Pope Francis - First Year as Pontiff

.

[caption id="attachment_2495" align="aligncenter" width="630"]Pope Francis Pope Francis[/caption]

.

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. It is with a particular sense of happiness, and peace, that I commemorate Pope Francis’ first year as Pontiff of the Catholic Church. Yesterday was the actual anniversary of his inauguration of Pope Francis. Bestowed, upon inauguration, with the titles of; The Vicar of Christ, Bishop of Rome, Successor Of St. Peter, Prince Of The Apostles, Supreme Pontiff Of The Universal Church,  Patriarch Of The West,- Servant Of The Servants Of God, Primate Of Italy, Archbishop And Metropolitan Of The Roman Province, Sovereign Of Vatican City State, and the most often used and most common title His Holiness The Pope[1]. It would be quite difficult, or most men, to not be swept up in the pomp and circumstance of this office, not to mention the adoration by over one billion members[2] of the Catholic faith.

.

However, setting him apart from many that proceeded him, and especially the last Pope before him. Pope Francis (the 266th Pope since the first Pope, Saint Peter) remains very much a man of the people. Unlike his immediate predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI, Pope Francis does not surround himself with the eccentricities of office. Pope Benedict XVI, during his short papacy, spent Vatican money freely on a lavish lifestyle. His shoes were the subject of many articles and much gossip. They were handmade of the finest leather, tanned red to reflect his office, allegedly costing several thousand dollars… each! Just one more example of the opulent lifestyle and lavish spending; his crucifix was (also) handmade and encrusted with rubies.

.

Conversely, Pope Francis wears off—the-shelf sandals, a hand-me-down crucifix, and does not indulge in any of the eccentricities of his predecessor or his lavish lifestyle.

.

“The first pope from Latin America, the first from the Jesuit religious order and the first to take the name of the most beloved saint of the poor,…”[3]

.

Pope Francis has made a name for himself, in just the first year of his Papacy, by; challenging wealth, pointing out America’s “feverish pursuit of frivolous pleasures”[4], and making clear that putting a company’s “bottom line” ahead of “the needs of the least among us” should be completely unacceptable to all Christians. Pope Francis came on to the scene like gang busters, defending the poor, calling into question the motives of the wealthy, and reminding all humans that “greed is a sin”.

.

Yesterday, on the event of the anniversary of his first year as the Vicar of Christ, Pope Francis tweeted “Please pray for me” to his millions of followers. I, personally, received his tweet… and immediately answered his request. My Dear Readers, for all of you that knew me; in Pearland, in college, as a young man, and even in Colorado Springs, you know that I am not a religious man. I have attended church, off and on, all my life. I have attended; Lutheran churches, Methodist churches, The Church of Christ, The Church of England, and even three different synagogues. However, there is something different about Pope Francis. Something that speaks to me on a very base level, he speaks to my soul.

.

[caption id="attachment_2493" align="aligncenter" width="460"]Pope Francis Pope Francis[/caption]

.

Yes, he and I do share beliefs about the overt greed… the avarice that has swept America. We share the idea that America’s greed is to blame for a great many of our ills, and the anemic state of our recovery. Pope Francis and I share the heartfelt belief that if you are capable of helping someone you know, and know they are going without food… that they struggle every day, yet you do nothing to help? That your inaction defines you and sets you on a path that is not one with God. That one cannot act, in the fashion described above, and still call yourself… Christian. That America’s have chosen a path of avarice. Instead of righting this moral wrong these Americans seek to (wrongfully) paint these fellow Americans in need as; lazy, slothful, worthless, dependent and even thieves. All in a vain effort to shut out what they know, in their hearts and souls, to be immoral greed and avarice instead blaming the poor.

.

Pope Francis has made no qualms in writing and speaking about this terrible trend in our great nation. He has been made the victim of terrible insults and cruel characterizations by the talking heads of the far right. Instead of understanding his Christianity, these elements of the greedy media seek to wrongfully paint the Pope as a ‘Socialist” and worse. Doubling down on the rhetoric of avarice, they ignore the fact that greed is a sin! Further, that greed and avarice our one of the ‘Seven Deadly Sins” as outlined in Catholicism.

.

[caption id="attachment_2494" align="aligncenter" width="600"]Pope Francis Pope Francis[/caption]

.

“The seven deadly sins are pride, covetousness (also known as avarice or greed), lust, anger, gluttony, envy, and sloth.” [5]

.

That so much did God want mankind to never forget how horrible a sin the act of greed and avarice; he placed another reminder in the ‘Ten Commandments’[6]

.

“Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.”

.

Reminding mankind to never put any thing between ourselves and our love of God. To make sure that we understood our relationship with God can be, will be, damaged by putting money (and/or the pursuit of money) between ourselves and our God is a sin.

.

        “Thou shalt not steal.”

.

Another reminder of the sin of overt greed and avarice, and that only God shall decide if our pursuit of wealth (in life) was theft of wealth or the opportunity of financial stability of a fellow man.

.

“Thou shalt not covet! thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.

.

Three times and in three different ways did God seek to make mankind aware of how serious he saw our potential love affair with money.

.

Enough… In my articles:

.

  • ·        Avarice in America : ““The great danger in today’s world, pervaded as it is by consumerism, is the desolation and anguish born of a complacent yet covetous heart, the feverish pursuit of frivolous pleasures, and a blunted conscience.”[7]

  • ·        Pope Francis Strikes AGAIN : ““Some people continue to defend trickle-down theories which assume that economic growth, encouraged by a free market, will inevitably succeed in bringing about greater justice and inclusiveness in the world,” Pope Francis November 24th, 2013[8] Here Pope Francis points directly at America. He points directly a one political party, in America. He singles out this ‘party of the wealthy’ as guilty of injustice and the falsehood that is “trickle-down” economics.

