’

.

The Mars Report – September 1st 2014 : “I would ‘blame myself’, but I strongly feel that; writing and publishing nearly a dozen articles, spending 12, 14, and 16 hours A DAY (promoting, linking, sharing, and writing) on my blog(s) and Facebook, spending money (that I really shouldn’t) to promote even MORE, and generally… lowering myself to daily asking for HELP! I, generally, feel that I have ‘done my part’. There is little more that I can do. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday I will be: visiting my Oncologist, having a P.E.T. scan done, and have BONE MARROW removed from my pelvic girdle. I will try to write. However, I do not know how much I can get done… considering I will be out every day for the tests for ‘Staging My Cancer’!” This was the ONLY ‘regular’ articles that I manage to publish, this week, aside fro this “A Week in Review’. To say that the pain was terrible would be redundant. To write about how I really wanted to share, would be futile. To try and explain my frame of mind, my concern for my health and my fear of my cancer. Appears to be honesty of a kind and type that people just do not want to read. I guess.

  • The Story of Daniel – Redux – All About Danny : “The reality of my life… is why I wrote ‘The Story of Daniel’ back in September of 2012. I use this story now to maybe help people remember who I am. Remember that I used to stand at their side, remember that I used to work to make them laugh, remember how hard I worked for the plays, remember how important Pearland was-and-is to me. To remember is to relive in our hearts, our minds, our souls. I used to occupy that space in many people’s lives in Pearland.” The whole ‘thought process’ (originally pitched to me by one Jim Thornton) was that if the good people of Pearland could remember; who I was, how I used to entertain them, why they enjoyed my company and my performances that they just might reach out and help me in my time of need. That was the thought process. I just thought that I might try it, again. I have, yet, to decide if next week will se the continuation of this publication. Or, like my efforts to document my trials and battle with cancer, it will be throw to the wayside for something more commercially viable.

  • Daniel’s Disability and HOW it ALL Began! – Redux : “See, there is no one to blame, in this matter it is just a matter of ‘bad luck’ or something like that. I don’t hate anyone, or blame anything for the plight I live with… boy, that would be futile, to seek and assign blame. Because it really doesn’t matter, in the large scheme of things, who did what or who didn’t won’t make my pain go away.” Twenty-seven years ago someone, working the electrtonics stockroom at Target in Manhattan Beach, placed a Smith Corona typewriter at the very top of a pile of loosely stacked boxes. The next day that typewriter fell and struck me in the spine and back of the head. That incident set in motion the events of the next twenty-five years of my life. If my assumptions are correct, and the bone graft is/was the source of the Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma… that fateful day is also responsible for my cancer.

  • The Story of Daniel – Redux – Episode One – The Beginning : “The Cub Scouts taught me the importance of; self reliance, respect of elders and community, and that knowledge is power. At the same time that I was learning these lessons in Scouts, I was learning even more in my Father’s garage. My father was an X-Ray technician for three orthopedic surgeons in the Herman Professional Building in Houston. They were the ‘Herman Associates’ group. Dr.(s); Hutcherson, Moore and Baker. When my father came home from work, he had dinner with the family only to then go to work in our garage. My father ran a small business out of our garage. We were the owners and operators of ‘K. & M. Electronics’ (Ken and Margie). My father repaired; radios, televisions, clocks and record players, HAM radios and transmitters, teletype machines and pretty much everything if he could get the schematics.” This is the beginning of my story. The formative years of my life, and how my father’s work and profession had a lasting impact on my life and career choices. I have included this part of the story… for one reason. I wanted people to know, to understand, that I was/am a Cub Scout and a Boy Scout. That lots of people have trusted me all my life, and that they too could trust me. Turst! I was trying to instill trust for me in my readers. Trust that if they donated money. That I would USE that money as I explained and as it was intended!

  • PRE-CHEMO Appointment, DONE! : “My Dear Readers I have just spent two hours in ‘Orientation’ for Chemotherapy. Unfortunately, due to my lack of financial means, I will be poorly prepared for… and After treatment.” Here, I am trying to relay the events of my life. To tell a tale and to explain the source of my needs and their urgency. To be truthful, and trustworthy.

