Other Shoe - Update
As per my agreement with you, dear reader, here is an update for ‘The Other Shoe’ and me, Danny. The Other Shoe WILL continue ‘The Story of Daniel’. I know there has been some speculation that the series would not continue, and my absence has helped fuel that speculation. Regardless, I will continue my story soon. The period, we are entering, in this story is difficult for me to write. For a lot of reasons, not the least of which is my scrambled memory.

Next is an update on my condition. I just visited my primary care/Internal Medicine physician on Tuesday. The progression of my disease continues. Most notable; I am having difficulty swallowing… anything. I noticed the problem, first, with meat. Then it surfaced with problems with bread and French fries. Now, I have difficulty (sometimes) with water. I also explained the difficulties that I have recently encountered writing/typing, the loss of strength in (now) my right leg, the obvious loss of muscle mass in my left leg, and my generally rising frustration level with my disease.
Dr. Gorlick found this news most disconcerting, and wanted me to seek another neuro doctor. I nipped that puppy in the bud, by reminding him of my last visit to a neurologist and neurosurgeon. (You can read about that in; ‘all About Danny…’ and ‘Daniel’s Disability and How it All Began’ (yes, I know it is a rather longish title…) but the Reader’s Digest Condensedversion is:
“Your condition will get progressively worse, that is the nature of your disease. You experience more neurological and physical losses… your condition are not conducive with life…”
Don’t know about you, but that seems pretty darn clear to me. The best part is the last part;
“What do you want me to tell you, Mr. Hanning? There is nothing I can do for you, your problem is inoperable. Well, no responsible surgeon would operate. Once that disc cuts off the spinal cord… well, that is not conducive with life.”
And, with that, all hope dies.

Once ,my doctor had listened and understood, he took notes on the losses I had encountered since last I saw him. He also found out that I was getting the power chair in October, and we talked about ‘The Story of Daniel’. Which, he didn’t think was the best use of my time and skills.
‘Did you have an exciting life? People want something exciting to read.”
Food for thought. So, the visit was depressing and I went home with my prescriptions and the depression that accompanies most of these visits, for me. There really is no reason to see another neruo until things get much worse, or my condition takes a turn for the worse… or I fall. Horse feathers, if I fall “All the kings horses and all the kings men…”won’t be able to put Danny back together, again.

Next, and last I am getting tired, ‘The Other Shoe’. As I said, The Story of Daniel will continue, in time. Until then, I am going to share; pictures and smaller stories of me as a child, ‘The Mars Report’, and a NEW feature that will start this weekend, rather on Friday. Not going to tell you, what it is, you will just have to wait. However, there is a clue here:
“I have decided. For as long as I am able. For as long as I can get to a keyboard and the internet, I will continue to write, for you. I will do my best to; entertain and share my life. I will do what I can to take you to other places, see other things. I will share my hopes and dreams, but I will also share my pain.”
The answer to ‘What is next, for The Other Shoe’ resides in that sentence. The same one that I mentioned at the beginning of this article. Last, I am getting some serious flack for not writing anything political for some time.
- Get over it
- There IS a reason
- Get over it
The reason? I am TRYING to raise money, here! I can’t very well publish my opinions on politics and take the chance of offending someone who might contribute to one of my campaigns. I can’t afford to be political right now. I have cut back considerably on Facebook and you just won’t see it at ‘The Other Shoe’ until both campaigns are over. But, yes I have a huge amount of work, political work, to write at the end of October. So, hold on tight just as soon as these campaigns are over I am going to flood the blogosphere with my political opinions… and I have a LOT of those.
Now, we come to the end of this article. I am going to do my best, to fulfill my side of this contract. I just hope, and pray, that….
Daniel
Thank you for all your generoisty and kindness.