  • Unbridled Capitalism vs. Human Strife: ““A society that “does not pay a just wage”, that “does not give work” to people; a society that “that only looks to its balance books, that only seeks profit” is unjust and goes against God.” Pope Francis on Vatican Radio May 1st, 2013[9] RIGHT THERE! On Vatican Radio on May 1sy, 2013 ‘The Vicar of Christ’ Clearly states that anyone, any corporation, any company, and society, and political party that “seeks only profit” or that puts profit ahead of feeding the poor… housing the poor… caring for “The least among you.”? Well, Pope Francis puts it as succinctly and clearly as is humanly possible that these actions “goes against God.”

.

In just one year Pope Francis has put mankind (and America) on notice. I have a great deal of admiration for Pope Francis. My Dear Readers, it is not coincidence that the College of Cardinals made this man Pope right now in history. They see, as do many millions of Americans, that avarice is a disease to the human condition. That right now, more than anytime in modern history, does America and mankind stand on the very precipice of falling away from our better nature. Aye, there’s the rub!

.

[caption id="attachment_2496" align="aligncenter" width="618"]Pope Francis on Twitter Pope Francis on Twitter[/caption]

.

You see, even if you do not believe in; God, Christ, Christianity, Religion, Organized Religion you can (if you so desire) see that mankind is on an unsustainable path. That we were warned via religion, the word of God, and Pope Francis of an eventuality that is upon us. The eventuality of a failure of our society, of our monetary system, of mankind out of the shortsighted and sick mindless pursuit of avarice.

.

Finally, My Dear Readers, just this week Pope Francis has made history, again. Speaker Boehner and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi have invited Pope Francis to speak before a Joint Session of Congress! Never before, in the history of our great nation, has a Pope been invited to speak before a Joint Session of Congress. This is an unprecedented invitation, and if accepted, it will be an unprecedented event in our nation’s history. For me, further proof that Pope Francis is using the office as a bully pulpit for the voice of our humanity. I hope that he accepts. When/if Pope Francis accepts and speaks, I will bring you every word right here at The Other Shoe.

.

As always I am deeply honored that you come here and read my work.

.

Thank YOU!

.

P.S. My Dear Readers, I regret that I am compelled to add this postscript. In October, of last year, several events (not the least of which was a man stealing $300 of money I raised to help me move) transpired to set me back, financially. Since that time I have worked, tirelessly, to regain my financial footing. Through help from Ian Cottier, and James Coate I have regained some of my footing. I am forever in their debt, and they know that they can call on me for anything. However, I am still carrying a ‘Payday Advance’ at my bank of hundreds of dollars… and I still eat… sometimes only once a day. Below you see a link to eBay to items I am trying to sell. I am unable to work, at a job. My condition prohibits me from most activities. Even this blog… I write sitting in bed, a hard neck brace in place and I can only work 15-20 minutes at a time.

I regret my situation, yet I am not embarrassed as I have done everything I am able and I am not the first person to get ripped off on Craigslist trying to get a roommate… or other transaction. I apologize, in advance, yet ask for your support and even understanding. Any kind of support is appreciated. From sending me food, to buying items at my eBay store… to sending financial support via PayPal or the mail will be greatly appreciated. I am living a subsistent lifestyle. Within the next two months… my Payday advance will expire… leaving me… short on rent to the point I will be evicted. I pinch every penny. I eat as little as is possible. I do not purchase clothing, or luxury items (games, videos, music or the like). I have not gone to a movie at a theater in more than five years. The prescription eye glasses I wear are ten years old.

I apologize, but any an all help will be greatly appreciated. You can contact me, or use this email to send money via PayPal – Enzomatrix@earthlink.net

As well, if you would like to talk with me… send me suggestions… rekindle a friendship… or just constructive criticism about the blog, please feel free. In closing, I am working hard to make this kind of post script on articles a thing of the past! Help me, help myself. Thank you!

The Horror in Smithville - Part Two

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe and Part Two of ‘The Horror in Smithville’. This morning I awoke, rather several times during the night… too, to what sounded like wet cement in my lungs… again. This is getting tiresome, and worrisome, in quick order. Having lost a great deal of sleep, last night, I elected to ‘sleep-in’ some today. However, not so much as to miss presenting you, My Dear Readers, with ‘The Horror in Smithville – Part Two’!

.

We are getting to know Timmy and Archer, and the Marref family, in these first few pages. Currently, we are building to the much-anticipated ‘Marref Family Chicken Dinner’. To be followed, shortly thereafter, with an evening of a little homework, a little television, then off to bed… and an extended night of talking and planning under the cover of darkness… and their respective beds.

.

In spite of my growing illness, and the ever thickening gunk that now lives in my lungs. I am very proud to present ‘Part Two’ of my very first venture into the genre of horror, here at The Other Shoe.

.

Enjoy!

.

.

.

Now Timmy’s Mom weren’t no fool, nor was she born yesterday. Margaret knew Timmy had just been on the phone, for the past half hour, with his best Archer. Margie also knew, and she loved her son Timmy for this, that he was mighty accustom to hug her at any given time. However, Timmy creeping up on her to put his arm around her waist and hug her while she’s frying chicken? That was a sure fire sign that Timmy wanted something, and he wanted it something mighty strong. This made Margie smile ear to ear. She could hardly wait to hear the yarn her son was about to spin.

.

Just in the nick of time though Margie bit her upper lip to make herself stop smiling,  right as Timmy looked up into her face with those doleful hazel eyes.

.

            “Mama… “

.

Timmy was all of twelve now, he didn’t call here Mama, much anymore. It was Mom, or Mother. Least ways it was that ways most of the time if’n he knew his father was in earshot. Margie nearly broke up laughing and took to the floor with laughter. Again, she bit her upper lip, this time hard. She had to keep a straight face, then looked her son Timmy right in the eyes. If they were going to play this, it was going to be one to remember.

.

“Awww, Timmy… what’s got you so long in the face?”

.

Timmy had his mother right where he wanted her; the big eye look always got results.

.

“Well, Mama, I just got off the phone with Archer… you know… my bestest friend in the whole wide world?”

.