  • The Story of Daniel – Part Two – REDUX! : “The holidays, for the Hanning family, were an enjoyable and busy time. Starting in October, when the air became crisp and temperatures dropped, my father added a new duty to his agenda. He took on the creation and display of festive and seasonal decorations. Though my father never talked of it openly, he loved the holiday season. Oh, not shopping and not the cooking (that was Mother’s job), he just loved decorating the house for the neighbors. It almost seemed as though he regarded it as some ‘social responsibility’ to provide eye candy for the community and neighbors. I never sensed he thought of it as; an obligation or competition it was his way of expressing himself. My father didn’t sing or dance or anything of that nature. Yes, he sang hymns at South Park Baptist Church but you would never see him bursting into song around the house of neighborhood.” My father could have spent his free time, around the holidays, relaxing and enjoying time spent with family. Not my father, he spent is free time setting about wonderful and entertaining decorations and automated displays. He really sought to bring joy and happiness to his friends and neighbors. I have a great deal of respect for him, in that regard. My father was a man of the community and he sought always to give back to those around him. A habit I picked up, and used my singing and acting abilities to follow in his footsteps.

  • The Story of Daniel – Part Three – REDUX! : “As I have told you, much of elementary school at Pearland is just gone, “dust in the wind”. For what ever reason, though, my memories of the time that I spent in the (then) new ‘Middle School’ are pretty clear and there a good many of them, too. Now, I really do wish that my parents had purchased those ‘Year Books’. I was never really big on buying them, as a boy. Now that may have been merely because my mother and father both never really showed any interest in buying them, and I was just following their lead or it could be because our family just budgeted out money so frugally that it seemed a frivolous expenditure. What ever the reason, I am working without a net here, so IF I get some dates wrong, or places please be kind.” This is the third part of ‘The Story of Daniel’. I explain my time coming to Pearland, starting at the Elementary school and then on to Pearland Middle School. The best I can figure the Hannings arrived in Pearland in, like, 1965 or 1966. We lived on Francis street, there in Pearland, until my mother passed away in 1987. Twenty-plus years in Pearland… and not the “couple of years” some would have me believe.

  • Radioactive Dan! : “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. My apologies for my absence, these past two days, as I have been involved in the ‘Staging’ process with my cancer. Yesterday, the topic of this article, was full of fun and excitement with a P.E.T. (Positron Emission Tomography – Computed Tomography) scan. I know how could something like that be… entertaining? Well, I will tell you just how and give you; videos from the day, images from the day, and images of/about P.E.T. scans and the process. At the end of this article, I will share some of the actual images from my scan! Tell me that is not exciting!” This was my very FIRST P.E.T. scan. I had never been directly injected with a radioactive sugar compound, before. Looking back, I just wish I had the… resources to eat the correct foods prior to the scan. I was unable to eat a “high Protein, Low Carbohydrate” diet the way they had instructed.

  • The Hardest Decision of My Life : “With less than three weeks left, to the campaign, I have made a difficult and hard decision. I will no longer write articles about; my cancer, my adventure with cancer, my visits to doctors, my chemotherapy, or anything to do with my treatment or condition. I have seen my traffic decline, and with more than 210 ‘Shares’ on Facebook I have garnered only the support of two people. I fear that I risk loosing more of you, My Dear Readers, if I continue to write about my disease and my battle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.” IF I could find a hole big enough, I would crawl into it and just disappear. That is how I felt, when I wrote this article, it is how I feel as I write this review. I have, obviously, offended… upset… ‘puched away’ people by just talking about my disease and asking for assistance. Who would’ve thunk it? Facts are facts, traffic was in a downward spiral (again, that could have been because of the of new material and/or the regular article series), I will never know. I am just stopping writing about my battle with cancer. I will write, when I am able, the regular articles everyone enjoys. Maybe… somehow, someway, I will be able to afford to eat properly… and get to and from treatments and pay my rent. However, as I have stated… if the costs of treatment and everything… take out of rent.. I WILL STOP treatments to pay my rent. Roof comes first!

.

Well, My Dear Readers, that brings us to the end of this week’s ‘A Week in Review’! As well, it brings to a close a very; tiring, trying and painful seven days. Next week, it will be just the regular articles. I do not believe I will continue the re-publication of ‘The Story of Daniel’. I know that nobody wants to hear about my battle with cancer. However, I will continue to make videos… and keep a journal of my journey… because that is what writers do!

.

Thank you for dropping by, and thank you for your kindness and support. I look forward to writing and publishing as my health and time allows. I do hope to have more of ‘The Horror in Smithville’ ready for next Friday. I look forward to seeing you, My Dear Readers, right here.

