News from Around the World - August 13th, 2015

News from Around the World
(News from Around the World!)
Welcome back My Dear Shoevians toThe Other ShoeIt is great to be back here, today, with a handful of stories that you just might have missed during the past week.'News from Around the World' was on a bit of a 'hiatus', for the past month or so. Due, in part, to the fact I have been a bit overwhelmed since the start of myfourth blog location (And Current The Other Shoe - Primary Blog Location) If  you have yet to visit, I would suggest you check it out. Now, on with the show!
.
This week I havethree stories to tickle your curiosity, and 'keep you in the know'. Our first comes from across the Pacific, from the great nation of China. Thing of it is,My Dear Shoevians, I remember'back-in-the-day' when we just didn't hear 'bad news' out of our friends in China. A time when an incident, like this one, would have been scrubbed from the news by Chinese Officials. I am glad that we live in a time when we hear it all from China. However, today I have to share with you, MY Dear Shoeviansa terribletragedy that has befallen the Chinese people, and the people of the port city Tianjin.
.
.
"A massive explosion hit a "dangerous goods" warehouse in Tianjin, China, on Wednesday, killing at least 50 people and leaving emergency services staff trapped in the rubble. The explosion in the Binhai New Area on the city's coast happened at about 11.30pm local time, with videos posted on social media showed a towering inferno above one of China's largest urban areas.Reuters cited a statement by the city's government that 50 people were confirmed dead - including 12 firefighters - and as many as 700 injured, over 71 seriously. The Beijing News, an official outlet, reported that authorities had lost contact with 36 firefighters on the scene. As many as eight fire engines were destroyed by the blast. Nearby, firefighters wept as they worked to extinguish the flames, Beijing News reported".
.
My Dear Shoevianswhen I started my research into this terrible explosion, I was struck by just how many videos I found... from people like you and me. I have, therefore, decide to do something... new here at The Other Shoe. I am going to embed links to several of these videos of this explosion in Tianjin, China. Please understand, I do this out of a search for news that you can use. This was a horrific explosion that left 3,000+ people injured and dozens of families without loved ones. Bear that in mind while viewing this videos.

Perseid meteor shower video: Watch Nasa video of fireball over New Mexico - News - The Independent

"Video observed by the NASA All Sky Fireball Network shows the Perseid fireball over the skies of New Mexico on the morning of August 12. August 12 and 13 were the two days when the Perseid shower was set to peak, with a huge array of meteors visible. The meteor shower was not just visible in the US but across the world, including the UK, with stargazers in the Midlands and the North having the best view of the meteors as cloud cover meant visibility was limited across southern England and Scotland. The Perseids this year coincided with a new moon - for the first time since 2007 - creating the ideal dark sky conditions."

I stumbled across this little gem, My Dear Shoevians, whilst scouring the web for 'news' you might has missed. Though the showers are pretty much over, one can still see the stray meteor shower up until August 24th, 2015. These meteors are remnants of the Swift-Tuttle Comet that earth passes through every year.

Wrapping things up nicely, in a bow, is the video from this year's observations by our friends at NASA. I'll catch you, My Dear Shoevians, on the other side.

Isis bombing leaves scores dead at market in Baghdad

.

Iraq Bombing Iraq Bombing
(ISIS Bombs Market in Shia Neighborhood of Baghdad)
.
“The Islamic State terror group has claimed responsibility for a bomb blast that killed at least 80 people in a Shia neighbourhood of Baghdad in the deadliest attack in the Iraqi capital this year. The bomb was placed in a refrigerated lorry and driven to the heart of a farmers’ market in Sadr City in the early hours of Thursday morning. A witness told the Guardian that the bomber had beckoned people to the truck by telling them he had cheap tomatoes to sell.Hospitals in Baghdad said at least 200 people had been injured in the blast. The marketplace in the Jamila district of Sadr City – an impoverished quarter of north-eastern Baghdad – had been bustling with buyers ahead of the weekend.A website post purported to be by Isis said the attack had killed “charlatans” in the Shia community and members of the Iraqi security forces.”

While the market was at the height of business, reportedly, elements of ISIS (the Islamic State Terror Group) drove a bomb, disguised as a truck full of produce, into the middle of the market. Exploding the truck killing 80 and injuring at least 200 people. This is just the latest, of an ever increasing, number of attacks on the Shias by the Sunni radical extremists. . A young, 18 year old, witness of the bombing explained it like this; .
““The explosion happened in the morning around 8.30am inside Jamila market. It was a big lorry full of tomatoes and the driver was shouting in the middle of the market that he had very cheap [produce]. So people came close to him and then he blew himself up.”
.
We cannot hope for the violence to end, so long as ISIS, and other Sunni extremist groups, continue to operate inside Iraq and Baghdad. While ‘American Involvement’ is not really a viable option, more must be done to bring an end to this Muslim-Upon-Muslim’ violence in Iraq and throughout the Middle East. This cannot be done with weapons, this must be done on-the-ground by humanitarian forces dedicated to bring peace between Sunni and Shia. . That brings us to the very end of this week’s edition of ‘News from Around the World’. I hope that all of you, My Dear Shoevians, have gained a little insight into the larger world around us. I know, all too often, we become focused on what is just happening right here in the U.S. I hope that I can bring some news and information that will broaden your horizons and give you food for thought and conversation. Thanks for dropping by…