OK… Margie was about to bite right through her lower lip, with that one. Timmy and Archer had been pretty much inseparable since shortly after birth. Becky, Archer’s Mom, was at the county hospital delivering Archer the same week she was there giving birth to Timmy. They had even shared the room in the hospital, right after delivery. While in that room Becky had confided in Margie. Confided in her about how tight things were… since the move from West Virginia. Becky had broken down into tears, while explaining how it was to live on only one income. Becky had been hired, at the Middle School, right after they moved to town. However, the school didn’t want her to work while she was showing, and not for three months after she gave birth.

.

Archer’s father had landed the job as school janitor the same week Becky landed the job as science teacher. The check of the school janitor wasn’t nothing to write home about, and Becky feared she just wouldn’t have enough to property feed her newborn son, Archer. Margie assured Becky, right there in that maternity ward room. Come hell or high water, her newborn son Archer would not do without if Margie had anything to do with it. Since that day Margie had kept her word to Becky, and out of that word had grown a wonderful friendship between the two of them, and their boys. Honest, Margie had come to love Archer just as much as her own son. They were a lot alike, except for size… Timmy had hit his growth spurt before Archer, though Timmy never made mention of their difference in stature.

.

Margie knew what Timmy was about to ask… dinner and, likely, a sleepover. It was a school night… but the carnival had just arrived in town that afternoon… and, well... boys will be boys. Margie needed to get her focus back on the chicken and biscuits before something burnt; she figured she would head her son Timmy off at the pass.

.

“So, let me see if I can read your mind, Timmy. You would like… to have Archer over for dinner tonight… and… hang on… there is something else I am sensing… You would like to have Archer over for a sleepover… tonight? Did I get anything right?

.

            “DANG!”

.

Timmy thought to himself… was Mom listening in on the phone? Was he talking too loud? Why am I sitting here looking a gift horse in the mouth? OK… sheepish grin on; three, two… one! Finish with a BIG hug… and a deeply felt and authentic

.

“Thanks, Mom! You’re the best!”… That should work mighty fine.

.

Timmy looked back up at his Mom, making his hazel eyes as sweet and doleful as humanly possible… Lower your voice back to about 6 or 7… speak!

.

“Awww, shucks Mom, how’d you guess? Yeah… Archer’s Mom is making Spam, again, tonight… and there is always leftover chicken… Thanks Mom!” Followed closely with a big ol’hug right around her waist.

.

As Timmy bolted out of the kitchen, Margie whispered under her breath.

.

“You’re welcome, son. You know I’d do anything for you and Archer.”

.

Timmy ran so fast to get to the phone in the front room, he was out of breath when Archer answered. Now Timmy had failed to see his father was in front room, sitting reading the newspaper in his favorite chair.

.

Ring Ring…. Ring Ring… Come ON Archer.. ANSWER, you know it’s me!

.

“Hello, Enrim residence.” Timmy always cracked up when he heard Archer speak, like, so formal.

.

“Archer, it’s me Timmy. I just talked to my Mom and she said OK!”

.

Archer’s heart jumped up into his throat. He was so happy. Yes, he was looking forward to Timmy’s Mom’s chicken dinner with all the fix’ns, but it was more than that. More than the dinner, or the trip to the carnival. For the next two days, at least, he and Timmy would be inseparable. That is what Archer liked best; he would be spending the next two days with his… brother… Timmy.

.

See, after Archer was born his Mom and Dad had decided not to have any more children. Money was just too tight… and they felt a responsibility… a responsibility to make sure they could properly provide for any children they brought into this world. They had even talked to him about it, a couple of years ago. It was all right with Archer, Timmy was just like a brother to him… and Archer tired hard to be like a brother to Timmy, too.

.

Archer realized he hadn’t yet answered Timmy… and that and Timmy was going

.

“Archer, you there?” into the phone…

.

            Archer answers, quickly.

.

“Yeah, yeah I’m here don’t wet yourself I heard ya’!” Archer giggled a little, just to let Timmy know he was fool’n.

.

“So, should I head over now? I got all my clothes and stuff ready while you were talking to your Mom.”

.

Timmy answered

.

“Yeah, if you are ready already head on over… wait, did you get Mr. Matitchire’s Math homework done, yet? I haven’t… maybe we can work on that together before dinner?”

.

Archer had already finished Mr. Matitchire’s math homework, during class. Math came easy for Archer. It was as if he saw the numbers in his head. He knew that Timmy didn’t have it as easy with math, but Timmy was best at English. So, they helped each other out… just like brothers.

.

“Yeah, I already finished the math homework, I can help you with that… the spelling homework is what I haven’t finished.”

.

“Don’t worry Archer; we’ll get it all done tonight before TV.”

.

Seeing as Timmy had not noticed his father, Martin, when he flew into the front room. He was unawares that his father was taking note of everything he said to Archer. As well, Margie came out of the kitchen, while he was on the phone, and whispered into Martin’s ear that the boys were having a sleepover. That, and, Archer was joining them for dinner. Martin whispered back, that was just fine.

Martin liked Archer, too. He was always very polite. Thanked Margie for the food, and ranted and raved about her cooking. Martin didn’t remember, often enough, to tell his wife how great her cooking was… he just got too involved with matters on the farm… and the growing disturbing news he read in the papers. It was good having Archer around the house because he was a brother to Timmy, he helped keep Margie smiling, and Martin enjoyed the larger family in his home.

.

Shortly after Timmy told Archer that they would get all their homework done in time for some television, Timmy ran to his room to get ready. Now, Timmy generally kept his room in good order. He had never developed the habit of just tossing dirty clothes on the floor, when getting home from school or play. He always took his dirty clothes and placed them in the hamper Mom kept in the front bathroom. Every morning, upon rising, Timmy made his bed up and tucked in the sheets. See Timmy really liked cool crisp sheets to sleep on and cool fresh pillows.

.

The best way to keep your sheets cool and crisp was to keep your bed made with hospital corners. Covering the pillows with the comforter helped keep the pillow cases clean, and the pillows cool and fresh, when it came time to go to bed. Timmy went about picking up some trash around the room, closed his schoolbooks and organized his desk. Then he took the trash out to the cans outside. When he came back into the room, Timmy pulled the sleeping bag out of the closet. When Archer came for a sleepover Archer used Timmy’s sleeping bag to… well, sleep in. He lined up the sleeping bag parallel to his bed, head to head and feet to feet.