.

Adieu!

Thank YOU!

Sunday Funnies - August 31st, 2014

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. If it is Sunday then it is time for “Sunday Funnies’ at The Other Shoe! Continuing his return to performing for us here at The Other Shoe. Alexander R Hanning is back today with more of his nesting antics! Every week, I try, to change out Alex’s litter and bedding in all three of his ‘homes’ here in my apartment. What that means for little Alex is several days to taking shredded paper, paper towels, and old pajama bottoms and pulling them together to make himself a all new nest!

.

It looks like it a s lot of work, but Alex seems to get a kick out of playing. It have yet to get it captured, on video, but once he is all set in one of his habitats? He will come hopping out and skip around acting all happy and frisky! I think that he really enjoys remodeling his homes, every so often! That reminds me, his two story ‘Condo’ needs a complete cleaning. Allen and I have just been so busy with my appointments, trying to raise money to help with my battle with cancer… and Allen still working TWO JOBS!

.

Sometimes it is really difficult managing to get all three of his ‘homes’ cleaned at the same time. I am sure that we will get it done, this week.

.

Now, without further adieu! I give you ‘Alex Nesting – Sunday Funnies’ right here at The Other Shoe!

A Week in Review - August 30th 2014

[caption id="attachment_195" align="aligncenter" width="630"]Danny @ The Tinder Box 1987 Danny @ The Tinder Box 1987[/caption]

.

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. There is an old expression around the halls of the blog; “If it’s Saturday, it’s time for ‘A Week in Review’!” It’s Saturday, and this is ‘A week in Review’! Now I know that a lot of you, My Dear Readers, are just too darn busy to drop by and read, during the work week. That is the very reason I created, and continue, this article series here at The Other Shoe. I value all of you, My Dear Readers, and if me taking three to four hours every Saturday to; write, compile, edit and publish this article brings any of you, My Dear Readers, closer to my work? Then I have managed to accomplish something.

.

Truthfully, this week has been cocked full of me trying to accomplish something. From the nine (now TEN) articles I have published since my last ‘Sunday Funnies’ to my gargantuan efforts to help fund my battle against cancer with Danny’s Cancer Treatment Fund @ Indiegogo. To meeting with my new oncologist (Dr. Mario Curti), I have been hip-deep in work and swimming against the tide. Seems like I do a lot of that, swimming against the tide. For, you see, in just the last seven days I have written and published over one hundred pages of content for your, My Dear Readers, reading pleasure. Honestly, I just wish that I had garnered a single dollar for each page I have written… in my cancer treatment campaign.

.

Well, I will touch on that at the end of this article. Now, without further adieu I give to YOU ‘A Week in Review’!

.

  • Sunday Funnies – August 24th, 2014 : “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. Well, it it is Sunday then it is time for ‘Sunday Funnies’! I am very happy to announce that Alexander R Hanning (clicking his name here will take you to HIS Facebook page!) is BACK! That’s right after a month-long hiatus, for personal reasons, Alex is back to making videos with his Daddy Daniel!” Alex is just SO CUTE when he is building and creating. He takes after his Daddy Daniel, in that regard. He is one industrious rat-boy and his home is his palace. Be sure to drop by, tomorrow, for ANOTHER edition of ‘Sunday Funnies’ and watch as Alexander R Hanning just keeps working and just keeps building and nesting. We’ll see you then!

  • The Mars Report – August 25th 2014 : “Beneath this paragraph is the first image of this week’s edition of ‘The Mars Report’. Each week I will endeavor to share the current location of our intrepid sojourner, Curiosity. In the image, below, you will find that Curiosity is now in the depths of the ‘Hidden Valley’ of Mars. A side-note, I find it quite encouraging that NASA/JPL (with the help of EU’s Martian orbiter) have already mapped the entire Martian surface.” It has been some time since I was able to share an all new edition of ‘The Mars Report’. Curiosity had not been transmitting images that NASA/JPL saw fit to edit, improve and publish. That trend changed, this week. Curiosity has arrived at ‘Hidden Valley’ and this edition of this series is all about what happens with Curiosity in ‘Hidden Valley’! Read and enjoy!