.

Timmy was working to save enough money to get Archer a cot, for use when he spent the night. Archer and Timmy never could seem to get to sleep quickly, when Archer came over for a sleepover. Timmy was ‘ok’ with that, but when they sat up talking either Archer came up and sat at the end of Timmy’s bed, or Timmy ended up talking to a disembodied voice all night. Most of the time Archer just sat at the end of Timmy’s bed, but more times than not that lead to Timmy waking up in the morning with Archer curled up at the end of his bed like the family dog. Archer was his brother and deserved better than sleeping at the foot of his bed like the family dog. That was going to change this year. Timmy dragged the vacuum cleaner into his bedroom and gave the carpet a good vacuuming.

.

About the time he was rolling up the power cord, Archer came bounding up the stairs to Timmy’s bedroom. Archer was smiling so big Timmy honestly though if he got any happier the top of his head would come loose from the bottom at the jaw line. That mental image made Timmy laugh just as Archer stepped into the bedroom.

.

“Geeze Timmy you didn’t have to vacuum and everything. I didn’t mean to put you out or anything… “

.

Timmy rolled up the power cord and pushed the vacuum into his closet. He turned around to face Archer and said,

.

“Nothing is too good for my best friend in the whole world, Archer.”

.

With that, Timmy honestly thought he saw the top of Archer’s head come loose from the bottom.

.

“Right before you came in my Mom said it was ten minutes till dinner. We should go and wash up for dinner. Did you bring your math homework assignment with you?”

.

Washing up for dinner, Archer thought, meant that chicken dinner was only moments away, his stomach growled with anticipation. Without a word Archer held up his math class workbook to Timmy’s eye level. Timmy gave archer a ‘thumbs up’ and they both proceeded to the bathroom to wash up for dinner. It was going to be a night to remember, for Timmy and Archer. A night to remember… in more ways than one.

.

Just as Timmy tossed the hand towel to Archer, to dry his hands, Margie’s voice wafted upstairs inviting the boys to come down and dig into the chicken dinner. Without a word Timmy and Archer engaged in a foot race to the kitchen. Timmy was slightly taller, and had the home filed advantage. However, Archer was going to give Timmy a run for his money tonight.

.

As the boys burst into the kitchen, Martin looked up from his paper and addressed the boys.

.

“Both washed your hands and brushed your hair, right? Cleaned under those finger nails, too?”

.

Timmy’s Dad, Martin, was a stickler for personal hygiene especially at dinnertime. Martin explained that showing up at a person’s dinner table for a meal, without cleaning up properly, was “disrespectful to your host”. The last thing Archer wanted was to be seen as disrespectful by either of Timmy’s parents. First by Timmy, and then Archer, they showed their hands then fingernails to Martin for his approval. A quick nod, and a wink to Archer, told the boys they had passed inspection and they took their seats for a delicious and long awaited chicken dinner.

.

That, My Dear Readers, brings us to the end of Part Two of 'The Horror in Smithville' here at The Other Shoe. You will be able to read Part Three right here, next Thrusday. I hope that everyone enjoys the story, so far. Fear not, there is quite a bit of fright yet to come in this story. AS well, more than a scare of two, too!

.

As always I am deeply honored that you come here and read my work.

.

Thank YOU!

Introduction to The Deep Web - Part One

[caption id="attachment_2481" align="aligncenter" width="630"]Access is FORBIDDEN The Deep Web Access is FORBIDDEN The Deep Web[/caption]

.

.

Welcome back My Dear Readers, to The Other Shoe. For many months now I have fought an internal battle, with myself. A battle that was not easily lost, nor won. A battle that, unfortunately, I (in some small way) will now hand over to you, My Dear Readers. The battle was/is one of conscience, in that I had to choose a course of action. The ‘high road’ would have left you, My Dear Readers, without knowledge and insight (from me at least) regarding a growing danger. Conversely, the ‘low road’ is the one where I explain to you, My Dear Readers, about this growing danger. In so doing, though, I expose you directly to this danger… and place in your hands the very crisis of conscience I have fought now for many months.

.

But, first, a disclaimer for myself (Daniel Hanning) and The Other Shoe. Any, and all, information I am about to relay to you, My Dear Readers, I do so for proposes of entertainment and edification only. I, Daniel Hanning, as well as any parties associated with the; writing, editing, publication, transmission and distribution of this article (and of The Other Shoe) accept no responsibility either directly or implied for any actions or results of any actions you, My Dear Readers, may take upon reading this article and the information contained therein. We are all adults and our actions are those of a person exercising free will. I have not, nor will I ever, use any means of enticement or suggestion (subliminal or otherwise) to induce or illicit any actions or behavior on the part of any person or persons that read my blog or any material continued therein. This disclaimer starts on this day (March 12, 2014) and continues in perpetuity.

.

Now, with all the legal mumbo jumbo out of the way I will continue on with the show. Today I begin this series of articles on this Wednesday, and it will continue on Wednesdays until complete. This series of articles is/does, for the time being, replace the regularly scheduled for this day slot ‘The Adventures of Princess Nadia – The Healing Light’. I do not know if I will start sharing my progress of this novel… I really am riding the fence on that decision. I am getting advice from both sides of the decision. Many are telling me that I could greatly increase traffic with sharing this novel. Conversely, I am told that by releasing the progress, excerpts, and sharing plot developments and character changes and growth, I jeopardize the commercial viability of (what could… will likely be) my greatest written work to date. ‘The Adventures of Princess Nadia’ truly is the greatest thing I have ever written. I have spent, literally, years of thought on its; plot line(s), characters, character development, technology, and story.

.

Having said, to release too much of my work surely jeopardize the eventual success of any and all of the novels I intend to write for Princess Nadia. Therefore, I am seriously considering making Wednesday(s) into something different. For the time being, this something different is/will be… … … The Deep Web!

.

The Deep Web is the other part of the internet (world wide web) that most of you, My Dear Readers, have never (and will likely never need to) access The Deep Web. Now, you may well ask “How do you know if I have, or haven’t, used The Deep Web?” Good question answered quite easily. Have you installed ‘Tor’ on you computer? If you answered “No” then I am correct that you have never accessed The Deep Web. Conversely, if you answered either “Yes” or “Not Tor, but another Deep Web Browser” then I was incorrect in my statement.

.

Translation; My Dear Readers you cannot access The Deep Web via; Google or any search engine NOR can you access The Deep Web using; Internet Explorer, Firefox, Mozilla, Chrome or any normal browser. Tor is downloaded, roughly, 800,000 times DAILY! Once installed, Tor will give you access to 6,500 hidden web sites. The world wide, that you and I use daily… i.e. Facebook, Google, Skype, ect… is roughly 19 terabytes. Conversely, The Deep Web is 7,500 terabytes, or 7.5 petabytes. Nineteen compared to seven thousand five hundred! Everywhere you have ever been, on your computer or tablet or cell phone, has been limited to the mere nineteen terabytes of information and The Deep Web, where most of you have never ventured, is nearly 400 times larger.

.

Now, I imagine that the very first question most of you, My Dear Readers, are asking is;

.

“If it is so much larger? Why have I never heard of this ‘other’ The Deep Web, before?”

.

This is where I have made one of the biggest mistakes in my career as a writer, especially a blog writer. Many of you, My Dear Readers, have heard about The Deep Web in just the past few weeks or months. It has appeared, front page, in Time magazine. They have done a piece on The Deep Web of ’60 Minutes’, recently. As well, if I am not very much mistaken? Even ‘Fox News’ has made mention of The Deep Web in just the past three months. MY hesitation in providing this information to you, My Dear Readers, may well have jeopardized the potential impact of my writing this article. On the other hand, today there is substantially more information available on The Deep Web for all of you to access. That means that if you, My Dear Readers, do decided to venture into this larger world? You will have the opportunity to be far better prepared for that adventure, than you could have been even last October.

.

Back to the question above; “Why have I not heard of The Deep Web, before?”

.

Reason; The Deep Web is an underground community of sites that can provide; illegal drugs shipped to your door, guns and ammunition banned by U.S. laws, Identity thieves and identities for sale, illegal pornographic materials and even… assassins for hire. The Deep Web is the place for all internet criminal activity. Having said, the majority of you, My Dear Readers, have nor will have any use for The Deep Web.

.

As you can well imagine, the laymen going into The Deep Web is a target for all manner of; thieves, charlatans, crooks and ‘Bad People’. If you do not properly prepare yourself, and your computer, for this adventure you will be taken advantage of and likely will have you identity (and other personal information) stolen. Like ‘the other side of the tracks’ in real life, The Deep Web s is not a place to go to just look around or window shop.

.

The Deep Web was, until very recently, the home of ‘The Silk Road’. Like the namesake on the Asian continent, The Silk Road on The Deep Web was a marketplace for all manner of illegal and illicit materials and services. The Silk Road was busted in the later part of 2013. There are those, that once were a part of or worked The Silk Road, that have every intention of “Rebuilding the Silk Road”.

.

In order to surf The Deep Web you will need to prepare. First, you will need a Deep Web Browser. As I mentioned above Tor is the most widely used and easily found and installed Deep Web Browser. There are others and they can be found by searching the normal internet for “Deep Web Browser”. Second, in order to purchase anything on The Deep Web you will need to exchange your money into Bitcoins. Bitcoins are the only currency that is accepted for illegal or illicit goods and services on The Deep Web. .

.

There is a huge downside to even this simple exchange. More than one ‘Bitcoin Bank’ has been bankrupt in just the last year.

.

“After the collapse of Mt. Gox, now Canada-based virtual currency exchange Flexcoin has been forced to close down.

Flexcoin said flaws in its software code enabled hackers to make off with bitcoins worth around 440,000 euros.

“As Flexcoin does not have the resources, assets, or otherwise to come back from this loss, we are closing our doors immediately,” it said in a statement.

A message posted on its website explained that the attack had exploited a flaw in its code on transfers between users and involved inundating the system with simultaneous requests to move coins between accounts.” [1]

.

Ironically hackers, and others engaged in illegal and illicit activities, solely use ‘Bitcoin’ and it was hackers that caused the failure of these Bitcoin Banks. As I was told when I was a young boy, by my paternal father (a manufacturer of bootleg booze during prohibition) “There is NO honor among thieves”. That statement is as true in the twenty-first century, as it was in the twentieth. Therefore, one should exercise extreme caution when exchanging dollars (or Euros) into Bitcoin. One should only exchange exactly the amount you will need for the single transaction you intend. Nothing more, period.

.

OK, My Dear Readers, I am experiencing a great deal of difficulty writing this article. When I started, over three hours ago, I was ‘ok’ and my hands were working satisfactory. Since then I have switched over to my program and am speaking, to write this article. However, now my pain and other neurological difficulties are making even that process… extremely difficult. Therefore, (hopefully) before these difficulties manifest in tone or structure I am going to bring this, Part One to an end. That is correct, this is only Part One of The Deep Web here at The Other Shoe.

.

For the next several weeks, every Wednesday I will continue to bring you more and more information on/about The Deep Web. I will do my level best to take you, My Dear Readers, through all the precautions that I would take prior to surfing The Deep Web. Further, I will do my best to give you an idea of; what to expect, how to act/speak and where to go. Again, I am in no way shape or form advising anyone to ever go to The Deep Web. However, I understand human nature and mankind’s insatiable curiosity for all things unknown and taboo. That is why I will do my best to prepare you for an adventure into The Deep Web.

.

.