  • Lost in Space – Solar System Tour – Uranus : “Last week I featured the planet Neptune in that edition of ‘Lost in Space’ the ‘Solar Systme Tour’. Today, we move one more planet forward (toward the Earth and Sun) and visit the planet Uranus! Now, for some of my more casual readers? It may appear (at first glance) that I am writing about the same planet. “Why?” You may ask. Because both Neptune and Uranus are both ‘large blue orbs’ at the outer rim of our solar system. At first glance they may appear to look the same, yet they are not.” Two weeks, in a row, we have featured a large blue orb, in out “Tour of the Solar System’. These two large blue orbs hang in the night sky, like two marbles that a giant has lost in the sky. Neptune and Uranus are the two huge blue marbles in our night sky, and I have hosted them here in this edition of ‘Lost in Space’. This article series is just under a year old, yet it is one of the favorite of many of you, My Dear Readers. Each and every week I work to write, share and publish images and science meant to trigger you imaginations and fuel your desire for more. More space exploration, more images from other worlds, more that help lift us from this earthy and put us among the starts. Where man truly belongs!

  • Just Published at Danny’s Cancer Treatment Fund @ Indiegogo : “Dear Family, Friends, Followers of The Other Shoe and Contributors, I just spent nearly two hours with a wonderfully hopeful and positive Oncologist. Here are the bullet points[1]:” This article was an update from the day I spent with my oncologist. I was hoping to make it crystal clear that I have a genuine need for the monies I have asked… and am working the campaign Danny’s Cancer Treatment Fund @ Indiegogo to garner. I am not running this campaign, spending ten or more hours each and every day… focused on this campaign. Putting aside my own comfort happiness, and my health just to try and ‘crook’ money from people without a genuine need! I have heard… that there are some… that are talking… spreading ill will, lies, deceit, and engaging in gravely disingenuous dialogue about me, my cancer, and this campaign. Let me be perfectly crystal clear; It takes ONE SICK PUPPY to spread LIES about a man WITH CANCER! I hope that everyone closes his or her ears to this disingenuous and sickly motivated poison. As well, I really DO hope that nobody has decide3d NOT to donate… merely because of the sick and disingenuous poison some have chosen to spread. Word!

  • Notes From Behind the Keyboard – August 27th 2014 : “I would very much like to write that “Help has arrived! I will be able to afford the care I need… I WILL BEAT THIS CANCER!” You have no idea just how much I would like to write those words here, and mean them. Maybe. Maybe it will happen. I just cannot see it, from this dark place. I hope that everyone is well and happy. Come back tomorrow for more… I will be venturing back to more familiar works and articles.” My Dear Readers, for all too long… more than once, this week, I have found myself… in a very dark place. I dislike having to admit this depression, in such a public way and forum, but it is true and I am not proud of exposing my fears and anxiety. I stand at the very edge… The edge of a life taken BY cancer… and at the OTHER edge of a life eradicated of cancer. Unfortunately? I cannot work… I have little to nothing of mine to sell… (yet I have many personal items up for sale today on eBay). If I had it to reach in and give, and receive the money I need in return? I would bare my soul and give it away, in exchange for the means to BEAT this cancer! Yes, it is a very dark place, where I find myself. A place without hope surrounded by fear and doubt.

  • Coming SOON to The Other Shoe! : “My decision is this; I am going to continue to write, publish and create all the wonderful regular articles that you, My Dear Readers have come to expect and enjoy. However, let me tell you, My Dear Readers, as shortly as just a few hours ago… I was quite willing to withhold; ‘The Horror in Smithville’, ‘My Two Cents’, ‘Notes from Behind the Keyboard’, ‘A Week in Review’ and ‘Sunday Funnies’ unless or until I started receiving contributions that left this ten dollar sum in the dust!” Deciding to not just focus on the lack of; support, donations, help, assistance, kindness, generosity… I closed my heart to the pain and deep feelings of abandonment, and threw myself headlong into my work. With determination in my heart, prayers on my lips, and the beauty of my words flowing from my soul I set about doing what I know how… WRITE!