In closing, I wish to be perfectly clear to everyone: just because I know… things… about The Deep Web? That does not mean, it does not stand, that I have ever or will ever visit The Deep Web. I have never engaged in any illegal or illicit activities, now or in the future, on or in or about The Deep Web. I have no criminal record of any kind from any time. I haven’t even had as much as a speeding ticket in more than THRITY YEARS! I beseech you, My Dear Readers, to not allow my writing this article to effect/change your opinion of me in any way shape or form. That would just crush me… honest. As Allen (who has lived with me, and knows me best in this world) my partner of twenty-six years often says of me ‘Danny is the ‘Last Boy Scout’”. I follow the rules regardless. More times than I can count I have played by the rules even though doing so has cost me opportunity, money, and even my health. In everything I do I ask myself “What would my father think of me, if he found out?”

.

As always I am deeply honored that you come here and read my work.

.

Thank YOU!

March 10th Personal/Medical Update and Blog Status

.

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. This morning I awoke to the sound of my own coughing. This time it is much deeper, and the raspy quality is replaced with a rattling sound. Deep in my chest something is rattling like dried bones in a bag, and I am… well, kind of scared. For a moment, let me look on the bright side of things. Last week, for the very first time since my first bout with this respiratory infection, I managed to publish ten articles in seven days. My Dear Readers I want you to know, to completely understand, what you and your readership here at The Other Shoe  means to me.

.

My Dear Readers just prior to the first onset of my respiratory infection? The traffic at just the primary location of my blog was peaking at about 150 visitors per week. That is an average of twenty visitors per day, but some days (of course) saw more traffic. I understand… I accept the reality of blogging. I understand the fickle nature of traffic and the genuine need of people for new content. Whereas I do not mean to judge, really I am the same way. I am a ‘news junkie’ and I read three to four different source for news every single day. Not six months ago I would watch MSNBC non-stop from 7AM until 7PM six days a week.

.

I have broken my news addiction, and with it my (rather mellow) political partisanship. My Dear Readers until my doctors find out just exactly what is wrong with me. Why I cannot throw this respiratory infection, why I have low-grade fevers nightly or the chronic fatigue I experience. Until that time my ability to regularly provide the requisite level of content is greatly hampered. I met, and exceeded, my goal for content this past week. Yet, in the process I have caused my infection to return and started the cycle of illness yet again.

.

First, My Dear Readers I cannot put into words the excitement I felt writing Part One of ‘The Horror in Smithville’!  I just love a well-written and suspenseful horror story. Let me be crystal clear, I do not include works like the ‘Twilight’ series. From what I read, of these books, they were a mix between sugary sweet horror and soft-core teenage porn. My very first exposure to the genre, horror, was one common and familiar to my generation. ‘The Twilight Zone’, ‘The Outer Limits’ and (later) ‘Night Gallery’ were my introduction to the genre(s) of horror and suspense and science fiction. Written by; Rod Serling, Ray Bradbury, Gene Roddenberry, and even Isaac Asimov these works were literary gold and my first and most impressionable impressions of these genres. That and… a little known (and I have looked and could not find these books) series of books by Playboy. They were sold together and each book was devoted to one genre. I found them at a garage sale, when I was about 8. You cannot imagine the fast-talking, wheeling, and dealing I had to engage in order to get my mother’s permission to purchase the boxed set.

.

After these golden nuggets of horror and science fiction, both genres floundered for many years. George Lucas rejuvenated science fiction with ‘Star Wars’, while the horror genre was brought back to life by Stephen King’s brilliant abilities. Stephen King defined the horror genre for decades to come, and (believe it or not) caused me great hesitation writing and publishing in his genre. Last week I put my fears aside, embraced my nightmares and put pen to paper for my very first venture into the horror genre. I tread gently, into Mr. King’s territory, and have made the conscious decision to write for young adults, first.

.

Come to think of it, ‘The Horror in Smithville’ and ‘The Adventures of Princess Nadia’ are both written for the young adult – pre-teen audience. I do this, intentionally, for two reasons. The first of which is the most important. I do not feel as though there is enough well written and thoughtful science fiction and horror for young adults and pre-teens. I see a real need for more quality writing in both of these genres. Second, My Dear Readers I will be the very first to admit I need more experience… more education under my belt before I wade into the same waters occupied by greats like Stephen King.

.

I would like to think that someday I might be able to create imagery, bring to life endearing characters, share memorable settings, and spin tales that weave all these elements together into a work of art. I know my ultimate goal, I can feel my limitations and I see the path clearly in front of me. Then there is my physical condition, my degenerative disease state and the unknown disease/condition that plagues me, today. All too familiar, am I , with how quickly I burn through my stamina. That is just what happened last week, rather over the weekend and today as a direct result of my workload last week.

.

My Dear Readers I longed to present you all with a full week of content. My desire to reestablish the traffic I had worked my fingers to the bone to achieve. You see, I do not fear the work… the workload. Honestly, I do not fear the pain that comes as a direct result of working (sitting behind a keyboard every day for hours at a time). I do not fear the resulting illness or pain and suffering. I do not fear most likely due to the fact of this reality for now, going on, the better part of a decade. It is the resulting pain, suffering, fevers, and (most of all) the raspy to bone rattling sounds in my lungs.  It is not fear that stops me, it is the disabling; pain, popping and snapping in my  neck, the fevers, the flu-like aches and pains, the shooting pains into my hands, fingers, arms, shoulders, neck face and chest.

.

This morning, as I awoke to a fever rattling in my lungs and numbness in my left arm and hand, I turned my head to look at the clock and a tooth grating and deafening pop/snap in my neck echoes in my ears. All I wanted to do was to get up, take my medications, read some news, start up my computer, get behind the keyboard, and weave tales for you, My Dear Readers, to enjoy. It was not meant to be.

.

It is now 5:30PM and I am just now finishing up writing this update/communiqué to you, My Dear Readers. I did not want to just leave you all (after ten articles in seven days) with silence from me. However, I am an thinking clearly and even my most simple and rudimentary writing skills escape me. I pus too hard, and for too long, and then I am incapable to get back up get behind the keyboard and spin the tales I so love to tell.

.

I apologize for pushing so hard that it has damaged my health and find myself quite incapable of completing the work. MY Dear readers it is my intention and desire to present to you, as this week progresses; Part Two of ‘The Horror in Smithville’, a new edition of ‘The Mars Report’, an update on ‘Bridgegate’ in New Jersey and more and more engaging articles and stories. For the rest of today, I will rest. Tomorrow I will work to get my much needed appointments confirmed and scheduled. Just as soon as I am able, I plan of working as hard as I can to write and publish the works outlined above. Regardless of pain. Regardless of fevers. Regardless of aches and raspy-rattling coughs. I promise to do my best to provide the content you, My Dear Readers, desire and that I have inside my head… just waiting to be put down into words.

.

Today, I wanted to share my dilemma, and hopefully engage your understanding. Yes, I also would like to illicit support and loyalty. However, I know that these must be earned. For four years I have worked to earn your support and loyalty. Oh, FYI this week I will publish the 390th article at my primary blog location. As well, in just twelve days we will be celebrating my Fourth Anniversary here at The Other Shoe! Hopefully that will coincide with the publication of my 400th article! By March 22nd, 2014 we WILL be celebrating 400 articles and FOUR YEARS here at The Other Shoe!

.

ENJOY!

.

As always I am deeply honored that you come here and read my work.

.

Thank YOU!

Sunday Funnies - March 9th, 2014

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. It is 9PM on Saturday March 8th, 2014. I have been sitting here and working on my blog… ‘A Week in Review’… an update article… adding a video to an already posted article… and corrections to ‘The Horror in Smithville” for the past FIVE HOURS! I am extremely tired and the pain in my neck is horrific. The only reason that I am writing this right now… not waiting until Sunday… If I can finish it today and get it posted and scheduled for publication? I can REST until Sunday afternoon!

.

That would mean about 18 hours before I have to sit up and work at my computer, again. That is worth me pressing on through tremendous pain and getting this written and posted.

.

Alex is always cute. It is not a matter of waiting until he does something cute, it is just a matter of me having my phone on and on camera when he does something cute. That happened in Friday and I had my phone on camera and I caught… THIS!

.

Without further adieu I give you ‘Sunday Funnies’ with Alexander R Hanning!

.

Thank YOU!

A Week in Review March 8th, 2014

.

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. This has been an exciting and eventful week, for me and this blog. First, this is the very first week, since my crippling upper respiratory infection, that I have met the goal of publishing five or more articles. I am quite proud to be producing content near the same level as prior to the infection and my extended absence. Whereas I am still experiencing fevers, nightly, and chills and aches. I am on the mend and I am hoping to return to full health, soon.

.

Further ‘Good News’ is that I finally ‘Pulled the Trigger’ on publishing horror. For the very first time, since I was a boy typing on a very old Smith/Corona typewriter, in my garage on Francis Street in Pearland Texas. I have written my first venture into the genre of horror. Now, My Dear Readers, do not expect something like those ‘Vampire’ movies with the glowy vampires and werewolves with washboard abs. My story is not that kind of horror. Honestly, I read some of those novels and they struck me more like middle school soft-core porn… than horror novels.

.

If I were forced to characterize my style of horror writing? I would characterize my style as a cross between Mark Twain and Stephen King. J You will find much more suspense and a lot less blood and gore. I have chosen a small town in middle America and two twelve year old young men as my lead characters. Again, I do this because I want to enter into young adult horror and young adult science fiction. I do not have plans for staying writing for young adults. As I refine my style and once I am published this will change and mature.

.

This has been a very good week for my writing and publication. I am far from having the same level of traffic as before my illness. Looking at the traffic reports, prior to my illness I was averaging about two dozen visitors each day! For me, and my little blogs, that was fantastic! I will be working just as hard as I can, as hard as my health will allow to work back up to that level, again. You, My Dear Readers, can help! You can ‘Share’ on social media. ‘Share’ links to my articles, ‘Share’ links to my blogs and ‘Like’ my articles and my blogs. I am using; Facebook, Tumblr, Reddit, Twitter and Pinintrest. ANY sharing of links to my blog and/or articles on these social media sites will greatly help the exposure of my blogs.

.

Finally, any assistance… of any kind is greatly appreciated. I apologize for this solicitation for assistance. One person has, from the kindness of his heart, reached out and gave me a hand up. You see, My Dear Readers, that is all I have ever asked for… that is all I will ever ask for is a hand… up. If I were able to work… If my doctors would release me… If there were not a strong probability of me sustaining grave and even life threatening injury via work… I would work! However, my doctors will not release me, and I am in no condition to work. One slip… one fall could… would likely result in either para/quadriplegia. NO ONE wants to end up getting sued if/when  fall. I understand, and I am not bitter or angry.

.

Therefore, I do my best to write and publish on my blogs. I hope and dreams are that I manage to write and post something that catches the eye of someone with connections in, or is themselves, publishing. I am realistic in that I have no dreams of ‘getting rich’ with what I do. I think and hope only to find a way to help my financial situation via writing. That and selling what little personal possessions I have left via eBay. As you can see at the end of every article I include a link to my eBay site for sale of said items. Any help… is greatly appreciated. For anyone that may want to help outside eBay? Message me via; Facebook (I have a Facebook Discover Card that  allows me to purchase food and anything @ Target), my blogs, or via eBay or my email (Enzomatrixlt@gmail.com)

.

Now, without further adieu ‘A Week in Review’ for the week ending March 8th, 2014!

.

  • ·        Trouble in the Ukraine – Part One : “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. For the past several months I have watched the people of the Ukraine battle elements of the corrupt government. From the pages of Time I have seen the street-by-street fighting in Kiev. To date, hundreds of ‘protesters’ have lost their lives at the hands of militant members of the now defunct government. I say “defunct government” because Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has been chased from the capital, ousted by the people.” This was/is my very first article explaining and sharing my opinion about the conflict in the Ukraine. I have included maps, insight and quotes from many sources. I do my best to keep objective and not to engage in partisan politics when writing about foreign affairs. I hold with the assertion of Senator Arthur A. Vandenberg. “In 1947, at the start of the Cold War, Vandenberg became chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Asserting that we must stop “partisan politics at the water's edge,"”[1] I see and listen to individuals seeking personal, social and political gain by parroting hyperbolic rhetoric about the problems in the Ukraine. I read and listen to these individuals take swipes at a sitting President over an international crisis, and in doing they do grave harm to international relations that they (OBVIOUSLY) do not understand. It sickens me.