  • News From Around the World – August 28th, 2014 : “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. Today I am going to share an article series that has been strangely absent from this blog. ‘News From Around the World’ made its first appearance, earlier this year, then vanished recently. Fact of the matter is, between my battle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, my (thwarted) attempt to raise the support I need to fight my cancer, and my ongoing battle with pain? I just paired down the number of articles I publish within a given week, and ‘News From Around the World’ found itself on the chopping block. It has been some time since I wrote and published an edition of this article series. However, I had yet to finish my edits on the upcoming episode of ‘The Horror in Smithville’ so, I put my head into the game and delivered an all new edition of ‘News From Around the World’! It felt good to be putting news stories back into print, here at The Other Shoe. Having not brought an article of this type, to the pages of this blog, for some time I was hesitant and even concerned that I might not be able to ‘hit my mark’. Without even trying, and without hesitation, I put my foot forward and, in deed, DID hit my mark! Here is the proff for you to read and enjoy!

  • Danny’s Cancer Treatment Fund – HOW to HELP! : “Well, My Dear Readers, that is about it! I cannot think of any other ways one could help my campaign to fight this cancer that has invaded my body. There might be other suggestions in the VIDEO BELOW. I don’t really remember… the video… making the video… or WHAT is IN the video. So, WATCH and tell ME!” In this article I am working just as hard as I can to try and re-engage you, My Dear Readers, into my campaign. Repeatedly I have shared that my need is genuine. I have provided proof of my disease, my doctor visits and done everything that I can imagine to validate my disease. Further, I work to try and share the details of my situation, and my current living circumstances. I have nothing to hide! I do this in the spirit of honesty and integrity. Placing my faith in you, MY Dear Readers, that when you are able that you will donate and lift me out from this desolation, despair, depression, and pain. I just keep moving forward!

  • The Horror in Smithville – Part 14 – B : “Mr. Dunahoo stood, silently, and watched as Tom Marref pealed out of the Middle School parking lot. Mr. Dunahoo knew that inside that truck, now leaving huge clouds of white/gray smoke in the parking lot; laid the unconscious and beaten body of a wonderfully talented student by the name of Timmy Marref. Truman, Mr. Dunahoo, wondered if any of the people gathered here at the back of the school (both students and teachers alike) even noticed how the billowing clouds of smoke coming from the rear tires of Mr. Marref’s truck? How those poofy white clouds resembled the wings of an angel. How, standing there watching a boy… a terribly beaten boy, being carried away by his father and his best friend, in their truck, actually looked like the truck was being lifted on the wings of an angel to take the poor boy to the hospital.” This is the second ‘story line’ in Part 14. Hence the ‘B’ designation. However, My Dear Readers, this is NOT all there is to ‘B’! This is merely ‘B’ -1! I have completed writing Part 14 - B -2, and tonight I will start, and finish Part -14 – B – 3! Three Parts, ONE chapter! It is that long and involved. Yet, IT IS WORTH IT! In this… third part (SPIOLER ALERT!!!) You will see the reappearance of… … … … ‘The TALL Man’! That’s right… not going to tell you; where, when, why of HOW! That is up to you to read! My Dear Readers, I simply must tell you! I LOVE WRITING THIS STORY! It is taking me so many places that are; familiar, fun, thrilling, joyous and entertaining. I just can’t stay away from writing this story! So, tonight… after I finish; writing TWO newsletters, publishing TWO newsletters and publishing THIS review? I will return to the World of Timmy and Archer! HOPE to see YOU there!

.

That’s it! That’s all! NINE articles in just SIX days! Well OVER One Hundered PAGES of content written for your enjoyment and entertainment! My Dear Readers, first and foremost I am here to entertain and enlighten! However, I simply must face the realities of my real world life! If I am unable to fight this cancer? It will take me away from you, My Dear Readers.

.

This Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma has the power to silence my voice and take me from your side. It can, and (without your help and donations) it will! I am not afraid of death. One cannot spend a lifetime; around death, writing about death, and working around death without growing a thick skin. I do not fear what this cancer can and will take from me. What I do fear is what it will take from; Allen and Alexander… and YOU, My Dear Readers.

.

You see, I have so much more to give. So much more to write. So many more tales to tell, and so many more people to share. I simply cannot do this ALONE! I am without the (financial) means to battle and BEAT this bodily invader. That is why I have solicited your HELP! For, without your help… I will surely perish.

.

Yet, with your help? I will surely flower! It is just as simple as that. Please. Take the time to look at the campaign. Read my ‘Mission Statement’ and learn WHERE this money will be spent. Drugs, Food, Housing, Transposition… SIMPLE LIFE NESSCEITIES!

.

Please look. PLEASE read. PLEASE HELP BY DONATING… TODAY!

.

Adieu!

Thank YOU!