  • ·        Trouble in the Ukraine – Part Two :  “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. As promised when the situation changed I told you I would update you, My Dear Readers. Russia has made a fatal mistake, in the Ukraine. As of Sunday morning Russian military troops have moved into the Crimea province of the Ukraine.” This the second edition in my series dealing with the crisis in the Ukraine. It is my informed and considered position that the people of the Ukraine should be allowed (if not encouraged) to pursue their desire of membership in the European Union.

  • ·        Trouble in the Ukraine – Part Three : “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. First a little personal update, this morning I woke up to a fever… again. It was 99.8 degrees when I woke up and 101.2 by noon. Last night I had the raspy… water-like sounds in my chest, again. I took all the antibiotics, just as prescribed, and this crud has returned anyway. I ache all over, fevers just drive me nuts, and the coughing is starting up.” At this point I am experiencing a relapse of my illness. My fever is back and rising, my raspy breathing and aches have returned. This, on top of the pain and suffering from my cervical condition… it, at times, just too much… especially with less and less food.

  • ·        Trouble in the Ukraine – Part Four : “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. As promised here is the most recent information on the Ukraine. In an obvious reaction to President Obama’s public statements that

“President Putin is on the wrong side of history”[1]

along with growing pressure from the international community and the majority of the G20 leaders, President Putin has blinked. The world is still awash in mixed messages, and in that regard President Putin is creating other (more personal) concerns… that I will address towards the end of this article. However, Tuesdya’s military actions is clear.” As anyone can clearly see… evidenced by the typo of Tuesday… and my not noticing nor correcting… to this point (my apologies) that my condition is/has worsened. I still hold with the opinion that the Crimea should NOT be allowed to separate from the greater Ukraine.

  • An Introduction to HORROR at The Other Shoe : “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. Today is Tuesday March 4th, 2014. As many of you are aware, two weeks ago I suffered, greatly, with high fevers, a painful and deep raspy cough, terrible aches, pains, and sleepless nights all due to a horrific upper respiratory infection. My doctor, once again proving what a great doctor and partner he is in the care of my health, prescribed a ten day course of antibiotics. I took all the medication, and at the end I honestly felt I had beat this infection.” Still in the grave grips of a vicious infection and battling fevers, I set about the task of making good on a promise. A promise I made to you, My Dear Readers, to write and share a work of horror here at The Other Shoe. I made good on this promise, and I intend to keep publishing every week more episodes.

  • Trouble in the Ukraine – Part Five : “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. Today, in Paris, leaders from the European Union, the United States, Russia and the Ukraine meet to tamp down mounting tensions and rhetoric. The European Union has prepared an aid package worth $15 billion dollars, to help replace funds looted from the Ukrainian treasury, shortly before the corrupt leaders were ousted.” With this article I bring this series to an end. It appears that the situation will resolve without massive intervention by America. As well, it has become clear that President Putin is doing grave harm to his standing in the international community.

  • The Horror in Smithville : “Timmy was grinning, from ear to ear, as he walked into the kitchen. Timmy was grinning because he knew he had the easy chore and Archer, on the other hand, was what left with a mighty big chore indeed. See, what Archer didn’t realize was that Timmy’s Mom, Margaret, looked on Archer as her second son. When Archer’s family had moved here they were living hand to mouth, week to week, paycheck to paycheck. Margaret was a good Christian woman and she went out of her way to help out Archer, and his family, every day and in every way she could. Honest to goodness in the past 12 years Archer had taken as many meals sitting at Timmy’s side, under her roof, as he had in his own home. Margaret loved cooking for Archer, and Archer was the most polite, and genuinely grateful, guest. Archer was given to multiple and exuberant compliments and thanks. Margie could just tell that Archer’s thanks and compliments were genuine and heartfelt. She was confident that Timmy just couldn’t have a better and more supportive friend than Archer.” Again, I would like to express (to you, My Dear Readers) my deep and heartfelt apology for publishing this article without taking the time to properly correct my mistakes. I used my ‘Speech-to-text’ software and it made far more mistakes that I thought. Today, Saturday, I went through the entire episode and I believe that I have found and corrected all my mistakes. My Dear Readers, this horror story is going to be GREAT! I have a lot of great ideas that I am going to work into this story. There will be a lot of character development, suspense, and thrilling moments. There will not be a lot of gore, blood or violence. I do hope that you Share, SHARE, SHARE! It is only via sharing that my traffic will increase and more people will gain introduction to my horror writing and my blogs. Thank YOU!

  • Horror Story and Status Update 3-8-2014:  “Unfortunately, my health has yet to return to me. I have fevers, nightly, and my stamina is far from what it once was or should be. I used my speech to text program to write this horror story. Having worked on this piece over three days, and over three hours on Thursday, once Part One was finished I faltered. Rather than proof read this story, I rushed to publish then too to rest. Since Thursday evening, shortly after publication of this story, my body was ravaged with aches and pains, my mind clouded with fevers.” Just as the title indicates this article is an update on the title ‘The Horror in Smithville’ and a little status update about me. I explain that I was not feeling well (as I am getting to right now) when I finished writing and published the horror story. That I made the grave mistake of publishingthis article at my blogs without properly correcting them first. Later today (Saturday 3-8-2014) I am going to ADD a video to this article.

.

My Dear Readers that brings this review of all my work, here at The Other Shoe, for this week to a close. Tomorrow, Sunday March 9th, 2014 I will publish a ‘Sunday Funnies’ with a nice little video of Alexander playing in a paper bag. I am quite dizzy, right now, and my fever is peaking. I will do my best to check for errors and publish this article.

.

As always, My Dear Readers, I am deeply honored that you come here and read my work.

.

Thank YOU!
